Arcade Fire is a good one. Is Kings of Leon too main stream to be considered alternative?
I dont think so, i was almost thinking kings of leon might be best of 2010 too. the article spin did on them was really good. did you read it?

Zebba 12-16-2010 04:53 AM

yeah dudes Slayer is not alternative, The Smashing Pumpkins though!

incompl 12-16-2010 02:44 PM

Daria And The Morgendorffers.

HARDTOEXPLAIN 12-16-2010 07:38 PM

Since I consider the National and Arcade fire both to be Alternative Indie Bands. I would have to go with the Gaslight Anthem on terms based off of the alternative rock records released in 2010. Overall throughout probably someone else. Jimmy Eat World maybe or Third Eye Blind :smash:

Pandacore 12-17-2010 06:27 PM

Arrow To The Sun
Fit For Rivals
Adora
Evolett

Seconded

Foo Fighters!

Gaslight

I'd agree with Gaslight Anthem. Why doesn't sputnik consider them alternative? I certainly wouldn't label them punk.

no love for the Chili Peppers?

SugarCoatedSour 12-28-2010 07:32 PM

da best is Shudder To Think - Pony Express Record.

therianthrope 12-30-2010 01:34 PM

Blind Melon for best alt!
da best is Shudder To Think
To be fair to STT, I think they transcend the simple 'alternative' genre... art rock, post-hardcore maybe, at times? operatic post-pop/rock? I dunno, but to simply say they're alt is a little bit of an injustice IMO...

SugarCoatedSour 12-30-2010 01:52 PM

mostly as you mentioned, other than for the case of Pony Express Record. that was an album that was stylistically modeled to shock the alternative rock scene. Everything they made before reflected a slightly alternative flavor to the usually post-hardcore roster of discord records.

tell me they don't look like some alterna-rock hipsters...damn tho that Hodgkins is really getting to him around this period

fact is this band is like a prize piece I love and am thankful for having found.

Fair enough.

Definitely a big STT fan here though too. Did you know Craig Wedren composes music for TV and movies these days? I think it was Weeds I saw him on the credits for and was like, fuck yea!

SugarCoatedSour 12-30-2010 02:09 PM

I knew they were involved in film score, I'm sure they branched out more. I know that Nathan Larson has done some worthwhile film scores in the late 90's. They certainly are some creative mothafuckas. The production standards of Pony Express Record not to mention the arranging is rare to say the least.

I did not read the article, but I did see them live and they were quite good. i'd say best of 2010 easily.

livemusic 01-05-2011 02:08 PM

Arcade Fire!

OnFireAlive 01-11-2011 06:10 PM

I don't know if they count but in case they do i'll definetly choose Thrice.

If not that'll be Chevelle.
Year 2010? I am not updated but for me the best alternative rock band is Incubus.
Yes, Incubus is very good and all the songs that they have played are just awesome and good to be heard.

loubeaner 04-22-2011 11:57 AM

The Gaslight Anthem

I would say The Gaslight Anthem. Why are they not listed under the alt/indie category on this website?

AmericanIdle 05-04-2011 07:26 PM

When I hear "alternative", it makes me think of the bands from the 90's that go the coin termed: Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, Sublime, Stone Temple Pilots, No Doubt, 311

echo1991 06-22-2011 03:24 PM

The Horrors

tony3t 09-29-2011 01:31 PM
