I find the odd rap song that i like, but a lot of it just doesnt strike a chord with me.
However, i am a sucker for turntable artists. Thats where the majority of my hip hop attention goes to. |
Everyone should check out Madlib. Rap without rap. It's iunstrumental beats but they are very, very cool. I'll upload some when I get home.
|
I like Atmosphere and Non Propethes, The Roots are **** good as well.
I dig Trip-Hop much more though. Don't know if that is related at all, well Trip-Hop does have a founding in Rap/Hip-Hop. |
no problem :thumb:
for all of you intrested here's a song from The Roots.. it's off Illadeph Half Life.. probably their best album in my opinion... and this is a good song... http://s24.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3N4XF94KX37YW3MTSROEPHJE1S enjoy ;)
The roots are excellent in every way possible, i will second this one. I am also glad that rap is the featured genre this time, it does get a lot of negative hype because of the popular artists around right now (hmm, sounds like metal's problem too ;) ) But even in the whole mainstream of rap today, i would like to mention that outkast gets shunned a bit, even though its quality as well. However, you can't beat the classics like NWA and Public Enemy. Some rap, even if it is very cheezy and corny can be entertaining, like the Digital Underground and more notably their only really well known song The Humpty Dance, if i can find the cd that has a bunch of DU stuff burned to it i have lying around here, ill upload it. Although intellegent rap is always the best stuff, some of the other stuff can still be quite entertaining. |
Hyrogliphics are my faverouiter rap act, closely followed by Aesop Rock. Even though Lil John is Gangster Rap, i like him alot.
|
hell yeah, i consider lil jon to be like the death metal equivalent of rap. i mean after all there is double bass drum parts in put yo hood up
|
I've been meaning to give rap a chance this summer. My family isn't exactly the biggest fan of it. Mostly because they haven't heard anything to convince them it's any different from the MTV bull****.
I'll download a few of those tracks when I get back from lunch. |
Can you define the difference between Hip-Hop and Rap for me?
Hip-hop is 1) the subculture. 2) the style of rap music that is often progressive, but, has a very old school approach to the music itself.
who doesn't :p
I don't. Slug is terrible.
Hyrogliphics are my faverouiter rap act, closely followed by Aesop Rock. I didnt know Crunk existed.
|
So I can, just, like, you know, post some cool recommendations? I'll probably edit this post with some cool Aceyalone.

You sound alot like a rap version of Dargon.
|
I listen to a few rappers, mainly Tech N9ne and Mac Dre. What sets these rappers apart from the rappers you see on MTV are their lyrical skills.
Mac Dre has some of the best similies and metaphors you'll ever hear in rap. Mac Dre in my opinion is the greatest rapper of all time. He is the funniest, most intelligent, and most original. |
I think rap generally is crap. There's a few artists I like though (Eminem, The Streets, and MC Chris come to mind first), and the occasional song, but I think it's generally a load of sh.it.
|
I don't really like much rap aside from Coolio and Eminem, but I have sampled it and i agree that is takes a lot of skill and talent.
I don't think people should really belittle rap at all but the sad fact is that most rockers will just turn away from it and disregard it. That was why I was a fan of nu-metal with all those crossover albums and continue to enjoy Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit and other rap-flavoured rock bands. But anyway that's my opinion. |
You sound alot like a rap version of Dargon.
Who is Dargon? |
Doesnt matter.
|
I'm really not a fan. I don't like the rhythmic speaking thing of the vocals. That's not to say I don't like the occasional song but that tends to be despite the vocal style not because of it and I lean towards songs featuring more samples etc. rather than focusing on the vocals. I really don't like RATM either. I like the riffs, the background music but the vocal style annoys the hell out of me as do the lyrics for the most part.
|
The only rap i ever liked were The Beastie Boys.
And Bring The Noise by Public Enemy and Anthrax. Rap has a certain talent level to it...however, the commercialization of rap is what bastardized the genre. Now, you can't turn on any music channel on tv and not see a rapper surrounded by women. Old Rap = decent New Rap = crap (of course, there are exceptions...the majority is crap though) |
Hey, Thanks for the downloads. If you can find it, download Flipsyde. He is from San Fran and he is awesome. The song I found (I got it off itunes) is called someday and it has some like spanish guitar parts behind it. It is an awesome track.
I also like the beasties and Eminem. |
Someone was talking about what the death metal equivalent of rap is, and that would be an artist such as Necro. I can upload some later.
|
Up until this year, I hated rap, since all I ever heard was the stuff on the radio and MTV. There is alot of good rap out there though, you just have to find it.

 300th post
My favorite rap group is Tribe Called Quest. I think I've mentioned them in the community thread once or twice. They're jazz rap, so I think People on here might like them better than the other kinds of rap.

I like some rap.
Mostly stuff by Jay-Z, The Beastie Boys, Jurassic 5 and Run DMC. I don't know much about it but I do from time to time listen to it. I also like Pharell alot, but he's more of a producer from what I've been told. |

Everybody and their mother has heard "Changes".
Also, two of the verses in "Changes" are swiped from "I Wonder if Heaven Got a Ghetto". Felt like pointing that out. |
Heh, I think hit 'em up is one of his best songs, personally, so good choice with that.
I like quite a few rap songs, but there are not that many artists that I could enjoy a whole album of. My favourites are probably the Beastie boys, Eminem and Cypress Hill. Overall, you could say I like rap, sometimes the use of language gets annoying though. |
Heh, I think hit 'em up is one of his best songs
