Great stuff. All of your songs are amazing. And your lead guitarist, just simply amazing. I just got done watchin the video on him performing I believe and Yngwie solo and then Eugenes trick bag. WOW, good stuff!

bremenx 03-15-2004 12:59 AM

I listened to all three songs and it was interesting. Unlike some of the people who replied, I actually like the singing, especially on "Descendants of Death." The vocalist sounded like Megadeth's singer. The guitarist is very good on the oh-so-Steve Vai-ish solo near the end of "DoD." I think your cover of "Paranoid" is **** good too. And yeah, my speakers and I jumped when the volume hit too. :-p But your group is rather impressive...keep up the good work. I agree with some of the people who replied-->You guys have a lot of talent, and could easily get famous with your level of skill.

Disillusioned-X 03-17-2004 07:05 PM

I just listen to your songs man. I don't see all the hype, I mean the guitars you can barely understand also riffs aren’t very good and you guys have no hooks, drums are very basic, vocals are very boring, couldn’t hear the bass very well. I guess if your trying to be technical your ok but no one wants to hear technical music, not radio friendly and very poor production. I would work on better sound and heavier guitars. Glam rock i'd give you a 2 out of 10

thrashfanatic2010 03-19-2004 10:59 PM

^^^^^^^^maybe they don't wanna be radio friendly yes ive heard their songs and i think they;re excellent , the production could use a lil work but its great

mxshredmasta 03-20-2004 04:00 PM

i knee before your greatness, you guys F***ing rock, i think you guys have major potential to go big if you guys can get your singer to be into it more. other than that

"life is short, metal is FOREVER"

Po0sH 03-20-2004 04:04 PM

Wow...utterly mind-blowing!.... You guys are gonna get big no doubt!

EDIT: I saw your site, awesome site! I see you are already making your way up the ladder to fame. Also, your betrayer logo is badass!!!

EDIT AGAIN: Can we get some tabs for the songs? seriously dude!....also, after listening to your stuff, i am quite jealous! :thumb:

Po0sH 03-21-2004 01:20 AM

*BUMP* cuz they are so **** good, this should be stickied! Also, i dled all the songs and they are going on my Mp3 player!

Light_Fantastic 03-21-2004 01:39 AM

Just heard some of your MP3's. Not too bad...
Some of the best I've heard on this forum...
2 suggestions....
Guitar Tones on the recordings....need to be a bit more clearer, because the phrasing
& notation is lost in the mix.....
Lead vocals.....
Since I am a 44 yo hard rock vocalist who did a ton of 80's melodic rock the first time around, the singer need to dig deeper & go for more emotion, & some high end screams would flavor your music quite a bit.
Othwise, great rocking sound...
Great job.
I have a thread on here for my band Death & Taxes...I would appreciate some critique of my music from the Betrayer camp.

Just out of curiosity, were you listening to eye of the beholder when you wrote tribulation? its an awesome song! i listen to it all the time!
Just out of curiosity, were you listening to eye of the beholder when you wrote tribulation? its an awesome song! i listen to it all the time!
I think it was Norm (our bassists) who came to practice one day with some of the basslines for Tribulation, then I came up with some guitar parts right then. I'm not sure where he got his inspiration for this song (maybe he was listening to Eye of the Beholder lol.....I'll ask him).

Thank you everyone for your comments/reviews!!!

flawlesxguitarist 03-24-2004 01:07 AM

Dude i love your music. The holy wars cover is ace. I love the vocals.

Hey thanks flawlesxguitarist \m/ Ya, Megadeth was probalby my biggest influence on Rusted Icons. Since then I've been really inspired by bands like Nightwish, Edguy & Helloween...especially in the vocal department. I still love Megadeth though and want to continue writing Megadeth inspired music. I just like a good mixture of things but always with the same elements such as melody & guitar solos.

I hope we can record some better quality live performances soon, but usually there's never that good of a mixing/micing job to do it....or we screw up at some point in every single song lol.

HondoII 03-30-2004 09:52 PM

You guys still need to come to LA ;)

its not as bad as people say it to be :P
You guys still need to come to LA ;)

That would be something we would love to be able to do. It's just a very far trip from where we live (Windsor Ontario Canada) and we have no money lol. But hopefully that'll change this summer, we've been in contact with people organizing Crue Fest at the Whiskey. Last year we didn't make the cut, maybe this year we will \m/

ktululu 03-31-2004 02:03 PM

That is very, very good. Descendants of Death has gotta be one of my favourite songs now i reckon. I think someone commented on the drumming earlier i personally think it starts off very well, i like the simple kind of beat hes got going. I think it should get more complicated though nearer the end of the song as it does become quite plain. I also love the vocals, the singing goes perfectly with the song. I've just started a band and my singer doesn't like anything but blues... which is a pity cuz he makes up some great lyrics. I need a singer like you who is more interested in the Maiden and Megadeth scene!!! come to England so i can kidnap you after watching one of your gigs then make you the singer of my band Mwahahahahaha  On a more serious note are you ever gonna play in England because you've got one guy whos buying tickets right here.

Po0sH 03-31-2004 10:26 PM

I listen to you guys probably everyday, keep up the good work, anything new post on these forums!

naboo 04-01-2004 04:41 PM

Wow, man those were amazing. I would buy your cd but anyway... Those were great songs man. Did you write them? How old are you? All the members in my band are 14 and you guys just blow us away. All your songs were great, i love em.

JeffofBetrayer 04-02-2004 12:11 AM

"come to England so i can kidnap you after watching one of your gigs then make you the singer of my band Mwahahahahaha"

LOL!!!

"On a more serious note are you ever gonna play in England because you've got one guy whos buying tickets right here."

I'd love to play in so many places, England would definitely be one of them. We just have to finish building our raft:) Can I hold you to the ticket sale? But seriously it would be a dream come true. We have no plans to play in England yet but we'll see what happens.

"I listen to you guys probably everyday, keep up the good work, anything new post on these forums!"

Cool, that's awesome, thanks!!! I'll be sure to post something new on here (whenever we get our sh*t together lol). The next thing will probalby be a single that we're working on for a possible video. The major thing that's been standing in our way for this song is coming up with the right lyrics.

"Those were great songs man. Did you write them?"

Thanks naboo, I wrote most of the guitar riffs, all the leads, most of the vocal melodies & some of the lyrics. The rest was a collaboration with the rest of the band members or ideas of their own.

"How old are you?"

I'm 26

"All the members in my band are 14 and you guys just blow us away."

You are way ahead of me, I only started playing guitar when I was 17 and I only started singing when I was about 21. By the time you're my age (if you stick with it) you'll be amazing!!!

Sky 04-02-2004 02:39 AM

good quality music, the singer does nothing whatsover for me, almost makes it unbearable

Haha well I definitley hope so.

JeffofBetrayer 04-02-2004 09:20 PM
the singer does nothing whatsover for me, almost makes it unbearable
Tell me about it, like f**kin learn to sing buddy

I really don't care for the singing myself on that album. Just curious, what kind of singing do you like? Or who are some of your favorite singers?

Po0sH 04-02-2004 10:16 PM

Your singing is fine! Its superb actually

JeffofBetrayer 04-03-2004 12:22 AM
Your singing is fine! Its superb actually
Thanks, maybe some of my problem is just hearing my own voice. I think when you hear your own voice (even just speaking) played back to you through something it automatically sounds different/wierd to you since you're used to hearing your own voice right from your mouth...lol that kinda sounds funny but I don't know how else to explain it.

But I'd say I'm much closer to where I want to be with my singing now (more towards a Maiden/Edguy style). It's been so long since we recorded that material. I don't even know if I could sound the same (as my voice on Rusted Icons) even if I tried now.

Light_Fantastic 04-03-2004 12:29 AM

Hey Jeffof Betrayer,
I noticed in all your posts, you never give any critique or comments about anyone
else' music. A lot of the younger rockers might appreciate some comments & advice on their music from someone who is farther along.

Jay

HondoII 04-03-2004 01:53 PM

Well of course mr. jeff's voice isnt like Bruce Dickinson, but it fits very well with what they play. Holy Wars, you got extrememly close to Dave Mustaine's voice.

ktululu 04-03-2004 02:32 PM

I agree with the person who said you sounded like Dave Mustaine the singing on your cover was IDENTICAL to the original version. Keep up the good work!

Ya, that's because I only care about my band :thumb: jk.

I have listened to other peoples stuff on here. Some I found to be very good and others....let's just say they could use a little work. I guess I should make some comments. I just find it very hard to say something about someones work. I'd rather only make a comment if I was asked by someone for advise or suggestions on something specific. I don't know maybe I'll change my mind but right now I just can't bring myself to comment/make suggestions on other peoples work without them asking. But then again I guess that's what this forum is for. Hahaha, ok I'm making excuses....I'm wussing out because I don't want to offend anyone I guess

Po0sH 04-04-2004 02:08 AM

Do you have tabs for your songs on your site?

Hempdrummer 04-05-2004 11:43 PM

i didnt really like it but yet again i don like most 80's metal :(

JeffofBetrayer 04-11-2004 08:25 PM

Do you have tabs for your songs on your site?

No, we don't have any tabs....yet. Some people have asked us to tab out our songs and I would like to but I just can't seem to find the time to do it. All the time I have I try to devote to writing for our next album, practicing, promoting the band etc. But I think that after we record our next CD I'll have time to tab out some stuff off Icons since writing/recording a new album won't be a top priority any more.

Po0sH 12-28-2004 11:50 PM

I had to bump this because this band is amazing.

Good stuff dude. Shawn pimped your band pretty good over at the Metallica boards. I've heard your stuff and it kicks serious ***. If you guys ever play in Kingston, I'm there!

Cheers

JeffofBetrayer 01-03-2005 01:20 AM

Thanks for the bump Po0sH!

"you guys are really good. how long have your guitarists been playing for? what age are you guys? very good stuff guys"

Hey thanks spiderman546, I'm 27 and I've been playing guitar for about 10yrs, and our other guitarist (who joined the band after Rusted Icons was recorded) is......25...i think lol & has been playing for about 12 years.

"Good stuff dude. Shawn pimped your band pretty good over at the Metallica boards. I've heard your stuff and it kicks serious ***. If you guys ever play in Kingston, I'm there!

Thanks crunchmeister! Lol, yeah I think a moderator at the Metallica board almost banned Shawn over something related to that.

Skit 01-03-2005 08:23 AM

I first found you guys from the metallica forums.... you rule!

:thumb:

axetickle 01-03-2005 09:12 AM

This is really good material, I love what you did with the Paranoid cover, the solo idea, very original ;)

Excellent.

The only thing I didn't like is the singing (in my opinion) is a bit quiet?

Hmmm, might just be me.

Keep rocking,
axetickle

crunchmeister 01-03-2005 09:53 AM
Thanks crunchmeister! Lol, yeah I think a moderator at the Metallica board almost banned Shawn over something related to that.
Heheh. Fixxxer will ban people for breathing too hard sometimes. He's a touchy fellow.

We all advertise our bands' stuff over there, but there seemed to be a daily new thread about Betrayer for a while. I know Fixxxer doesn't like that, so Shawn may have gotten a warning or something.

IbanezGeorge 01-03-2005 01:45 PM

This is awsome, I love your voice. I find you sounded great in paranoid cover. You really remind me of dave mustaine

JeffofBetrayer 01-08-2005 08:07 PM

Thanks for the replies & compliments!

"The only thing I didn't like is the singing (in my opinion) is a bit quiet?"

Just wondering if it's the actual way I sang that sounded quiet or the volume/mix level of the vocal track that you found to be quiet?
