It's a canopy bed. You drape a canopy over it to soften and colour the light, and to create a sense of being enclosed. Also, they just make a pretty big statement. You don't exactly put them in a 8'x10' room. :p They're a really old style of bed, mostly probably limited to the ruling class in medieval times.

People buy them if they're looking for a more rustic, old-fashioned look.

I'm now going to get one, put the canopy over the sides, put it in my 8'x10' room, and then center the fan right over the bed to steal all of the cool air. :P I still think they look weird.

I have very little of my own furniture because I live in a furnished place. I'm too poor to get my own stuff anyway. But I'd like to because I can afford cheaper places then if I rent unfurnished. I do want a new bed though - the one in this room squeaks like a motherbitch if you so much as roll to the side a tiny bit, and the mattress is just wank. Plus who knows what's gone on on this mattress with previous tenants D:

I don't remember which rig I was playing through. I think I was playing through that Orange tube amp and the fEarful stack. Absolutely INSANE tone. Those fEarfuls are ****ing amazing, and that head was gnarly.
