Same here :-/ Can you convert the wma to mp3? That usually fixes the license issue (To Dan) |
Sorry about the license thing.

First of all I want to say that I don't like this song, so I'll try to be fair and review it from an objective point of view. Also, I won't give a mark to the song so here it goes the review:
The song starts with drum and bass, very simple drums and a nice bass line, then 2 guitars enter one doing a kind of muted riff and the other with a catchy riff but there's no distortion in the guitars, so the song is very drum & bass based. Then the vocals enter, I don't like them but they sing well. So the song builds up and then it comes what could be a chorus with some nananananana as all the vocals in there. Again goes to the verse which consist in the same instruments that were at first and the 2 vocalist saying "girl I'm gonna **** you up" and later some other lyrics and a keyboard doing some stuff over everything. Again the quite faster chorus and then the guitars change a little doing little more complicated riffs to end the song with an outro where the guitars play some chord riffs and the vocals are the most important thing. Then the song suddenly stops. Captain Everything - Picture of You
Starts off with a drum beat, and then what sounds like an out of key rendition of "Take on me." Clearly a fun band. I can honestly say I like it when a song starts off horribly if the rest of the song is good because it's clearly just for fun, and not a statement of their talent. It isn't for everyone though. Now it's into the song proper, pretty typical upbeat pop punk. The transition into this was pretty smooth too. Lyrics are kinda typical guy to girl songs (not breakup). Pretty much two riffs throughout the song, verses and choruses, so not a ton of variety, but for what is pretty formulaic, it certainly isn't boring. It has energy and the harmonies are good. A vocals over Bass section builds back into the song again. Nothing new or innovative here, but not boring despite that. The outro is someone puking, kinda gross but meh. 7/10 Twat: THis thread isn't about reading reviews as much as it is about finding new bands by being "forced" to listen to them. If you want a song review site go to Sputnik. P.S. I'm doing mostly stuff in the punk area for recommendations, but I can do other stuff too if people are interested in branching out. 88 Finger Louie - Tomorow starts today
Starts off with a nice bass line and fast guitaring, the vocals kick in almost staringht away, and the vocals are very good. The song is very fast, and short, it seems to all be one in a way. They sound a bit like Pennywise, which is good. Some variety around 1:18, where it slows down and the vocals go all wierd for a bit, and then it gets back to normal, and the song finishes quickly without any warning. I had never heard of them before, but will make sure to download/buy some of their stuff in the future. 9/10 Descendents - Marriage http://s25.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0XUK0SBQEFRK91N5DGJYX39JI3 |

don't try and be clever. I've posted numerous posts like this in the Ask The Mods and any other problem threads ta the top of this forum that no-one bothers to read. Therefore i decided to post it in here so as someone might actually read it. I think you'll find that when i had asked people to consider the amount of trash in this thread, i combined my posts into one, so they wouldn't take up too much space. I've done a review already. Note how it's just one review on it's own, not surrounded by a pile of wank no-one cares about. I'll delete this soon And Dan, the yousendit isnt't working for me |

Pennywise- What If I (2:56)
This is one of the best Pennywise songs i have ever heard, i've been looking to get Full circle for a while now. Starts off with a nice guitar riff playing over a simple drum beat. After around 12 seconds the drum beat becomes more forceful and pounding along with a stronger sound before mellowing out for the first verse after around 12 seconds of this. The lyrics cut in after around 25 seconds very melodically and quite soft. This doesn't last for long as the band launches into a more forceful chorus after about 45 seconds, with the music following the same forceful pattern from the end of the intro. The next stage is to launch into a strong sing along section, with each line beginning with the title 'what if i'. The lyrics are excellent, fitting nicely with the song and indicating a certain amount of turmoil about their state of mind. Possibilities are thrown around ('what if i?', 'illusions for myself' etc). The song then continues into the second verse, following the same musical pattern as the preceding verse. It continues as a high calibre song, with the verse cutting in as before, before it launches into a melodic, flowing section again. This takes us on nicely to a small bridge before leading back into the chorus, as we are sung out right until the end of the song. An excellent song, one of the best i've heard from Pennywise. Duff McKagen - Seatlle Head
Starts out rough and choppy, I like it. For a punk song this is pretty distorted, seems more in the vein of hardcore or metal because of that, but it's clearly a punk song. I like the vocalist, I don't think everyone would. I think it's funny how the bitch about LA in a song I had assumed would be about Seattle. Meh, it's fun and angsty. There's even a few pseudo-breakdowns here. I'd say there is definitely a hardcore influence though it is punk. Simple drums, simple guitar, but a good song. The recording quality could be better, as I prefer good sound to the "garage" or "underground" sound, but otherwise I enjoyed it. 9/10 Strung Out - lucifermotorcade (Punk/Hardcore) Blindside - King of the Closet (Hardcore) Open Hand - Never Alone (Indie/Pop-Punk) (Warning 8 minutes long, song ends at 5 and goes to hidden track) |

Blindside - King Of The Closet
I don't mind the intro. The screaming on it's own shows a very good idea of what the song will be like. When the music comes in, it does sound good. It isn't too fast, but it's heavy and the chords used are very dark. It slows down slightly, then repeats itself. Around the 1:05 point, there is singing. This is such a good thing in my book, as I love screamers who can actually sing as well. The same music is used through the song pretty much, and there isn't much variety. At the 2:00 point, there is switching between singing and screaming, another positive point. At 2:20, the song slows down majorly for a while and the volume goes down a lot. A nice little addition to a long but repetitive song. The bridge lasts about 30 seconds, and then goes straight into the same music we heard 2 minutes before. The ending is nothing special either really, a very messy finish. Overall, the song itself was good for about 1 minute, but it gets boring and the fact you can barely make out the lyrics doesn't add much to the overused chords and drumbeats. I did like the song, but I can't see myself listening to it too much. The vocalist impressed me, he proved how strong his voice is both high and low, and was in my opinion the highlight of the song. 7/10 Selection: He Is Legend - The Seduction (Hardcore) The Receiving End Of Sirens - Planning A Prison Break (Experimental Rock) Anberlin - Never Take Friendship Personal (Pop Punk/Rock) |

Val Emmich - Privacy Attracts A Crowd
It has a very poppy sound in my opinion. The clean guitars, the drum beat, the singing. I could definately see this song being whored by MTV. But that's not the point. Also, the verses had the same chords as Taking Back Sunday - You're So Last Summer, they were just played in a different timing. A little off-putting that it sounds so similar, but that's forgivable They have a similar sound to The Get Up Kids, just with another vocalist. The whole song in general doesn't exactly lack energy, but the fact that it's a slow song played electric doesn't make me want to listen to it much. The chorus is a great part of the song, with heavier guitars and louder vocals. The lyrics are quite nice as well. The bridge is a little disappointiing, as it just sounds like the verse, although I do love the synth over the last chorus. Adds a little more music and emotion to it. Overall, it was a good power pop song in my opinion. The soothing sound of the guitar riffs fitted nicely with the vocals, which were very strong as well. 7/10 Recommendations: The Academy Is... - Season (Indie/Pop Punk) A Trunk Full Of Dead Bodies - You Ain't No Ninja, Bitch! Jumps in pretty fast. Pretty typical vocals in that it sounds like the typical "emo" style everyone's mimcking. Not bad, just very typical. Guitar and drums are mixed way below the vocals, a lot of emphasis on the vocals for sure. The vocalist screams at a few parts, I certainly didn't expect that (On second listen it's at the beginning too, oh well). There's a quick break one or two places that's pretty cool and I like it. Other than that though, it's all pretty typical and formulaic. Overall I'd have to say it's not bad, but not a lot stands out to put it above all the other acts out there either. No reason I wouldn't listen, but nothing there that makes me want to go research them more. 7/10 Strung out - lucifermotorcade (Hadcore/Punk) The Hobby - Serenadia (Progressive Punk) Open Hand - Never Alone (Indie/Pop-Punk) (Warning 8 minutes long, song ends at 5 and goes to hidden track) |
I hope you don't take this the wrong way Grateful, but it seems like you are suggesting an awful lot of the same bands. I'll dib anyway though
|
I meant that in most of your recommendations, you tend to pick the same bands (Butch Walker, Izzy Stradlin, Val Emmich). There's nothing wrong in using the same bands, but try and vary them out a little bit, give the reviewers something new if you get me?
Izzy Stradlin - Parasite Nice drumroll intro, although I think it's a little long. It jumps straight into the song with a very punky sound. The guitar riffs are quite high and fast, and the drumming is amazingly quick too. I like the vocals to this song too, they sound similar to Millencolin. Around the 0:57 point, the solo kicks in. For such a short song, the solo does drown out a bit, and even carries on into the last verse. I like that actually, it gives the song a little variation and something to listen out for over a part of the song you have already heard. I don't really know what to say for this. It's short (1:37 to be exact), and for that amount of time it did really well to keep me hooked. But I think they could've made it longer, it left me wanting to hear more like that. I loved the style of the music, even though it didn't particularly offer anything new. Overall it's a great punk rock song. Plain and simple. 8/10 The Suicide Pact - I'll Be Colt Seavers (Pop Punk) Scary Kids Scaring Kids - The City Never Sleeps (Indie/Pop Punk) Cute Is What We Aim For - I Don't Care If It's The Moon, We Went... Scary Kids Scaring Kids - The City Never Sleeps
Well I got a flyer about these guys at the show last night so I decided to give this a listen. Starts out very ambient, and then the dums and guiatr come in. Shortly the vocals come in. I don't like them. I don't think his voice fits the music and the screaming isn't fantastic. Very driven and high energy music. A lot of it reminds me of Thursday actually for some reason. Definitely not what I expected when I saw Pop-Punk/Indie. Really I kinda enjoyed it up to the vocals though. I can't really give a fair assessment as is because it didn't appeal to me at all, but if they got a new vocalist I definitely might like them more.
