Kage, you are Redrawing aren't you? I support your taste in music. If you want anything on pizzatini's last.fm, don't be shy to ask.

I've recently been digging Magyar Posse's new album Random Avengers. It's a very electronicy post-rock with some background vocals (hums and la las, no words). I suggest to all.

The Jungler 06-11-2006 06:01 PM

I'm falling in love with this genre.

Man they are amazing. RA is a very good album, my favorite song is definitely Popzag.

Pale-Folklore 06-11-2006 06:18 PM

Thanks man, that's nice of you. I think you've been on my Neighbors list basically since I got the account, but I didn't realize it was you. :)

I've never heard of Magyar Posse, but I will check them out for sure. Do you have a Slsk account? Or AIM?

pizzatini on soulseek, but I'm rarely on and I only ever have 2GB of music on my computer at once. I can get my music on my computer and log on if you want anything.

petethecowz on aim.

I recognized your avatar and asked if it was you in the old PT thread I believe, but you never acknowledged me :( Probably because of my awesome Trains cover

Kage 06-11-2006 06:34 PM

 No, it had nothing to do with the Trains cover, I probably just didn't see it. Sorry about that. I'm looking into some tracks from a different Magyar album now, but I'll add you on AIM just the same. Mine is headshokk7.

Tortoise
God is an Astronaut
Rachels
Talk Talk

Those are hands down the best post-rock bands out there. They're vaguely similar to Explosions in the Sky and G!Y!B!!E but much better.

:-\ at Rachels. The few songs I heard sounded like uninteresting classical music. Care to suggest a couple songs by them?

Now just hold the phone. I love some of those bands, but better than Godspeed? I think not.

Kage 06-11-2006 07:29 PM

@bucket: Wow, I'm listening to Magyar Possie's album We Carry You Over the Mountains, and wow. This is great.

That's just my personal opinion. You have to be in a certain mood when you listen to Godspeed, and you have to have a lot of time on your hands to get through Providence. Godspeed can be one of my favorite bands when I'm in the right mood but their music is extremely hard to listen to at points.
What is your email or AIM? petethecow@hotmail.com

I have Same same, but not Easily Misunderstood :(
I found same same, on soulseek, want me to upload Easily Misunderstood for ya?

dfcslings 06-12-2006 07:04 AM

if you are a fan of the genre look up these guys:

do make say think
red sparowes
pelican
isis
mono

not sure if they are all post rock/metal, this genre is really obscure, they sound like the other mentioned bands.

Kage 06-12-2006 10:21 AM

Each of those bands has been mentioned quite a few times. They're indeed really good, though.

I'm digging a band called Beacuse of Ghosts right now. Great three-piece Post Rock.

bucket 06-12-2006 04:46 PM
I found same same, on soulseek, want me to upload Easily Misunderstood for ya?
I can get it off of soulseek. A few months ago I couldn't find the full album on there. I shall check next time I get on. Thanks for the offer.

Right now I'm anxiously awaiting Red Sparowes' new album. It should be released in Aug/Sept. Based on the new song, it should sound very similar to At the Soundless Dawn, which is good. I hope they can figure out how to cut the pointless noise out of this album though. Such as the begining of Mechanical Sounds... and the end of The Sixth Extinction.

Nepenthe 06-12-2006 05:16 PM

I recently read an article about the Sixth Extinction, which is what Red Sparowes' At The Soundless Dawn is about, and I must say, that it is one of the most interesting topics ever. I'll post the link in a second.

Kage 06-12-2006 05:47 PM

Somehow the Red Sparowes made a a great lyrical topic without lyrics.

Nepenthe 06-12-2006 05:48 PM

Hahaha, my bad. You know what I meant though.

Kage 06-12-2006 05:49 PM
Based on the new song, it should sound very similar to At the Soundless Dawn
Eh, I notice a ton of difference, especially in the way instrumentation is used and the arragnements. Whereas all the songs ATSD were normally built around one theme, with many different instruments doing counter-melodies and harmonies, this new one is a lot more shifting and evolving.
Hahaha, my bad. You know what I meant though.
;). it's true, though, the concept of that album is fantastic.

sr800bkBassist 06-12-2006 06:02 PM
i wonder why its called post rock.. i dont see no rock in sigur ros. but of course theres beter response in the rock and metal forum than any other
it's supposed to imply that it's futuristic. as in, for the past 50 years we've been in the "rock" era, and post-rock is the next step.

by the way, i've heard Slint called Post-Rock, but they never seemed like it to me. just like a heavy band that thinks if they play really really slowly and randomly they'll be complex.

TojesDolan 06-12-2006 06:17 PM

There's this post rock band Austin TV, let me see if I can find some of their material and tell you how it was.

On a related note, I'm going to look for 65dysofstatic, I like the mixture of electronic music elements to the Post Rock element: "Retreat! Retreat!" is my favorite song.

Otherside 06-12-2006 06:29 PM

Post Rock used to be my favorite genre, and while I still love it, I don't listen to it as much anymore. Except for Sigur Ros, that is.

Nepenthe 06-12-2006 07:30 PM

So, anyone heard We Followed Tigers? I was whoring them out a couple weeks back on here. Probably my favorite Post Rock band.

I like Slint, but they're not my favorite by any means. They don't "sound" like Post Rock because they're more a part of the wave of bands that more literally fit the defintion of using rock instrumentation for things other than rock. Slint, Bark Psychosis, Tortoise, etc... had more to do with jazz fusion and/or electronica than the soaring, melancholy music we know as PR today.

BringHomeTheBacon 06-12-2006 07:55 PM

Anyone ever listen to Meanwhile, Back in Communist Russia...? I only know they're a post rock band whose name I like a lot. I'll have to find some songs.

Kage 06-12-2006 08:00 PM

I've heard of them, but I haven't listened to them. I'll check them out.

I'm listening to Magyar Posse, thanks to bucket. Great band.

My friend (Daven) introduced me to these guys....really awesome stuff :)

bucket 06-13-2006 07:21 PM

I introduced them to Daven.

And to whoever said something about Meanwhile, Back in Communist Russia, they are good. It's post-rock sprinkled with electronica. While there is no singing, a female speaks overtop the music.

reccommends.
