Nice group, sometimes pretty hard, often pretty chaotic/strange
you say it like its a bad thing |
soad are my favorite metal band! their self title was the best in my opinion every single song was loud and obnoctious! toxicity was pretty good but i thought steal this album sucked to me it didnt sound anything like them. darron is awesome at guitar but i think he should let serj do the lyrics and songwriting (byob had terrible lyrics and the singing sucked). Shavo sux i can barely ever hear him the only song that i could actually tell what he was playing was in sugar(best song ever) but the rif just goes 0-7-6-5 anybody could do that but overall theyre my 2nd fav band...
|
I just bought Steal This Album, and all I have to say is I wish I would've stole it.

That is the English date on Amazon so either: 1.Amazon is wrong 2.It is released at different times for UK and America |

Hate to break it to you, but turn that bass riff into one finger power chords and that's basically what the guitar does as well. |
I love this band. Haven't listened to them in a while, but when Mesmerize comes out, I'm sure I'll be listening to them a lot again.
Oh yeah, in case you didn't know, System of a Down will be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live, May 7th. .....................I think I'm going to change my avatar. |
I thought BYOB's chorus was terrible upon first listen. I still think that now. So I am really unsure about whether I will buy their new album or not... But then again, it is a single, and the single usually sucks.

I thought that at first but it kinda grew on me |

Thanks mate I usually wouldn't watch SNL unless there are some good musical guest. I think soad will come to jay leno and conan obrien's shows soon as well to promote their new stuff. :thumb: |

Darons opening scream and the chorus is what makes the song for me. |

Probably. I wish they would go on David Letterman. He's my favorite Late Night talk show, but I hate how usually never has musical guests. |

You used to capture and collect things, amirite? lol user title allusion++ Anyways..My thoughts on SoaD. They were the first band that I ever became addicted to. I still love them today, but I really beleive that they have one of the stupidest messages to deliver to their listeners. The idea of 'make the president fight the war' is so perposterous and idiotic. The only other artist I have heard say this was Eminem, and I really hate to classify SoaD under the same category as Eminem, but I am beginning to think that Daron is a bonafied moron for thinking and writing the way he does. However, I really am the kind of guy that focuses very little on lyrics, and more on the overall song. My favorite album is either S/T or Steal this Album. They are both more original than Toxicity, however, I like them all very much. The S/T is one of the rawest albums ever concieved. Every song is just in your face. Toxicity has some of my favorite tracks on it (Forest, Toxicity, Needles) but it lacks the consistency that the S/T has. Steal This Album is just a cool cd. I know it's a cd of left over songs, but I really think that some of their best songs are on that album. (Mr. Jack, Roullete, Streamline, and EgoBrain to name a few.) Overall, I'd say my favorite SoaD song is either Ego Brain or Forest. They are both very interesting, and they are some of their less political peices, which makes me like them more. :p |
Its not a neccesity, but I like Political views in music.
|
You know what, I just listened to BYOB's again, and it is really awesome.
What's even better, is that it is reminding me of System's first album. It is of course very different, but very alike in the craziness aroma of the s/t's sound. I'm definitely getting this one. And those weirded out screams are bringing back great memories. :D |
Darons opening scream and the chorus is what makes the song for me.
Really? I've always thought Daron was a terrible screamer..... :-/ To me, the scream is just shaky and retarded sounding. I think the song would be great if they just created a new chorus. |

He does have decent screaming and growling ability though. As far as the chorus of BYOB, it's there to make the point of the song more than it is to just be catchy or good(though it is somewhat regardless). It's just putting what they are talking about in a silly perspective, trying to capture an attitude. I don't think most SOAD fans really get what they are doing. |
System of a Down is the one nu-metal band I really, really like. My friend and I are going at 7 a.m. to get tickets for the show on Monday. Tickets on sale day-of-show only. B.Y.O.B. is a good song with a great message.
And, Lamb of God is playing with them at Ozzfest. Double-whammy. |

I've listened to SOAD since I was in like 6th grade, one of the first bands I liked. Their lyrics and riffs are catchy (Cigaro), man I love that song.
I obioulsly have to say that their best abum is the S/T, Sugar, Suite-Pee, Suggestions, Know, the whole cd is just amazing, its catchy and the political lyrics are quite interesting. Toxicity is also an exellent job done by this peculiar band, the songs are catchy (Chop Suey!, Prision Song, Areials, Toxicity, etc) and the lyrics impressive, but I like the S/T better than Toxicity. This is just because I like the songs in the S/T better. Finally, for steal this album all I have to say is that it was a step back from their first two productions. Although it has older material unrealesed before and it doesn't have much consitency and the songs are not as catchy as the other two, it has its good songs (Nüguns, Chick N' Stu, Bubbles and Mr. Jack). I'm really looking foward to the new ablum Mezmerized, from what I've heard (Cigaro and BYOB) I was utterly impressed, to me its like hearing something from their S/T, specially Cigaro. I just love it when it says "My cock is much better than yours, My cock can walk right through the door". And all the other stuff. Well thats my opinion on SOAD. |
WHAT???

I heard the new song today, it really didn't do anything for me, I don't think I'll be buying the new album.
|
No, they're not the mystery band. It turned out to be Mudvayne. I guess you'll have to wait for some other time to see them live, which will probably be this summer.
By the way, Lamb of God and Shadows Fall kick some major ass live! |
I'm going to pre-order the album now, at least I think.
|
^^^ Actually you're gonna get it alot cheaper in any record store if you buy it within the first two weeks after it comes out. IDK why they do this but they always do.
|
I've already pre-ordered the new album with the shirt. I can't wait till it comes in. I'm int he U.S. so I'll be waiting till the 17th.
|
I have pre - orderd it myself and Im hoping it will be good.
|
I would just buy it at Best Buy or some other store the first week it comes out, albums cost like $10 when they first come out there
|
$10? Wow, that's a good price. On Amazon, its a little less than $14 on the pre-order. Even though its a little more expensive on there, I'll order it anyway.
Chances are, I won't be able to get to a store to buy it fast, and will end up getting it quicker through pre-order. |
ive pre-ordered mine from the soad website. i heard the short clips of each song, nothing really impressive to me,, though ofcourse i know you cant judge a song on 30 seconds of it. i think it will turn out to be another fine release from them.
|
I like them, one of the few nu metal bands I like. I feel that they are much more creative and interesting then alot of bands of that genre.
|
Yeah. I really don't even like to consider them Nu-Metal. In my opinion, they are not. I think they are very talented, original, and I love the lyrics. I've never heard a band that sounds like them.
|
I just got back from the System of a Down show here in Austin..one word: WOW! It was an awesome performance! The drummer was great! Everything was great. I'm looking forward to their fall tour with TMV..should be great.
