i think hes reffering to mine. and truthfully i dont care if you think that my avatar is lame. and i bet bassist in blues cover bands use effects, such as compressors. and to A7X, i wasnt aware that they made a bass whammy, how much do they run for?
i guess if you consider a compressor an "effect". you might bet that bassists in blues cover bands don't use effects but i know because I've seen lots of them play. Blues guys usually go for the unmolested tone from their axes, usually fenders. the older the better. as a matter of fact i saw a blues band last night and the bassist played a fender p-bass with a Trace Elliott combo. no effects just a clean ballsy bass tone that cut through and complimented the guitar perfect. you can go ahead and disrespect the leader of my country over the interweb, but if you did that in front of me in person you would bleed. have a nice day, sonny. |
All I run is a Tech 21 Bass Driver DI. Great investment, can give you tones ranging from slight overdrive...like a tube amp starting to get pushed hard, to balls to the wall crunch. Can function as a stomp box or a pre-amp. Overall just a real asskicking piece of gear.
I just bought one. I use: -DOD Octoplus Octaver -Old Ibanez Delay pedal -Russian Big Muff, sometimes |
HAHA don't sell your bass whammy! they just go up and up in price, i heard it tracked bad.

He's the leader of your country? Country before self, if he's anything, he's the leader of A country. Not yours. His actions affect far more people than you, and they have the right to their expression about it. Being president is the same thing as being disrespected, and it's been that way since the Revolution of 1800, when the parties changed power for the first time. Personally, I think his avatar's hilarious, and though I respect our president in many ways, anyone who can't create coherent sentences consistently is asking for ridicule. As for the topic, there are thousands of blues bassists who use effects, from bass exciters to flanges to chorus. Blues is a very very expressive genre, and while some people go for the pure stuff, there is still a massive amount of people who are fans of effects. As for your live experiences, they amount to naught. It could be a trend in your area, or perhaps the bassists in question are traditional. Or it could just be a matter of when and where you saw them... sometimes I avoid using effects during gigs that require quick setup/takedown, or gigs that are in a very sterile environment when I don't have time for a soundcheck. The "cleanest" style would likely be soul and gospel. |

That kind of attitude is exactly what America doesn't need. I have no respect for Bush, and I don't expect anyone else to simply because he happens to be President. |

Oh. Well. We'll just pretend he's dead. |
Wow, that is good. I hate how certain people stick up for something just because they think it's theres.
I have a Line 6 Uber Metal which I like. Well all I have to say is I have a BP200 and it sucks. I don't have a hick president. (Yay) |

Well all I have to say is I have a BP200 and it sucks.
You think the BP200 sucks??? I used to own one before i got a decent amp and i found it excellent for making a basic setup sound a lot better, and a lot of the effects were really cool. As for my effects, i own: EH USA Big Muff Boss ODB-3 Boss CL-10 (Half rack compressor, limiter and noise gate) Tech 21 Sansamp Bass Driver DI Morley Power Wah Fuzz (original 70s series) |
Heaps of blues bassists use effects. And the tone from their bass? Psh, most are running through old tube amps and the like.
|
Hey, dude who was asking about the grilled cheese?
well it sucks because of how its built, i mean it sounds ok but its made a fairly flimsy piece of plastic, and it was my fisrt pedal so i wasnt very experienced and i stamped on it hard and well the way its made, it bent the circuit board inside making it unreliable, its ok if u want a lil fuzz but not the greatest thing, however the new danelectro range the 'Fab' pedals are very good quality for the money, My friend just bought one for £15 and it has a nice tone of metal distorstion. although again its made from plastic. but hey! |
i dont mind pedals i though i wouldnt use anything live apart from a tuner pedal or an a/b pedal if im using 2 basses because i dont like effects in punk songs it ruins it imho
|
wah sounds so nice on bass though, you should try it.

This is a bass guitar forum, lets keep politics out of it, 'sonny'. But since you had to bring it up, Bush sucks. |
Pedals are great, best fun there is. I have about 11 and it will soon be 12. I want to have a really big collection, to play around with.

I've never played a real gig that didn't sound check. i think i would refuse to play so as not to sound like crap. apparently your not around blues players very much or you would know that the vast majority are aficionado's who don't like any thing other than the status-quo. fender strat or tele, tube amp clean and dirty, maybe a little distortion if they're feeling real brave. don't know where you are or care but thats whats been my experience. oh, and worepigs, you can call me gramps all you want, doesn't change the fact that i can out rock you and most of the other young uns on here. and i'm from Wisconsin too. so. |
I currently just have the distorted channel on my preamp, if that counts. However, I want to add these to my arsenal:
Morley Mark Tremonti Power Wah Morley Steve Vai Little Alligator Volume Pedal Eventide Eclipse (Chorus, Flange, Harmonizer) |

as i got used to the distorted sound of my old amp at its limits (got a new one today :)), and my new amp remains quite clean at any volume i think im going to buy some distortion pedal...
i kinda like distortion, wah and the not too much artificial sounding effects... brr i hate that bush sucks stuff.. although i dont agree with american policy and although i dont think bush is a good president - it fukking annoys me if bands get political in the way many bands are doing atm... |

whatever.
Line 6 all the way. :p |

How is that mature? He doesn't like Bush, but he doesn't like it when bands speak out against him? |
