Excellent, I've been wanting to hear Athiest for ages. Good thread. :thumb:

Red_cloud 03-03-2005 11:41 AM

Does anybody know where i can get a copy of piece of time or unquestionable presence in the UK ?

LordDargon 03-03-2005 11:46 AM
Does anybody know where i can get a copy of piece of time or unquestionable presence in the UK ?
Apparently Piece of Time is rare as all fuck for some reason or other. Not a big Atheist fan anyways so I don't really know.

Permanent Solution 03-03-2005 12:58 PM

You can get mp3 format of unquestionable prescence from me on AIM in about...3 hours maybe.

Slow,as your DL-capacity is limited, but well worth the time.

IAJP 03-03-2005 01:56 PM

Well done, I haven't heard much Tech Death Metal, but thanks to this, I'll download some tracks :thumb:

3rdplanet 03-03-2005 02:22 PM

Lykathea Aflame are floating my boat.

Good work.

Samm 03-03-2005 02:41 PM

Everyone should really check Anata.... they're the new school of technical death metal.

Under A Stone With No Inscription is an awesome album and will probably became a technical death metal classical in years to come. That's not saying they have no room to improve, hopefully they will continue to write awesome albums.

You should also check out:
The Black Dahlia Murder (non as technical as Anata)
Ephel Duath (jazz influenced)
Extol (not as technical as other bands mentioned be like switching time sigs, very accessible)
Quo Vadis (as some have already mentioned)

RiceMonster 03-03-2005 03:02 PM

Very good job. You covered everything.

I put it almost on par with Elvenefris, which is something from me because Elvenfris is THE best death metal album ever. No contest.

I've heard those.

Anata are really cool, so I'll second that.

Bartender 03-03-2005 03:51 PM

Good job.
Ya sorry about that Manuscriptreplica, I'm just not used to someone actually including everything on their first post. Usually it takes a few edits.

And my friend is really into some form of metal and some songs have a lot of keyboards and synthesizers or something like that. Does Technical Death Metal have stuff like that, or is it mainly guitars/bass for rhythms and melodies?
Cynic use some keyboards on Focus, as do Theory in Practice on Colonising the Sun.

LordDargon 03-03-2005 03:54 PM

Arg, those keyboards. Like on Shapeshifter - totally awesome riffage, but around 2:00 these unimaginably gay keyboards come in and start wanking all over.

Oh well, Colonizing the Sun still owns. That's sort of my only complaint.

Thor 03-03-2005 03:55 PM

Good job on this. Now I am more educated than I was on death metal in the first place.

I actually think they work quite well. Adds a bit of a sinister touch to them. I'm glad more death metal bands haven't taken on keyboards, though.

To me they sound like the ultra-ultra-cheesy keyboards they use on kid's shows whenever there is a haunted house. They sound like a joke.

I certainly agree with the last sentence.

Shadows Rise 03-03-2005 04:26 PM

Spastic Ink and Watchtower are also good but they are just technical metal not death metal i guess.

SLATANIC-666 03-03-2005 05:47 PM

Nice FG manuscript :thumb:

Silenius 03-03-2005 06:04 PM

Good jod dude, I might check some of the reccomended stuff out. :)

That's why it's somewhat sinister.

I just listened to Cryptopsy – Slit Your Guts, now i'm scared.

blueyxd 03-03-2005 09:14 PM

Really good write up there, good to see the Alarum name mentioned too.
Here's some downloads for Alarum - http://www.mp3.com.au/artist.asp?id=742

would Canvas Solaris fit into this discussion?

Hitroshimite 03-03-2005 09:32 PM

I never listened to much Death Metal before, but Scavenger of Human Sorrow. I need to check out more Death.

Very good FG.

ThrashMaster27 03-03-2005 10:37 PM

Very good indeed, it'll open up a few peoples eyes no doubt. How do you go about making threads for genres? do you have to have permission or what? or do people just decide to do 'em?

manuscriptreplica 03-03-2005 11:15 PM
Excellent work, Ryan.
I have a username for a reason! :)
Can you please explain why I should listen to this genre?
Because it's better than you
Does anybody know where i can get a copy of piece of time or unquestionable presence in the UK ?
Both are out of print, so you'll have to look to ebay or 2nd hand stores

Thanks for the comments guys, and Vedas for providing the Demilich links (which I had forgotten the URL for)

Yea you have to ask me and Fast fingers, but the next one is dibbed. Basically, as soon as the new FG is posted send me and FF an email and if you're the first you get the next one

Leper 03-04-2005 01:43 AM

Great job man. Death Metal isn't exactly suited to my musical tastes but i love learning about new genres and their heritage at the very least.

KrashTest 03-04-2005 02:08 AM
Death Metal really doesn't take any skill, any mistakes done are simpily coverd by distortion, there is no timing in death metal, no rythem, so you just trash at your guitar, the vocals are pointless having because you can't even hear what the poor guy is saying, no harmony or melody, no real skill or talent involed, in my opinion death metal is usless for anyone trying to be a good guitarist.
Listen to Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Eddie Van halen, Jeff Beck, Jimi Page then come back to ME! and edit the insults

Apocalyptic Raids 03-04-2005 04:25 AM

Why bother coming into a thread bout technical death metal, if you just want to bag it?

and learn to spell while your at it.

Stoic 03-04-2005 06:10 AM

Thank you sir :thumb: I've heard Psycroptic but no one else

Bartender 03-04-2005 08:36 AM

Is this thread getting smaller?

EDIT: Never mind, I see what happened.

manuscriptreplica 03-04-2005 08:36 AM

I deleted my posts, as I was insulting no-one :p
Thank you sir :thumb: I've heard Psycroptic but no one else
I'm glad that someone cares! I know lots of them, it's been a year and a half since I started digging into technical death.
