im not a big Stokres fan, but Juicebox is an awesome song. Ill check out the album sometime soon

Radiobass81 01-03-2006 01:35 PM

I really like the Strokes, but I haven't heard the new album yet.

Is This it? was great, and Room on fire, although not as consistant, had some great tunes (Reptilia!).

RollerQueen 01-03-2006 02:33 PM

Stoned New Yorkers sounding bored, singing about parties and sex. How innovative. I'll pass this time around after having been suckered in the last two albums that I eventually sold anyway.

RHCPaddict 01-03-2006 07:49 PM

It's officially out now. YAY!!!

MerDeNoms 01-03-2006 08:30 PM

Nick and Albert are the guitarists.. Fab is the drummer ;).

I just bought this cd today.. I must say, I am very impressed. I heard Juicebox, and I liked the new direction that they took with that. This CD shows them in a new light, not as minimalistic, more fancy guitar work, less monotonous drumming, better vocals, and as always, Nikolai is just a great, solid bassist. Vision of Division is a pretty good song :).

Yman 01-03-2006 08:40 PM

i picked it up today and i have to say i was really impressed. alot of of people thought the first song was really average, but it really caught my attention. the album itself is really a step forward for the strokes. some might not like the direction they are going, but they really did what i was hoping: move forward artistically, but keep their simplistic, signature style.

I really like the Strokes, and like this album. Not as good as room on fire, or is this it? But i think it will grow on me.

Tangy zizzle 01-04-2006 10:34 PM

Pitchfork basically trashed them.

http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/record-reviews/s/strokes/first-impressions-of-earth.shtml

I reckon the album cover looks alot like Aja by Steely Dan.

Kyle 01-05-2006 01:56 AM

^^The ltd edition album cover is sooo cool. You get little cards that you can slide in and choose which member of the band to be on the front, amazing.

/easilly amused

moderaterock222 01-05-2006 09:03 AM

If trashed = didn't really like it, then yes.

For once, I predict that my opinion of this album will be the same as their review.

Brewer14 01-07-2006 06:31 PM

My opinion about the Strokes will always be biased. I was hooked the first time I heard them. I've liked every album, hell, every song they've done. Same with the new album, which I picked up yesterday. I'll write a review for Sputnik later on tonight hopefully

Kyle 01-09-2006 12:37 PM

yeah, you're not aloud to do that.....

ComeDancing 01-20-2006 07:52 AM

****ing Awesome Album!! definately one of those albums that u gotta listen to a bit to get the hang of it but when you do its just as great as room on fire and is this it, if not better. In my opinion its one of those cds u dont really have to skip, songs stand out of course (vision of division and heart in a cage to name some) but you can go through the whole album and enjoy each song. in saying this people need to see past juicebox and have a listen to the rest of the cd, sure its a great song but its the single, its going to be . . . peace.

couldnt have said it better, they need to keep their sound, exactly right there man.

Iai 01-20-2006 10:50 AM

Mightily unimpressed by it, in the end.

Bartender 01-20-2006 11:02 AM

I've not heard the album, but I like the single. Kinda. Puts it one song ahead of their other two already, though.

Luxor 01-20-2006 11:20 AM

I'm downloading it right now. "Heart In A Cage" is pretty damn good, if you ask me.

spirit 01-20-2006 07:35 PM

I liked The Strokes to begin with. Not because everyone else did, though that helped bring them to my attention, but just 'cause I did. Perhaps I'm not hard to please, or perhaps I focus on the positive, either way. I had high hopes for this album, and I wasn't dissapointed. I heard Juicebox and You Only Live Once pre-album release, and was impressed by both, the latter seeming more typically "Strokes-ish" as defined by their earlier albums, whereas Juicebox seemed to move to a heavier kind of sound. When I did get the album, I honestly enjoyed every track. I had a feeling that Nick and Albert could play beyond what they were showing, and on this album, they showed a little more technicality in their guitar playing. Similarly, Fab's drum parts are more interesting than on the previous albums, whilst still serving the songs, to my particular delight, me being a drummer above all else. I also liked Juilan's voice being higher in the mix, something which the NME slated the album for in their review, but y'know, each to their own. And I know I haven't mentioned Nikolai, but he too seemed to be a bit busier at times, in keeping with the rest of the band. All in all, a thouroughly enjoyable album for me, if nobody else.

cap 01-20-2006 09:09 PM

I listened to it a couple of times over, got into a couple of songs but their playability died out quite quickly. Havn't listened to it for a couple of months now probably. Pretty boring record, though, I was never a fan of The Strokes previous work that much, I never really got heavily into them.

On another note Oasis - Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants once Little James has been deleted makes an ace album.

I Was A Kaleidoscope 01-20-2006 09:22 PM

It's alright.

bubbledeath 01-20-2006 10:28 PM

It sounds like they're stealing riffs from The Mars Volta at one point, but then again, I was never much a fan.

Aeaon 01-21-2006 10:36 AM

Sounds great so far. I'll be heading over to Best Buy soon.

Kyle 01-21-2006 01:31 PM
Havn't listened to it for a couple of months now probably..
see as it's been pout for 18 days.....you probably have.

I'm still liking this album, only acouple of tracks that I havn't really got into. Heart in a cage and Ize of the world are my current favorites. Seeing them live on the 3rd :D

It was leaked quite a bit before the release.

Pale-Folklore 01-22-2006 06:12 PM

my dad bought it right away (huge strokes fan) and despite all the negative reviews he loves it

i loved room on fire and is this it?, i'll definitly be listening to first impressions soon

Kyle 01-23-2006 03:05 AM
It was leaked quite a bit before the release.
Oh right as far as I was aware it only leaked about 2 weeks before. With Juicebox and You only live once leaking months before.

SlashHalen 03-30-2006 05:28 PM

In my opinion First Impressions is extremely different from Room on Fire (pretty good) and Is This It (amazing). Juicebox is very different from anyother song on the album, its very similar to soemthing off of Room on Fire and misleading to what First Impressions is like, It took me a few listens to really appreciate the album, Julians voice is showcased the best on this one and i think its pretty good album overall, jstu takes soem getting used to. Also im seeing them Tommrow!!!! YAY FOR ME!
