Is this the guy with WAY to many strings? :p
Yeah, what's up with all those strings!

;)

Wintermute 04-24-2005 06:29 PM

Haha, welcome to the boards! :thumb:

Here's a question - is there a limit? Is there any point after which you would say there ARE too many strings?

Foxfire 04-24-2005 06:30 PM

Hey Jean. ;)

Just a quick question:
Any hope for getting another distributor for your stuff in the near future? I've yet to hear any Nuclear Rabbit.

:upset:

Radiobass81 04-24-2005 06:31 PM

I'm amazed.

It only took one post and two smileys for me to like the guy (as an MXer).

Useless post, but I have nothing to ask.

AlmightyPancake 04-24-2005 06:31 PM

"Jaco only needed four!"

Seriously though, your mastery of tapping and harmony absolutely leaves me speechless. At what point did you truly decide to take bass in that direction?

ridethelightning 04-24-2005 06:33 PM

hey jean! welcome to MX!

what got you into bass? where is the limit for amount of strings on a bass in your mind?

YDload 04-24-2005 06:39 PM

Who are your biggest influences, Jean?

(Yeah that's right, I snuck that question in first!)

eguitaranlead 04-24-2005 07:13 PM

hey jean my question is. how the "Joust" bass going, and can you put some pics up on mx here for us.

why set limits? :smash:

I'm fine with 11 for now. :naughty:

Sorry, I'm having fun with these new icons.

you know we had the whole new distributor thing rolling (it was the guys who handle buckethead's stuff) but we kinda stopped pursuing it once we lost our drummer. hopefully, we'll have something up soon. Our original distributor got bought out by a larger one and forget to include us with it.

there's should be mp3s up at www.nuclearrabbit.com (and a video too I think) and I put a couple of songs on that myspace thing.

eguitaranlead 04-24-2005 07:22 PM

jean just a heads up you need to put all the http and stuff in order for a link to work on mx.

AlmightyPancake 04-24-2005 07:24 PM

It's funny, because Irish used to use that for his icon, so I have to keep reminding myself that's it's JB instead.

eguitaranlead 04-24-2005 07:24 PM

this link should work http://www.nuclearrabbit.com/

when I started playing I was practicing 6 hours a day (more in the summer time) so I just went for it. I don't feel as if I made any decision in any direction - I just dig playing bass and wanted to get better. As far as mastering tapping or harmony - I have a long way to go, but thanks for the props.

PaulSimonon 04-24-2005 07:32 PM

I just was talking about you while playing PacMan today...
hey jean! welcome to MX!

what got you into bass? where is the limit for amount of strings on a bass in your mind?
I wanted to sing, but I sucked. my mom wouldn't let me have a drumset (too noise-y, too expensive) and my fingers were too big for guitar and I had/have a twisted ring finger so I couldn't make chords (at least on a tiny guitar neck). So I played bass. My first observation after my first day playing bass was "where are all the notes?" (you guys need a smiley with rocks being thrown at it - insert here). I soon fell in love with the bass and lived happily ever after. Then I added more strings and internet people scorned me. The End.

I'm okay w/ 11 for now.

BassVirtuoso 04-24-2005 07:40 PM

We were just wondering how old you were, since none of use could find it. And will you post some more or is this a one time thing?

By the way I'm the guy from Myspace who messages you.

tenorbass 04-24-2005 07:47 PM

Hey Jean, I really dig you stuff. i was wondering if you have a secret to tapping or bass. also how do you practice, right now i am using the metronome alot. also, why do have your basses made like old school games did you always like them or some thing i think they look great and it was a good idea. Also what are you doing now adays. So here is to you Jean :chug: . thanks for your time brother. keep up the great work.
Who are your biggest influences, Jean?

(Yeah that's right, I snuck that question in first!)
Honestly, I'm not much into bassists.

When I was starting out, I was trying to learn the other instruments on the bass instead of the bassline. Maybe there's something wrong with me.

Musicians/Composers I dig: Joe Pass, Pat Metheny, Art Tatum, Glen Gould, Keith Jarret, Miles Davis, Bernard Herrmann, Carl Stalling, Herbie Hancock, Hossam Ramzy, Shawn Lane, Venitian Snares, I can go on for days...

I think the only bassist that wows me is Michael Manring, not so much for the technical aspect, but the fact that you can really hear his heart through his instrument. Something to aspire to. But to be honest, I haven't really listened to too much solo bass / bassist albums so I'm probably clueless in that regard.

I haven't heard too much of your playing, but what I have heard is quite good.
I don't have a question right now, so... hello!

I'm ancient (33). I don't know where you guys got the idea I was 18. :naughty: I started Nuclear Rabbit in 1988.... my band is probably older than some of you. hahaha.

I'll try to post... but I try to keep my internet time to a minimum. If I spend more than 30 minutes online, my basses start looking at me longingly. :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: - I've already exceeded my limit.

Duncster 04-24-2005 08:26 PM

That 1up thing is quite possible the coollest thing I have ever heard.

And your playing is very inspiring :p

Zenergizer Bunny 04-24-2005 08:27 PM

I have to say it again...HOLY CRAP.

The inlay is really awesome...what am I saying? the whole freakin' thing is awesome!

bottlerocket 04-24-2005 08:32 PM

Wow, I can't believe it! Welcome, Mr. Baudin, welcome!

So how's it feel to be envied by bassists worldwide?

By the way, you seem like a really down to earth guy. Thanks a lot for taking time to stop by our humble abode.

glad you dig my stuff.

The only secret to tapping (which is no secret, really) is practice. The more you do it, the better you get at it. It takes me a minute (if that) to learn something akin to the linus & lucy song with 2 hands (melody + bass line), but that's only because I've done it a gazillion times. Please note: it takes me about 30 seconds to forget it too.

I don't practice any particular way. I just sit down and write stuff. If my cats are fighting each other, I'll write music to it. I don't pracite redundant stuff (scales, excercises, etc.) too much anymore though I'm not saying anyone shouldn't. I just leave the repetitive stuff for band practice... I get all my tempo practice when I'm playing with my drummer (and he's a metronome nut). And I write interesting enough basslines to keep me focused at rehearsal.

anyways, hope that helped. the real honest truth to getting good at anything is putting in the hard work. there's no shortcut.

The old school games is because that my other pastime. I have a collection of old arcade games (the big ones) in my garage and I still play my SNES, Vectrex, Atari VCS and all that. Though, lately I've been playing too much Yoshi Touch & Go on the DS.
