I'm looking to buy a new throne, in the $100-$150ish range.. A few friends of mine recommended that I get the Pearl Roadster throne (and i'll make them let me go to their houses to try it out hehe). Is this a good choice? Also, I see that they make a short Roadster, and i'm pretty short (I'm 5'3) so would this be a good idea?

thanks for helping a noob out :p
God, I still have this old stool for a throne.. I really, REALLY want to get a nice RnS, but I also need to pay off the DWs.

That's my quite unpleasant 'throne' =/
At a first glance I thought that was a zimmer frame.

I really want a new throne but its nowhere near the top of my priority list.

Jezen 05-20-2005 04:23 PM

I personally don't see high tech thrones being important, unless you play on a massive kit, on a gig that lasts all day. Then maybe I would invest in a backrest.

NICE Gibraltar "Prism" series throne. Gibraltar actually makes Roc'n'Soc, and these thrones are basically the round versions of the R'n'S. The don't come with backrests, but it's my favorite throne for under $100 (it was a STEAL at $75 brand new.) Wonderfully comfortable throne, very comfortable (sporting like six inches of padding.)

whatthedeath?!? 05-20-2005 06:01 PM

I would REALLY like to see the rest of that set.

Judging from the lugs, its either DW or Pacific, but I'm thinking its Pacific. Either way, I would like to see it.

Well, I guess you wouldn't need a quality throne if you only played for 30 minutes to an hour a day. If your playing shows or on a kit for 20 hours plus a week I would suggest investing in a quality throne.

Fuzzydrummer plays DW. Pacifics lugs are oval rather than round.

o_zo 05-20-2005 06:13 PM

^^ It's a DW,NIIIIICE set. :thumb:
I still have this crap Westbury one I got with my first kit!

It's so horrible, the way you adjust the height is by putting a screw through one of the few terribly spaced out holes on the tube (which offer the worst heights you could ever want, very little choice too) and then having it rest out the sides of the tube to stop it from sliding all the way down. The design is so crappy, the top of the throne isn't even close to a snug fit, so it wobbles, the leather smells like grease, the leg brackets are weak as hell and to top it all off the cushyness is next to nothing.

I'm definately in the market for a new throne.
Same here, does yours make a horrible grinding/squeaking noise if you move the slightest bit? :upset:

I still want to see it. Yeah...but they ARE really similar.

Actually I do play alot, I think its just coz I only weigh 60kg. I have a decent enough Premier throne.

It's ssssssooooooo anoying but i think i will upgrade soon

Jezen 05-23-2005 05:49 AM

I used to use a powerbeat one. I got used to it. Just tighten up the nut like hell.

Shu 05-23-2005 06:25 AM

i got a crappy dixon one. the other day i tried to take of the seat part.. yes its stuck, needs abit of oil i guess :D

can u get those roc an soc ones witht he backrest in a round chair? i dont like the the bicycle ones too much.

SonorKen 05-23-2005 07:44 AM

Yea, the RnS's are available in the round seat bottom with the backrest

Jezen 05-23-2005 09:10 AM

Are they expensive?

Fuzzy 05-23-2005 03:51 PM

Depends on what model, the cheapest I've ever seen one is $120, and that was the plain motercycle-style with no backrest.

Phraun 06-02-2005 07:43 PM

I had a decent throne that came with my Pearl Export set. Been using it for four years, and today I was working through the rudiments with my feet when the throne snapped clean in half (me being a lightweight 250LB highschool linebacker and all :D ). Slammed the back of my head into the wall and it hurt like hell, so I'm plannin on buying the most burly bad-*** incredible hulk of a throne ever seen before to ensure it never happens again. Any suggestions? I was kinda lookin at the Nitro from Roc-N-Soc...

SonorKen 06-02-2005 08:41 PM

well, I have been playing extensively on the Roc-n-Soc and Pork Pie thrones alot recently. I will admit, the Pork Pie is better than the RnS in my opinion. The Pork Pie seems to breathe better than the RnS. I played a 5 hour show on my RnS a few nights ago and it sweat me to death. The back rest was really nice, I found myself all leaned back playin in the pocket.

The seat part of the Pork Pie is more comfortable as well. I like to tighten my throne down so the throne doesnt move. The RnS kept coming loose about every 5 minutes. All the pros go to the Pork Pie, the only thing I like about the RnS is the back rest.

poppinfresh 06-02-2005 08:59 PM

and are you sure that the pork pie doesnt stain. How much does your butt sweat ken?

Aaron 12-01-2005 05:19 AM

yes i know i'm bumping an older thread. but it keeps me from making a new one.. could you wonderful people suggest me a throne that'll properly support my back (as you know my back sucks) and that is nice and sturdy and sits on that soft/supporting line for cushioning; i dont want a bean bag and a dont want a pallet jacked up on bricks. lol, anyway. what you think seatmen?

Tim 12-01-2005 05:54 AM

christ dude major bumpage. try the roc-n-soc. i too have a bad back so i need soemthing soft to sit on. right now im using a pdp800 which was better than my old crappy throne with no cushion whatsoever. Ive sat on a PDP 900 and those things are basically just like the pork pie thrones but $20 cheaper.

Aaron 12-01-2005 06:14 AM

I haven't ever seen a roc-n-soc or porkpie in australia sadly. i was thinking the DW 9000 airlift one.. what you reckon?

Tim 12-01-2005 06:27 AM

Ive actually sat on the airlift a while back at GC. its ok it has about the same cushion as a pdp800 though. it basically just lifts easier and is a bit sturdier. if you can though try out that pdp 900 they are rather comfy. its about $100

playwithfire 12-01-2005 07:31 AM

...Aside from the cushion is like 14" or something like that. I find it to be very comfortable, firm, yet still soft and comfortable. It's about as sturdy as they come too, Air Life has 4 legs, regular 9100M has 3. I'm getting a 9100M, they cost $185 CND and tax.

Aaron 12-02-2005 04:05 AM

so i'm looking at about $400AU for a good seat.. woot! thanks for the advice guys. this thread may now slip into obscurity once again.. again... again....

slickrick1688 12-02-2005 09:44 AM

I need a new throne that can seat you pretty high, because my mapex one just doesnt get up high enough. Any suggestions?

Chris 12-02-2005 01:56 PM
I haven't ever seen a roc-n-soc or porkpie in australia sadly. i was thinking the DW 9000 airlift one.. what you reckon?
It is a was of money. You can not take the top (seat) off the stand once it has been put on.

And why would you want a airlift stool anyway? Surely you would rather have a stool where you can set the hight to a given setting.

Dookiedude3005 12-02-2005 02:09 PM

I was dbj'ed last week Pwned by my own throne

After all the christmas shopping is done i'm hooking myself up with a pork pie:thumb:

SonorKen 12-02-2005 02:29 PM

^^^^ Dam man, glad ya didn't get hurt on that. You'll love the Pork Pie, they are killer!
yes i know i'm bumping an older thread. but it keeps me from making a new one.. could you wonderful people suggest me a throne that'll properly support my back (as you know my back sucks) and that is nice and sturdy and sits on that soft/supporting line for cushioning; i dont want a bean bag and a dont want a pallet jacked up on bricks. lol, anyway. what you think seatmen?
Look at the Pork Pies, I have the Roc-n-Soc as well and the Pork Pie is MUCH better, alot more comfortable.

If I could sell my Roc-n-Soc and not lose a ton of money on it I would buy a 2nd Pork Pie.

playwithfire 12-02-2005 04:47 PM

crolfe1 12-02-2005 05:38 PM

The only thing that bothers me with the air-lift is that it is not easily portable. Its basically a one piece design (not to mention gas-shock issues after a year or two). I would have gotten one, it is VERY comfortable, but I found solace in knowing I can tear down the regular 9100 with no effort at all. The seat is plenty comfortable!

Grab a 9100 and try it out. WAY more comfortable than the 5100. Bargain a deal for $110 and call it yours! Then again the Pork Pie are VERY nice too. I didn't care for the RnS, the one I demo-ed could not be taken apart.

ComicalMischief 12-02-2005 06:36 PM

I heard something about new models of Pork Pies being not as comfortable as the older ones.
Any truth to that? All I know is that if I ever get one, I'll take it everywhere, as they are comfortable as...something really damn comfortable.

playwithfire 12-02-2005 06:36 PM

Man, you've become such a Big Dog whore. Oh well, you're barely worse than me with As .

But once again... DW 9100M is where it's at.
