Alex Lifeson is one of my guitar influences. His rhythm parts are just as much fun to play as his solos. And unlike some guitarists, he actually knows how to make good use of effects.
Same here man. Alex uses his effects so well. |
It's strange. They're not the most energetic showmen (especially since they're in their 50s now), but they have this infectious sense of happiness. They really enjoy playing up on stage and the audience picks up on it.
It's also amazing how they realize more so than many other bands that a concert isn't just an aural experience. They put on a kick-*** light show as well and try to throw in a little humor (i.e. the dryers).
Yeah, when you watch their concerts you can just tell their having a great time. Not said with Dream Theatre. John just... stands there. I could see how some people don't like Geddy Lee's vocals but I do. |
Yeah I like A Farewell to Kings, It doesn't stand up as well to Hemispheres, although it does have the Cygnus X-1 Book I on it, which is amazing.
|
I only have their greatest hits "The spirit of radio" and 2112. I'm looking to buy a few more since I have listened to those to death
3 Musical Geniuses = Rush
I saw Rush on thier Power Windows Tour . Neil Peart best drummer ever PERIOD. I also saw them on the tour when they had the song "Time Stands Still" cant remember the name of the album or tour(smoked way too much weed back then).
Time Stand Still was off of 2112. I love Rush, theyt're my fav band. Just watched Rush in Rio like 2 hours ago haha. There's rumours that my city is tryin to get them to play a concert here, and I hope we do. Alex Lifeson is on of my fav guitarist's. He is so original. Neil Peart is the best drummer and Geddy has a nice voice and he's a really good bassist. |
Oh and Geddy Lee's singing is the most annoying sound I've ever heard.
Neil Pert is overrated, much like Portnoy. They both wish they were Bruford. If they don't they ought to. I don't have much to say about Alex Lifeson. As a band... Ugh it's all just far too overrated. I can't stand it.
You couldn't be more wrong. Neil was nominated for a grammy for his AMAZING drum solo O Baterista from Rush in Rio. Listen to him paly, his fill's are amazingly quick, his rhythms are very od dbut work in perfectu nison with the song and he also writes Rush's lyrics. |
Anyone tell you, you should reupload your avatar?
Anyone tell you, you should reupload your avatar?
hgaha yah I know, but I don;t have another copy of it. And I made it so it's the only one left hahaha. And I'm too lazy to get a new one... |
Ok, I didn't know if anyone has told you. It looks... intresting :thumb:
|
Rush = Pure musical genius.
Saw the 30th Anniversary Tour. All I can say was it kicked ass! |
Ok, I didn't know if anyone has told you. It looks... intresting :thumb:
haha it jsut showe about 5 Rush album covers, the last one being their first album. Took about 5 minutes of my time... But I don't have the program on this comp to make it again  |

Yeah well Eminem won an Oscar. Does that make him talented? No. And do you ever watch the Grammys? Ever notice that... THEY'RE COMPLETE BULL****? |
Yeah well Eminem won an Oscar.
Does that make him talented? No. And do you ever watch the Grammys? Ever notice that... THEY'RE COMPLETE BULL****?
How about this then: - 1976, the break-through album 2112 sells 1 million copies. - 1977, Closer to the Heart is the band's first internationally charted single. - 1980, Rush and each individual member place in the top ten in every applicable category in Sounds and Melody Maker Polls in Britain. - 1990, Rush is voted Group of the Decade in Canada in recognition of their musical and cultural impact from 1980-1990. - 1990, Rush wins the coveted and prestigious Mayor's Award at hte Toronto Music Awards. - 1992, Rush was honoured with the "Harold Moon Award" by the Society of Composers, Authors, and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN). It is the most prestigious songwriter's award in Canada. - 1993, Rush are chosen as recipient of the "Toronto Arts Award". The award, presented on behalf of the Arts Foundation of Toronto, recognizes the recipient's entire body of work through artistic excellence and contributions to the arts and culture of Toronto. - 1996, Rush release their 21st gold album "Test For Echo". According to the Recording Industry Association (RIAA) this places them in a third place tie with Kiss. What makes this feat so remarkable is that it extends their consecutive gold certification streak to 21, their entire catalogue of albums. - 1997, Each of the band's three members are recognized as "Officers of the Order Of Canada". This prestigious honour reflects the unique contribution to Canada, and indeed the world, that Rush have made since their very early origins in Toronto, and throughout their twenty-three year recording career. This is the first time the Order of Canada is given to a group rather than an individual. - 1997, The Foundation Forum and F Musicfest have announced Rush this year's recipient of the "Concrete/Foundations Outstanding Contribution to Music Award". Rush joins a distinguished list of receipts including Van Halen, KISS, Ozzy Osbourne and Alice Cooper. - 1999, Rush was inducted into Canada's Walk Of Fame in Toronto. The other inductees included that year are David Croneberg, Celine Dion, and Buffy Sainte- Marie. That's all off the official website, and there's more that I left out for the sake of brevity. The group has made a massive cultural impact and achieved a degree of immortality through it. |
I do believe Rush is long overdue for an official thread........

I don't need proof that they made a huge cultural impact, I already know all this. Hitler made a huge cultural impact too. |
Hitler made a huge cultural impact too.
That is possibly the most assinine analogy I've ever seen on this board. And coming from me, that's saying something. |
Yeah well Eminem won an Oscar.

Hitler made a huge cultural impact too.
1) Every member of Rush is a better musician in every sense of the word than you'll ever be. 2) At least Rush left an eternal mark on the world and was part of forming the culture of the world, all you'll ever be is a zit on the @ss of society. |
i think Rush is probably the most respectable band around. Their still going strong since late 60's/early 70's, never got in any fights (regrouped/broke up), and have the most well balenced music capabilities on all thier instruments. Very underated though...I never hear them on my classic or modern rock stations, and most people have never heard of them (around here).
EDIT: Could a mod make this an official thread? i dont know if their is one for Rush, but i know Id be a regular in here if it was. |

I hear Rush all the time on music stations where I am. Whenever I work I hear them on my local station. I also have gotten a lot of my friend's into Rush, they're jsut in general an easy to like band with tons of talent. |

Man, to think that Geddy's voice almost threw me off of Rush. I heard them once, decided they sucked and went on my own business. I then got a hold of 2112 and realized what an idiot I was. Rush is now one of my fave bands.
i think Rush is probably the most respectable band around. Don't know if thats what you meant but thought I would point it out. |
I do believe Rush is long overdue for an official thread........
That's why I made this :D |
No more official threads will be made, sadly. Not every band of large repute can have one, otherwise that's all these forums would consist of.
That said, Rush have got the most competent musicians around, as far as I'm concerned: not only can they all play like bitches and in many many different modes, but their musical proficiency in terms of hooks and overall songwriting ability is quite staggering. The only area where I would say they falter would be in the lyrics department: Peart's metaphors and juxtaposition of contrasting images can get very amateurish sometimes. But these guys are a great group: I've actually been listening to them a lot after a long dry spell, now that I'm sort of sick of all the Dream Theater and Opeth I have. |
i have never really gotten into them even tho i absolutly love 2112 but the other songs just not for me.

Every member is a legend in their respective instruments and each play with taste and restrain when needed. Rush should be held in hgh esteem by everyone who considers music pure and good. |
Rush...They are amazing, i know must of the bands i listen are before my time, but ive really come to appreciate great music and Rush are one of my favourite bands, and it has to be sed one of my favourite Rush songs has to be Spirit Of The Radio, it owns!
Yeah well Eminem won an Oscar.
Does that make him talented? No.
can you prove that point? no. his lyrics are extremely intelligent, just like many other rap artist's lyrics. stop being so stereotypical just cos he's a famous rapper. why dont you try and write some lyrics and why don't you try and compete in a rap battle? it's more harder than you'll ever imagine |
Does anyone have any thoughts on "Rush"?
It gets slated here, but I like it a lot... |
I have all albums except signals and grace under pressure.
<3 Rush. |
Rush is kind of like Boston -- you have to listen to them a whole bunch before you like them.
|
I wouldn't say so, Rush are (in my opinion) a lot easier to get into than Boston.
|
I agree, boston are ok, but rush are amazing and i havent heard all that many songs :thumb:
|
Does anyone have any opinions on Fly By Night?
I got it the other day and it hasn't stopped spinning in my CD player. |
Does anyone have any opinions on Fly By Night?
I got it the other day and it hasn't stopped spinning in my CD player.
Didn't really like the album as a whole. Fly by Night, The Anthem and Rivendell are my fav on it though. |
Rivendell is a great song, I haven't listened to it for a while actually...
|
It's awesome how so many people on here love an underappreicated band like RUsh as much as me.
Rush had no huge single that made them popular. If someone has never heard of Rush and ask what songs do they play I doubt they have heard any of their songs. Get what I'm saying? |
I see you said they haven't regrouped but what about their drummer from the first album who was not good ol' Neil. Don't know if thats what you meant but thought I would point it out.
Yes, good ol John Rutsey. I know about him, i got their regrouping deal from a guitar magazine, though i may have reworded it weird, missing some exception. Still the closest youll get to real classic rock in a concert with an amazing band. I wouldnt say legendary, but close. |

But Rivendell was boring at irst, but I have grown to love it. |Another good song I like is Driven, I really like the first switch when it gets softer and he starts plain those hcords. It's really fun to play. |
I agree, boston are ok, but rush are amazing and i havent heard all that many songs :thumb:
Boston is better. Boston was musical wizards. Listen to their new CD Coporate America before you judge them. Please. |
La Villa Strangiato is the best song EVER!!!
