Well the my favorite song by them is The Days Of The Phoenix.

Jersey's Best Dancer 06-14-2005 01:23 PM
Don't care what anyone says, Sing The Sorrow was such an awesome cd.
I didn't like Sing the Sorrow too much, a couple songs are good. I like your avatar. I'm wearing a champion shirt right now.

OI! to the World! 06-14-2005 01:40 PM

I only like Answer That....

AIRIC 06-14-2005 01:42 PM

They're so-so. Some good singles.

Let's Chop Cats! 06-14-2005 01:43 PM

All Hallows EP is their best release. Black Sails is the best full length.

Dextomethorphan 06-14-2005 02:07 PM

Are they really straight edge? They don't sound like most bands that are.

Let's Chop Cats! 06-14-2005 02:16 PM

Some members are. Since when do all straight edge bands sound the same?

Tjebby 06-14-2005 02:17 PM

Isnt straight edge a belief?

Let's Chop Cats! 06-14-2005 02:20 PM

Yes, just like christianity and judaism.

persistenceofresistance 06-14-2005 02:34 PM

AFI is a pretty good band. I listen to them. I admit it. I pull out Black Sails In The SUnset and The Art Of Drowning and sing along in the shower.

Sleeper 06-14-2005 02:35 PM

I know Davey is a straight edge, He has the markings on his hand in The Leaving Part 2 video.

Dextomethorphan 06-14-2005 04:10 PM
Since when do all straight edge bands sound the same?
They don't have to, but they often tend to. At least from what I've listened to, not saying it all osunds the same.

Sleeper 06-14-2005 05:15 PM

Ive never heard of any edge bands.

Rise Me Up 06-14-2005 05:15 PM

Minor Threat

RetiredAt21 06-14-2005 05:19 PM

The All Hollow's EP was their best in my humble opinion. I liked The Art Of Drowning too, but there were some seriously crappy songs on that CD.

Sleeper 06-14-2005 06:54 PM

The songs i really like off Drowning are, 6 to 8, Days of the phoenix, Morning star.

AIRIC 06-14-2005 07:02 PM
Minor Threat
Are you sure they're actually edge though?

Brain Toad 06-14-2005 07:19 PM

AFI is ok, I like some songs, but otherwise they are kind of meh.

Sleeper 06-14-2005 07:26 PM
Are you sure they're actually edge though?
Alot of people i know that are 'Straight Edge' like that band.

Let's Chop Cats! 06-14-2005 07:27 PM

So what are the current rumors on the new album?

AIRIC 06-14-2005 07:28 PM
Alot of people i know that are 'Straight Edge' like that band.
They started the movement with their song 'straight edge', i'm pretty sure the entire thing was a joke though.

south_guitar 06-14-2005 07:29 PM

AFI's great, one of my favorite bands. I can't say that I like the way their music is going right now, though. I own all of their full-length albums, and I think Black Sails in the Sunset and Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes are their best releases. Sing the Sorrow was good, but its a really moody album and I can only enjoy it when I'm in the right mood.
So what are the current rumors on the new album?
I haven't heard much other than they are definetely in the studio recording it right now. Some are saying that they went in months ago, some are saying that they went in a few weeks ago. The album isn't expected until next year sometime.

El_Shiznit 06-14-2005 11:43 PM

Got some catching up to do. =/
They were okay/good til they sold out.

And by 'sold out' I mean changed their sound to get on MTV, made music videos, signed a major label for money and raised ticket prices for their shows.
I don't get how they did. I think Sing The Sorrow seemed like a natural progression for the band after The Art Of Drowning. They changed plenty of times during the course of their existence without trying to be on MTV. Plenty of bands I bet you listen to make music videos. They signed to a major label because Dexter of Nitro Records told them that they couldn't do much more for the band than they had done in the past, being that Nitro is an indie label. Dexter suggested they leave Nitro. I don't know about ticket prices as I have never seen them live. But that's what happens when you are on a major.
I remember El_Shizzy did a excellent AFI thread a while ago.
Thank you. :)
Are they really straight edge? They don't sound like most bands that are.
Davey and Jade are the only edge members in the band.
So what are the current rumors on the new album?
Nothing new has come out in a while, but last I heard (which was a few months ago) they had a LOT of songs together, but not yet recorded. They were in the studio at the time though.
They started the movement with their song 'straight edge', i'm pretty sure the entire thing was a joke though.
Haha, no Ian really claimed edge. But it wasn't really a movement 'til him. He really didn't smoke, drink, or f'uck. Not sure about nowadays although I know he doesn't claim edge anymore. But I've seen an interview with him, so he was serious about it. He really walked the walk.

I think that about does it.

AFI is coming up next in my playlist with my second favorite song of theirs, "The Boy Who Destroyed The World".

And ummm, my thoughts? If you can't tell, I am in love with this band. Not the best thing to happen to punk by any means, but they are my favorite band. Words cannot describe all that owns about this band in my mind.

Sleeper 06-14-2005 11:47 PM

I downloaded some stuff off the Haloween EP, I still would rather buy it. I listened to Fall Children and The Boy Who Destroyed The World.

Asharak 06-15-2005 04:33 AM

im a pretty big fan of AFI, but i wouldnt call them punk, theyre older stuff maybe, but definatley not anything after a fire inside ep. im actually a member of the Despair Faction (thier official fanclub), i only joined to get the rad package. with thier next album apparently Adam is tracking drums right now. I have all thier cds, but i dont have any of their vynals. My favorite albums are Answer that and Shut your mouth, im not really into Sing the Sorrow, its a good album, but nowhere near as good as thier older stuff. If anyone wants to join an un-official afi forum heres the url: www.cruisecontrolforums.tk

also im a newbie to this board, so hi everyone.

id like to finish by saying Hunter is the raddest member.

fatwreckpunk 06-15-2005 05:25 AM

i think they are a good band, used to be much beter than they are now, anyone know of any uk tour dates yet ?

cheeser_1 06-15-2005 08:28 AM
So what are the current rumors on the new album?
i am under the impression they're recording alot of tracks that they wrote for sing the sorrow that didn't get on the album. they wrote something like 70 songs at that point, so there's about 55 left over. i'm not sure if they're also writing new ones too. what direction they go in though, i can't say.

Interstate 06-15-2005 09:02 AM

I have heard a few songs from other albums which are good. I only have Sing The Sorrow which is pretty good.

AnAmericanParadox 06-15-2005 10:04 AM

I enjoyed everything except sing the sorrow.

Rancid Dan 06-15-2005 11:21 AM

I have Sing the sorow, Shut your mouth and open your eyes, very proud of ya and Black sails in the sunset.

Sing the sorrow is my favourite...
