Nope dude, 5th fret on the G is middle C

Nah, it's the fifth fret on G.
The seventeenth fret would be C3

I'd reccomend you start learning some theory. It's not that hard - I dont have a teacher either, so I taught myself theory. There is quite a lot of stuf to learn though (a teacher could be handy to pick out the things that are most important). All the stuf on there is really useful to know.

make a lefty version. All you have to do is flip the diagrams horizontally.

quick question - how come you've shown only those 5 patterns out of the 7 possible for each of the scales?

Just wondered - I'm going to set it upon myself to learn those patterns, (5 is easier than 7 and I wasnt sure how to restrict myself before), but I just wondered if there was any reason like "those are the most important because..."
