|
Do you consider Jet black crayon as ambient?
|

|
You laughin at me now?
|
And your purevolume link doesnt work.
|
Um I am a newb and I started posting cause I want to hear how to get into making ambient. I played drums and a little geetar before but this electronic stuff is new for me. I spent like 8 hours searching google how to get started and it doesnt seem like anyone will give advice like its a go do it and leave us the frack alone attitude. I came up with some software like reason, reaktor, pro tools and that seemed like the top contenders. This hobby seems like at least a 1500 dollar setup or so if you have a newer computer and only need the software, midi keyboard, and the device to record external sounds. If you can give any advice I would really dig it. :chug:

Ambient can be pretty cool to listen to sometimes, it's not my favorite genre though.
|
Boards of Canada and Brian Eno for me.
|
Ambient music that isn't all or mostly electronic is awesome.
|
boards of canada arent really ambient though, i think they run along the lines of idm more.
|
I was thinking of getting the blade runner soundtrack.
|
Ambient is one of my favorite genres. I hate to whore my **** out, but what the hell. I'm in an ambient band called SPORTS...you can check it out www.myspace.com/sports if you're interested.
As for some good ambient artists/albums: Growing - His Return Belong - October Language Robert Rich and Lustmord - Stalker Brian Eno - anything and everything, honestly, but Apollo is my personal favorite Fennesz - Hotel Paral.lel SUNN O))) & Boris - Altar Ulver - Lykantropen Themes and some more artist w/o particular albums: Lotus Eaters Tribes of Neurot Daniel Lanois Harold Budd Black Boned Angel Destructo Swarmbots |

yeah probably, they're cool though. |
dude man get some ishq i've only listened to one song and it rocks
|
i think carbon based lifeforms needs a mention
|
Two things:
1. Aphex Twin, Ulver, and Shpongle are top notch when it comes to "ambient" stylings. Also, the two collaborations between Biosphere and Higher Intelligence Agency are worth hearing before death. 2. Those three pieces of artwork on the first page are wicked sick. |
Anyone ever checked out Deaf Center? They're on the Type label which is always a good thing imo and make really good ambient/minimal music. Check: http://www.typerecords.com/releases/full.php?id=14
Y'all should check out some of the mixes (in the radio section) on that site as well, there's some really good ambient in those as well. |

Thanks for reminding me. I'd downloaded one of their cd's yesterday after reading that thread about them, but never got a chance to listen to it. :thumb: |
shpongle
Shpongle, Boards of Canada, and The Dust Brothers need mention here.
Shpongle are great. The little elements of Psy thrown into the world music and ambient mix... it WORKS. |

Lotus Eaters
Yes, Lotus Eaters! They are a project of Stephen O'Malley, from Sunn O))). I heard an mp3 from some record label's page a while ago and have been trying to find their album ever since. I dl'ed their first LP they released, "Alienist on a Pale Horse". |
What style of ambient is it? If it's simply a Sunn O))) mutation, then screw that.
Is it electronica-based or more just sonic experimentation or what? |
I found a site where you can get an mp3:
http://www.neurotrecordings.com/media.aspx It's not a drone doom type band - it's more relaxing with a mix of instruments and wierd electronic stuff |
It's definitely not ambient of the SUNN O))) variety; it's much more minimal, having some sparse guitar here and there and strange sounds deep in the mix. Aaron Turner of Isis is also involved.
