Why are The Clash not mentioned or have I misread something?
|
for the stoner rock category:
Masters of reality Corrosion of conformity (more of a metal band really) the atomic bitchwax high on fire electric wizard |

Did you read this bit;
I won't include bands that would be discussed in other forums in the list.
?
Corrosion of conformity (more of a metal band really)
It depends what era CoC you're thinking of. Their earlier stuff (albums like Technocracy was a crossover kind of metal-punk mix, really abrasive stuff. Later albums (not including the new one, which I haven't heard and so can't say much about; albums like Wiseblood) have bene slightly stoner-ish rock/metal stuff. Electric Wizard don't see very Alt/Indie friendly :-/ |

I understand that Electric Wizard are not 'alt/indi' friendly' but they are **** good and if there are more people like me on this forum they might well enjoy them. |
Why are The Clash not mentioned or have I misread something?
1) Most of their stuff is punk, like Bartender said 2) Another reason is also why I don't need to put bands like Radiohead and Oasis in the list.
Seeing as m83 wasn't on the list i'm going to recommend them. :thumb:
Maybe you didn't look in the shoegazer/dream pop list:) |
I'm in the mood for some really happy-feeling dreamy indie pop similar to The Shins (Caring is Creepy/So Says I-ish to be exact). Any band/track suggestions?
|
N.W.A.- gansta rap
|
OK, my playlist of stuff now is starting to bore me ever-so-slightly so I need to find some new stuff in the same sort of mould. These are just a few of my very favourite artists:
Muse Led Zeppelin Radiohead Amplifier Hendrix Yes King Crimson Deep Purple Blur Black Sabbath To generalise, I like bands that can provide a good riff, good lyrics, that rock and have an element of progression within their music. Any suggestions? |
Maximo Park
The Subways Juliette and the licks Hot Hot Heat Mystery Jets I am Kloot Nine Black Alps Are all bands worth a check out. |

The Decemberists Broken Social Scene Death Cab For Cutie You've most likely heard of those already, though. |
Im going to have to say Joy Division, more people should be into them.
25 years Ian C. RIP |
this is an awesome thread. ive bookmarked it!
|
If you're still taking recommendations, then Autechre should be in electronica.
|
The folk section seems kind of lacking,
I know it seems obvious but Bob Dylan should really go in there, he's quite alt/indie friendly. Also Tim Buckley, he has some truely amazing songs. |
Keep 'em coming guys
|
Sun Kil Moon; amazing folk group. blending cross-pollinate folk, country, punk, and psychedelic influences.
|
fIREHOSE-Alt/Indie
Big Black-Post Hardcore |
Tom Waits - Indie Rock/Other
Captain Beefheart - Other The Mars Volta - Indie Rock Gorillaz - Hip-hop Beastie Boys - Rap/Hip-Hop I didn't see them anyway. |
Hope Of The States - Post rock
|
I thought they were britrock.. or they're someone else?
|
They're from England, but Modrock said they're post rock, so they are, I guess.
|
Mono (Japan)
Six Parts Seven Gastr Del Sol All post rock |
Mono (Japan)

Bah. Soul recommendations:
James Brown Curtis Mayfield Otis Redding Terry Callier Stevie Wonder |
Solomon Burke!
|
Art Brut. Amazing funnyband that actually has GREAT music.
New CD, bangbangrockandroll came out recently, and soon it will be in its own little thread. Check it out. |
I would recomend
Ugly Casanova, which is Isaac Brock, but more folky than Modest Mouse stuff, really great cd "they only have the one (sharpen your teeth)" and also Stellastarr, I'm not sure what genre they are, kind of new age rock, I guess, probably not indie, but still a really great CD "I think they also have just the one (self titled)" |
The Wrens
This is a great band that falls under the genre Alt/Indie Rock. They blend a bit rocky guitar play with emotional piano. They creates a happy yet "strong" sound . I don't know if this is true but I somewhere heard that they were banned from a club after playing a cover of the Pixies' Debaser :D. I recommend any songs from the album "The Meadowlands". Great thread, by the way. |
why the hell would you get banned for playing debaser?!!!
Cos playing covers of Pixies songs is a terrible idea, even good bands don't tell to pull it off. |

hey, Happymeal and you have got cool avatars! |
TV On The Radio did a good cover of Mr Grieves.
|
The Libertines(alternative/rock)
Hot Hot Heat<-not my favourite though Kaiser Chiefs(Alternative) Can anyone give me recommendations on some bands identical to Kaiser Chiefs Or anytin that has been labelled alternative or britpop... |
I'm pretty much hate the Kaiser Chiefs, not enough to not help though. Theres a band called 10,000 Things that sound very similar, most indie bands coming out of Leeds now sound a bit like them. Try The Sunshine Underground, Maximo Park and Special Needs maybe.
|
ok ill try dwnloading them, thanks though
oh yeah another band on the list,The Bravery.. |
I'm looking for post rock bands who have vocals, bands like Amplifier especially (not 65 days of static, I've looked into them)
|
Try Sigur Ros if you haven't already?
|
A Silver Mount Zion has vocals too. Jarry vocals, but vocals nonetheless.

Try Amusement Parks on Fire. A bit more alt than post-rock but they have some really nice melodic bits. |
