That 'Leaving Transition' song is really nice. It reminds me a lot of one of my favorite bands called The Samples. keep up the good work.

i second that.

gaslight 10-07-2004 06:15 AM

Leaving Transition has beautiful guitar work man, your singing reminds me of the guy from The Starting Line. You have good vocal control, sounds like you are actually a singer, unlike 90% of young bands today.

These tracks are going on my hard drive.

myhatredinside 10-08-2004 11:26 PM

Good work, these songs are great, i was listening to them last night and was like, hey that band was great im gonna go listen agian. Id buy it for sure.

The recording is very nice! It's isn't my style of music... but hell yeah, great job.
Can you explain al little more how you recorded everything? What mics do you use? etc. etc.

Maybe some pics would be nice for the fun?

Manimal 11-24-2004 05:09 PM

Great job. It really isnt my thing but its nice, catchy, tight and sounds wonderful. Keep up the good work.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 11-24-2004 05:56 PM

i thought the guitar work was excellent, and the way you dubbed everything over sounded really tight.

the only thing ill have to complain about would be the singing. to me, whispering or singing softly is a complete cop out to actually singing. you also dont enounciate(sp?) very well. but your voice doesnt go off into all crazy directions when you do bring it up in volume, and for that i think you. you work with the range youve got and thats all you need to do. i cant tell you how many times ive heard some band trying to do vocals and sound monotone with absolutely no emotion, with horrible range to boot... anyway that brings me to the emotion you put in, excellent job.

id like to hear some more stuff, this was actually really good.

CommieCanada 11-25-2004 02:12 AM

i appriciate the compliments.

as for the mics we used, i dont remember what they were (not recorded here) so i will have to check on that. and sorry, no pics are up yet.

and as for my vocals. i had to cop out because i cant really sing. well i suppose i have a decent voice, but i cant project at all without cracking. i am taking voice lessons now however

kOffkOff 11-25-2004 02:18 AM

Leaving Transition is really pretty good. And I don't usually compliment people. :thumb:

Shaven_Raven 11-25-2004 06:40 AM

yeah..awsome songs..ive been thinking for a while about picking up my accoustic for a while and your songs just showed me just why id want to do that...nice job

Shaven_Raven 11-25-2004 06:43 AM

come on!

surly there are some more people who have recorded stuff they can get on here...i really enjoy listening to other peoples material..btw leaving transition :thumb:

kidmercury 11-25-2004 06:54 AM

good stuff. i'm not a huge fan of the vocals, but i do think they are done in a style that will appeal to many people. singing reminds me a bit of elliott smith.

myhatredinside 11-25-2004 07:40 PM

hey forgot about you guys there for awhile, i love it sounds awesome.

Personally I love it, but I'm a huge fan of this genre. I know if you get critisism it will be about the intros being too long, other than that theres not a lot negative people can say.
but I'll say again I LOVE IT, and by the looks of it so does everyone else.

editing and mixing and mastering was all done on a pirated copy of pro tools

Schrodinger's Cat 01-14-2006 12:34 PM

The production is very good and the songs sound alright, but I guess by virtue of the fact that they're all accoustic songs, they all kind of sound the same to me. I wouldn't worry about it though. Or maybe I spoke too soon, I just go to the third song.

Either way, keep it up. Is there any chance you could go through a detailed explanation of the process to record it? I think it'd be very interesting and really informative and helpful for a lot of people.

Biancazzurri 01-15-2006 11:42 AM

i've got confused with band's name
they are not aggalloch but "explosions in the sky"
here is the common excerpt:

the recording process was actually very simple.

the best way to record an acoustic guitar is to have a mic, preferably one of the long skinny ones, pointing at the 12th fret and not directly at the opening.

when recording vocals, you need to have a screen in front of the mic so you can filter the hard P and K sounds so it doesnt distort. the poor mans way to do this is just get a clothes hanger and bend it into shape and put panty hose over it.

if you are recording at home like we did, also make sure to sound proof everything. Tape pillows around your computer to get rid of the humming, put up heavy blankets on all of your walls and doors. This also helps with acoustics in the room.
