I disagree with that.

I don't get my facts from TV, or American media. I watch BBC.

Also, American death tolls are nothing compared to the reality of life in this country.

Perspective, 2000 Americans died in Iraq since the conflice started right? Do you know how many people are murdered in America evey day? Care about that? No.

It's war. Not paddycakes. Either way, no matter how the war started or how badly it's going for Bush's "regime" it's still a war. A war most Americans believed needed to be fought for better or worse, WMDs or no.

See, I have the pleasure of working near the UN. From 1991, a few times a year, Iraqi Americans would gather at the UN and beg them to do something about stopping Saddam's genocide.

What did the UN do? Deny deny deny. Why? What countries denied them most? The same countries who made billions off the Oil for Food program.

No one ever talks about that. Ever. So, while I have stated time and time again I am no fan of this administration nor their actions, it's better to go under the guise of some fake WMDs than to take other courses of action.

However, 2000 dead American soldiers saved possibly millions of more Iraqis from being murdered because they want to be free.

You see it your way, and I'll see it mine.
I agree completely. Our country agreed that this war needed to be fought. We were also just in fighting the war even if there were no weapons of mass destruction because Saddam had already violated several other things of the agreement they were in. Our troops also found were the weapons were. Bush is not responsible for these lives. This is a war that needed to be fought, and Saddam needed to be taken out. To say Iraqi's are more in danger now is absurd. Saddam killed millions in torture chambers and the people could not speak out. This is a war. Look at other wars. This is a small amount of casualties. I am not a huge fan of the adminastration either, but I do think that they are handling this well and are doing what needs to be done.

Stop bull****ting. Estimates talk about tens of thousands.

DBoons Ghost 06-02-2006 03:13 PM

Yeah I agree. Don't quote me with that jib.

I have never supported the conflict in Iraq, I simply justify it differently than others.
yeah.

What about the boy whose house is demolished by bomb raids, begging reporters to help him find his arms?

Or the man who pulls the remains of his dead wife out of the rubble?

What about the young woman begging for mercy right before the cement wall behind her is decorated with her own brains?

What about the man being beaten for his belief in the town square?

There was an episode of Crossfire in which an Afghan woman told reporters that she wished that Saddam was back in power after the Americans came.

Saddam's in power for about two decades, and after a few months with the Americans, she wishes he were back.

I don't know about you, but I prefer my genocides quick and painless.
Who shot the young woman? Surely if it was American forces, it wasn't supposed to be. And the Afghan woman? She live in Iraq now? She can go back to Afghanistan.

Reaganista 06-02-2006 04:14 PM

i'd swap the word justified with promoted

nowhesingsnowhesobs 06-02-2006 04:19 PM

Hey man everyone knows it was for the oil.

griftadan 06-02-2006 06:26 PM

really depends on what you define as state terrorism.

dislocated214 06-02-2006 07:05 PM

There are plenty of leaders like Saddam, that are worse or just like him to his people. Iraq was already under economic sanctions post-Persian Gulf, which completly devastated the Iraqi people. So now to help out the devestated region, we are going to bomb them.

We all know, the only reason we care about the Middle East and not other places (Darfur, etc), is because of the price of oil.

"the calculated use of violence or the threat of violence to inculcate fear; intended to coerce or to intimidate governments or societies in the pursuit of goals that are generally political, religious, or ideological".

That is the definition of terrorism in a US Army Manual. So according to this definition, IMO, the United States & Co. are sponsoring State terrorism. Bush & Co. have tried to put fear into Americans (ie: WMDz, reminders of 9/11) fo political/ideological reasons.

We have also sponsored terrorists elsewhere (Contras, Mujahideen, Diem, etc)

It does matter. :)
