Hahahaha, that was amazing.

antiflagsetsfire 08-17-2005 05:43 PM

The Misifits didn't really bring anything new to the punk scene. Their music is rather generic just with a darker tone. The only song I really like by them is Saturday Night. Most of their other stuff is just boring crap.

Blashphemer! The Misfits heavily influenced hundreds of bands

squirreleater 08-17-2005 06:15 PM

i really wish that the Misfits ended when glenn left...i really think the new and middle misfits were totally different, and didnt deserve to be "the misfits"...i also think danzig is a great vocalist, which is why i reccomend his other bands...none of them are like the misfits...they are like slow and brooding... :\

you say slow and brooding as if that is a bad thing. Samhain > Danzig.

are you kidding? Danzig by far.

whiteminority 08-17-2005 07:27 PM

to hell with that samhain is better than danzig. not saying danzig is bad (one of my favorites) but samhain was much better.

No friggin ways man, The Misfits are a massive influence on the whole scene, just run up a search on all the new age punk bands who've covered their stuff. Everyone from Social Distortion to AFI have ripped off a Misfits song. And the dark/horror punk thing they started is my favourite subculture by far, everything my band writes is in some way inspired by the misfits. Although I will agree that Samhain are ****kicking, "All Murder, All Guts, All Fun" is a sweet song. Danzig are pretty good too, "Mother", "Am I Demon" and "13" are my personal favourites

RIP Ian Curtis 08-17-2005 08:52 PM

but I wouldn't bother with any Misfits album, none of them are solid good enough, just get the boxed set or steal it all off the internet to stop the poxy new lineup getting any cash.

RetiredAt21 08-18-2005 06:18 AM

"Descent" is my favorite Samhain song. Samhain are way better than the Misfits.

Bruce_Forsyth 08-18-2005 08:11 AM

I dont really get all the 'lets hate the new misfits' stuff, i've not seen the original lineup live so i can't compare properly, and obviously danzig was a better singer, but the new misfits are a fun band to watch, sure their not the greatest or most original, but if i was wanting original music all the time then i probably wouldn't listen to punk.

RIP Ian Curtis 08-18-2005 09:23 AM

fair point bruce. But you gotta admit that Jerry Only is a money grabbing arsehole. And being only 18 and living in Australia means that I never have, and probably never will see the misfits live...

i_am_zombie_jesus 08-18-2005 09:47 AM

Anoybody hear about Danzigs new album?

He's taking a bunch of Misfits songs and re doing them lounge style.

RIP Ian Curtis 08-18-2005 09:49 AM

I didn't know that was Danzig, I thought it was the Misfits? But yeah I heard about it, called "Fiend Club Lounge". Sounds cool, especially if you like Richard Cheese
Blashphemer! The Misfits heavily influenced hundreds of bands
like who?

RetiredAt21 08-18-2005 03:49 PM

AFI, Metallica, Samhain, etc...

whiteminority 08-18-2005 04:40 PM

Slayer, Slipknot, and even those bastards Blink-182 were influenced by the Misfits.

RetiredAt21 08-18-2005 05:02 PM

Samhain being the best out of those. Oh, I forgot about Son of Sam. Also a great band. I wish they'd put out another album, that'd be sweet.

antiflagsetsfire 08-18-2005 07:53 PM
Slayer, Slipknot, and even those bastards Blink-182 were influenced by the Misfits.
Then it would have been better for the misfits to not have existed.

RIP Ian Curtis 08-18-2005 10:29 PM

following that line of reasoning it would have been better for Iggy Pop not to have been born because if it wasn't for him there wouldn't be punk and thus there wouldn't be pop-punk. you can't blame people for who they influence

AIRIC 08-18-2005 10:45 PM

American Psycho>Static Age

Graves>Danzig.

I can take rocks thrown at me, fuckers.

RIP Ian Curtis 08-18-2005 10:49 PM

*throws bricks*

nah you're about right I suppose. I just download all of my misfits, so I don't particularly care about albums, I just make compilations of all the songs I happen to like.

RetiredAt21 08-18-2005 11:49 PM

Actually,

Danzig>>>>>>>>>Graves

By far.

I_AM_MEXICAN 08-18-2005 11:51 PM

word

Steerpike 08-19-2005 12:41 AM

I wonder how many people are saying "Danzig>Graves" just to sound cool.

I really understand why everyone has to be so stuck up about this. Admit it, Graves is a very talented vocalist. Like him or not, the man can sing. And his style really brought out the 50's rock influence in the band's music, which I like.

As much as I love Danzig, he's human as well, and has made some bad albums himself. I really believe that a lot of people are just glorifying him and dissing Graves to sound more tr00... or whatever the hell it is punks call it. I don't know, I'm a metalhead.

RIP Ian Curtis 08-19-2005 12:43 AM

yay for steerpike. i'd agree with the 50's rock influence thing, that is something i dig heavilly in the misfits. And who cares if Graves isn't a screaming leftwing hippie, Johnny Ramone was a republican party member all his life, it's not like the misfits or the ramones ever really pushed a politcal idea

Steerpike 08-19-2005 12:46 AM

I think Graves' personal politics is only part of it. Truth is, it seems a lot of people dismiss Graves as inferior for the sole fact that he's not the original singer.

I've seen a lot of similar crap in R&M as well, and it's all the same bullshit reasoning. People are just too married to the diea of a particular line-up, and blind themselves to the virtues of another.

RetiredAt21 08-19-2005 12:47 AM

I think Danzig sucks for the most part, but his stuff with the Misfits is a million times better than what Graves did with the Misfits. I doubt anyone is saying it "to be cool."

Steerpike 08-19-2005 12:56 AM
I doubt anyone is saying it "to be cool."
Don't be too quick on that. Remember that stupidity is ubiquitous and never discriminates. Punks, rockers, metalheads, ska fans, blues hipsters, jazz junkies... No matter what genre you look into, there's always someone who's going to make dumbass remarks to sound more competent and "pure."

RetiredAt21 08-19-2005 12:57 AM

Well, mostly everyone agrees that the Misfits with Danzig were way better than the Misfits with Graves. With Graves, they weren't really punk anymore, they were on the verge of metal.
