CJ has some new solo tracks on his Myspace in case anyone cares.

Bartender 04-26-2006 03:53 AM

As always, I can't get that damnable myspace to play anything. It's good to know he's working on something, though.
Wildhearts Update]Quite a bit of news from Ginger to report following the successful completion of the UK tour. Ginger has been in the studio from July 17th recording his new solo album (not to be confused with the next Ginger and the Sonic Circus album).

Says Ginger: "The album I'm recording is my new solo album. I don't want to reveal the title yet, just in case I change my mind. It will feature new drummer Denzel Pearson on drums, and Jon Poole (who else?) on Bass. Jase Edwards will be involved in production / engineering / recording as well as playing guitar. Tim Smith will be producing. Watch this space for more details on this, and the forthcoming Howling Willie Cunt album, 'World Of Filth'."

Ginger and the Sonic Circus hope to record a separate album this year, and Ginger has also mentioned the possibility of the Wildhearts starting work on a new record before the year is out.

:D.

Jom 07-24-2006 05:00 PM

Hooray!

Ginger's space is http://www.myspace.com/silverginger

Bartender 07-24-2006 08:05 PM

Awesome.

hmm.

Bartender 08-25-2006 09:57 AM

I'd no idea that was being released. Does anyone have it?

Bartender 09-21-2006 07:38 AM

Awesome, thanks for pointing me towards that. Sorry for the delayed response, computer was temporarily packed away.

Anyway, I'm excited.

Lucky bastard Japanese.

EDIT: The Yeah Yeah Yeah single's good. The b-side is a (non-Ginger) cover of Caffeine Bomb, more like the version at the end of Grievous Acoustic Behaviour than the actual one.

munky_magik 01-01-2007 06:21 PM
Ginger's new album Yoni is set for release in the new year on Jan 22nd.

The full tracklist is:

1. Black Windows
2. When She Comes
3. Holiday
4. This Bed Is On Fire
5. Smile In Denial
6. Jake
7. The Night I Was Born Again
8. Why Can't You Be Normal All The Time
9. Can't Drink You Pretty
10. Save Me
11. Wendy You're Killing Me
12. Siberian Angel
Yay.

Geordie... isn't as good as I'd hoped. I like the sing-along for Geordie, though.

Bartender 01-22-2007 04:52 PM

It's really, really good. Probably not a surprise coming from me, but I actually wasn't so sure it'd be all that great for various reasons. But it's really, thoroughly awesome, I think.

Tim Smith is all over it. I don't think there's anything quite as weird as a lot of Cardiacs stuff, and I don't know if you're a fan of Cardiacs, but his influence is all over the place, in a few of the better melodies as well as some of the general sound. There's huge variety in instrumentation; all the usual stuff, and then some piano and different types of percussion (steel drums, for example), but then there's harpsichord, mellotron, strings, synths, trumpet, sax, tubular bells, extra vocalists, etc (a lot of them played or arranged by Tim Smith). Not all on every track (thankfully), but at various points. For recurring musicians; well, Ginger's Ginger, and Smith's just plain talented at pretty much everything he does, but the drummer guy's about as good as he seemed to be on the unmastered "Black Windows", and Jon Poole gets several opportunities for some great bass, too.

I won't say anything particular about any track for now, as I think you really want to be discovering them all yourself (that is, if someone had spoiled several of my first listens of songs here, I'd be attempting to kick them in the throat right now). So just a couple of non-general notes. First, "Jake", despite being eight minutes long, with sentimental lyrics and strings all over it, still kicks ass and is loud. And, "Black Windows" may be the worst (least good) song here.

Now to muddle my way through www.hmv.co.jp to get their version.

munky_magik 02-21-2007 08:39 PM

Yoni is awesome, agreed? Wonderfully poppy but I hope he he doesn't bring too much of it to the new Wildhearts record.
I should hopefully see the Wildhearts on the 4th and 8th in Glasgow and Manchester, respectively, assuming that my exam timetable doesn't mess that up. Hopefully they'll play the Carling festival as well so that I have a reason to go this year :)

Bartender 02-21-2007 08:54 PM

I've no idea which I'll be going to. All the ones I have a chance of going to (Newcastle, Bradford, Glasgow - got a friend (one I introduced to the Wildhearts) at Edinburgh) seem to be inconveniently arranged. So I'm just going to have to wait and see.

Still liking _Yoni_ though, and it's got me looking forward to a hopefully less light Wildhearts album now.

munky_magik 04-15-2007 06:31 PM

Tickets to see The Wildhearts on May 4th. New album on April 23rd. Life is good :)

New single The Sweetest Song is out now, though this is a download only version. I think I shall try and get it now.

EDIT: I have the song. Opinion/YSI pending.

EDIT *2: http://download.yousendit.com/1C3784AE75F3A200 For those that want it.

Uh, It has heavy bits and poppy bits as promised. It just doesn't strike me as classic Wildhearts though. A good song and the poppy bits are catchy as fuck and even though this song isn't supposed to feature on the album, it sort of strikes fear into me :(

EDIT *3: It's kinda growing on me. Curses. This chorus is really catchy.

Bartender 04-21-2007 09:37 AM

I like it, yeah, the contrast between the verses and the chorus. I'm interested to see how different this version is from the album version.

I already have the album, but not in my hands and so haven't been able to listen to it yet. I pre-ordered it a while ago, and it arrived sometime earlier this week, but unfortunately it did so back in Newcastle. So I'm waiting for it to be posted down here, should get here around the actual release date, annoyingly. Really looking forward to hearing it, though. The List reaction so far has been, as ever, ridiculously positive. Which is predictable, but still has me excited.

munky_magik 04-23-2007 07:24 AM

So getting this was pretty easy. I just walked into HMV and it was there. For Once.

First impressions are good, but I'll let you make up your own minds before I say anymore.

munky_magik 04-24-2007 02:07 PM

Oh, I see. First my football teams and now my music taste

I quite like it, though that was only to be expected. In saying that it's not vintage Wildhearts and it still has alot of Must be destroyed in it.

What don't you like about it?

Bartender 04-24-2007 04:46 PM

I need more time with it before I know what I think. My main impression at the moment is just how cool it is to have heard Dr. Phibes mentioned.

munky_magik 05-04-2007 07:55 AM

Wildhearts tonight. Oh my oh my oh my.

munky_magik 05-05-2007 04:29 AM

An awesome night was had by all.

Support:
G.U. Medicine - From what I could make out were a sort of rock/stoner rock type deal and sounded alright. Their mix was awful though so I couldn't really make out much. Other than they were loud.

Sign - Um. Bad. Frontman sounded/looked like a pre-pubescent girl and was irritating to say the least, as well as having some of the worst guitar solos ever. Though to be fair, they were entertainingly bad and a Youth Gone Wild cover earned them a few points.

Show:
Setlist as best I can remember it:
Vanilla Radio
Caffeine Bomb
TV Tan
Someone That Won't Let Me Go
Nexus Icon
The Revolution Will Be Televised
Top of the World
Everlone
Sick Of Drugs
Stormy in the North
The New Flesh
Suckerpunch
OCD
Head****
-----------------------------
Rooting for the Bad Guy
I Wanna Go

They were so good. I was little apprehensive after hearing Geordie but they were spot on. Scott Sorry looked like he'd been in the band his entire life, the crowd was good, the sound was good, Ginger's banter was good and the band really looked to be enjoying themselves. Academy 2 is a tiny venue as well, which was cool. Even the new material sounded pretty awesome live.

Apparently there was a fight at some point, but I managed to miss it entirely, for a nice change. And t-shirts were only £10.00 each as well.

Was quite close to going to the after party but after looking at the queue we decided to go elsewhere.

I'm just happy to have seen them again :)

The only crap part of the gig was getting Id'd twice at the bar.

Pics for those that wish:
http://s203.photobucket.com/albums/aa164/Pissjoy/

They look alot further away than we were. I'd say we were in spitting distance, for an adequately qualified spitter.

Bartender 05-05-2007 08:38 AM

Good to know they were on form, though it sounds like a bit of a shame about the support. How'd the new stuff work out live?

I might still be seeing them on Monday, but unfortunately it's far from certain.

munky_magik 05-05-2007 08:57 AM

It went down pretty well, got a big response from the crowd. I think I would've preferred Bi-Polar or Slaughtered Authors instead of Revolution but then they would've had to cut out a few songs or so. The new stuff sounded pretty good though.

It's a bit of a weird setlist, really. Only one song from phuq and not as many from Earth vs as I would have liked. Even something from Endless would've been cool. At least OCD was there, which was awesome.

munky_magik 09-19-2007 11:54 AM

Don't suppose anyone else managed to catch Ginger & The Scorchers/CJ/God damn whores?

Bartender 09-19-2007 12:52 PM

Nope, I've been spectacularly bad at making it to shows at all recently. How was it?

munky_magik 09-19-2007 03:35 PM

It was really, really good. Surprisingly <_<
Tiny venue, only about 100 people there.
The whores were great, and Mr Poole is rather a funny man.
CJ's vocals were a bit off, surprisingly. Dunno if he was just having an off night or if he just isn't used to being the frontman but either way it kinda took the gloss away from the album.
I've never heard any of the Scorcher's stuff but it was really quite good. The de-dreaded Ginger looked like he'd been playing with them all his life and was just really happy.

It was just a really fun night, especially with CJ and the likes joining Ginger on stage toward the end of the night.

A3 on Friday, and then hopefully their acoustic after show afterwards :)

munky_magik 09-19-2007 03:44 PM

The very same.

munky_magik 09-19-2007 03:48 PM

They have a few, apparently. Though I'm not sure if I just enjoyed them so much because it was something Ginger related.

munky_magik 09-19-2007 04:19 PM

That would be the same White Lies that The Wildhearts covered then.
I think they sound better with Ginger.

Bartender 09-19-2007 05:04 PM

One of the Endless Nameless singles, I believe.

The only thing I know that's even kind of by them, I think, is "One Less Heartache", from one of Jason's solo albums, which has the Wildhearts playing on it. I've got a few sound files hidden somewhere of a live performance of it and a bit of banter between Ginger and (the ridiculously southern) Jason, too. But I don't know anything else.

munky_magik 12-07-2007 09:41 PM

So Ginger's new single has something old, something new and something special. Should be interesting...If anyone can actually get hold of it before the new year.

Gonna see The Wildhearts on the 19th Dec, anyway. Should be good judging by their last performance :)

Bartender 12-11-2007 09:43 AM

Mine's pre-ordered, yeah, but lord knows when it will get to me. Apologies in advance for breaking the page, but since we can't mask links any more;

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Market-Harbour-Ginger/dp/B0010YO8AS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1197387623&sr=8-2

A bit out of the blue, for me at least. Amazon says late January, but I've heard people talking about it being out for Christmas (though again, no idea where they've got that from).

munky_magik 05-05-2009 06:39 AM

Small chance, but anyone else manage to catch the recent solo tour?

Laika Dog decent suport.
Ginger great show, Valor stuff sounded great live and a nice airing for SG5 stuff.

munky_magik 05-06-2009 06:36 AM

Sylvia?

Dimmu Burger 05-06-2009 07:50 AM

Ginger?
