I like having a little ATDI and TMV every now and then. If I listen to them too much I probably won't give them a spin ever again.
|
What can I say without bias...
hmmm... I enjoy what he does, musically. "Tira me a las arañas" is an amazing song, and about his live performances, I think it's due to the overly-active vibe on-stage or whatever you want to call it. They put up a great show, but that's the cost it has for him to focus less on guitar playing and more on show making. He's alright. Mothing of his really impressed me until "L'via L'viazquez". At least the part that are "actual" song. |

Thats very disconcerting. |

Dude thats just sick! but i love him all the same |
Love him.
|
He was so much cooler in ATD-I.
|
I like him. I really enjoy TMV.
I never really got into ATD-I though. Not sure why. |
Love him. His guitar playing makes something harden in my pants.
just a nobody from a band no one knows about.
Yeah just this little band called at the drive in... they basically did nothing. |

actually, many of the solos on frances the mute were played by john frusciante

No, just those two. |
Atdi > Tmv
|
i like his style.
he's no god or virtuoso, but his style attracts my ear. |
i really like omar and pretty much anything he has been associated with (musically anyway). his style is just so wierd and original that it really makes me wanna hear where he's going with it
|
I likelike him. I haven't likeliked anyone since I was 13, but now I have that familiar, anxious, jumpy feeling again.

 Oh. My. Gawd. As far as Omar goes, I don't see him as a particularly spectacular guitarist, but his creativity makes up for it to make for an enjoyable string strummer. |
Musically - Solo album sucked, Frances was waaayy too ambitious, De-Loused was damm good, and for a punk band ATD-I had some seriously good and fresh guitars.
|
He's much too sloppy live. You dont notice it at first...but..well I have a live dvd of theirs and my God man. He just needs to stop "improvising" because sometimes it sounds like piss. You can be creative without being annoying, to be honest. I preferred him when he wasnt trying to break out unique solos.

I think he'll get the hang of it eventually, but your best bet is to not buy the next two albums just in case. I actually preferred his bizarre guitar melodies in songs such as "Drunkship of Lanterns" and "Eriatarka" than true solos from him. |
I'm a fan. I liked at the drive in and meant to check out mars volta for ages. Finally did and was really impressed. I like both the bands but love is a strong word.
|
lol hes wierd but he has such a unique sound and playing style, the tunes he comes up with are absolutley genius he is a massive inspiration to my playing aswell

That's what I mean in a way. He can kick out a decent groove I just think he's not quite at the level he thinks he is. I mean, it's good to practice new things, just not live. |
He's hit or miss live. I've seen him play tight as and then extremely sloppy in the span of an hour. It's hard to replicate that shit live.
|
No, just those two.
hahah. it's like rug burn. anyway, i like Omar. not my favorite guitarist, but he has got some skill, and his improvising is pretty good. I dunno what you guys are talking about. Maybe in 2003 it sucked. But if you go to one of the shows now he's vastly improved. |
his playing is technically good....but just not very pleasant to the ear! it's just too sloppy and continuous.

How can it be technically good yet sloppy and unpleasant to the ear? |

It could be technically good and unpleasant (which IMO it is), but you're right that the sloppy part doesn't fit in there. |
How can you hate him? He's a brilliant gitarrist.
|
So is John Petrucci, and I hate his ass.
