I wouldn't know half of the techniques i do, i would still be a pick player 100% of the time, and alot lot more.

I might never have discovered the likes of Wooten, Manring and Stu Hamm and I would not be at the Bass Institute, I'd be boring my arse off doing physics at uni... This forum has helped me discover music I wouldn't have been exposed to otherwise and that music helped to motivate me into being a better player.

I wouldn't have learnt about solo bassists, and the hardest basslines i ever would have played would be by Flea.

Doing homework.

Vascor 11-08-2005 12:31 PM

I'd be playing video games all the time, and my bass would be in the corner collecting dust

Musician Forums stole it.

There are pros and cons. On this site, I first heard about Sheehan (my main influence and favorite bassist), Jaco, Vic, and pretty much every solo bassist I know of. I've learned an insane amount of knowledge about gear as well. Also, consider this:

Morpcat introduced me to Sheehan. I bought a Vai DVD because he was on it. My guitarist saw the Vai DVD and proceeded to crap his pants. This inspired him to become a much better guitarist than he was...he went from Metallica to Dream Theater in about three months...and has introduced him to Satch, Malmsteen, Petrucci, etc.

So, the forum has influenced the rest of my band as well.

On the other hand, I'd practice more if I weren't on here so friggin' much!

So...where would I be? I'd probably be a little faster but not nearly as educated, and I'd probably be playing in a Metallica-esque band as opposed to our LTE-influenced prog-fusion.
