Yea from what I've heard mirrors are ESSENTIAL in learning good technique, unfortuneately I don't have the space for one either, so I just try to imagine what I look like as I'm play. Also try to smile a lot, if your smiling the audience is going to think that everything you are doing looks effortless, at least thats what I like to think :O

Jomofo 06-07-2005 05:11 PM

Rock solid drumming, with some kick *ss grooves. Very very good. :thumb:

RockStar 11-19-2005 10:58 AM

very good but what do you have against your main snare :(

[Fonya] 11-19-2005 11:37 AM

Nice playing and great grooves. I like your cymbals and the chinas.

Plan B. 11-19-2005 12:18 PM

Resurrected from the dead!

I had just gotten a new snare, and I was so psyched on it that I just kept using it for everything, haha.

And thanks, I love my Chinas too!

trysthedrummer 11-19-2005 12:21 PM

Ok those other posts on page weren't me, but let me just say that was ace!

Your the funky groove king. Nice cowbell parts too! Kit's great! Setup is great!

I Liked it :thumb:

O Im really sure I've seen you do a video in the past and put it up here, and that was cool too.

rockindrummer 11-19-2005 12:30 PM

Very nice playing man, you have a great groove. That was really nice to listen to, be sure to post audio more often.

Murd_666 11-19-2005 12:30 PM

whats the specs on that beaut? Lovely playing by the way.

DxRocker 11-19-2005 12:39 PM

dayum

that was neat

MeaninglessPhoto 11-19-2005 05:59 PM

dude is that an Oriental china?

FockerTheLopper 11-19-2005 06:13 PM

Isn't the superstar an entry level kit?

On a seperate and much better note... Wow is all I have to say, at first I didn't like it too much I'm not a fan of the breaking then starting but when it got flowing it was amazing, I love that cowbell groove, man, AMAZING looked real smooth too, that is great.

mooffy 11-19-2005 06:15 PM

that cowbell was HOT.

Jezen 11-19-2005 07:13 PM

I'm glad this thread was resurrected. This is honestly one of my favourite videos of all time, and Plan B is a big influence on me.

Keep with it bro! :thumb:

moogoogaipan 11-19-2005 07:33 PM

this is the first i've seen of this thread. That was a good video...I enjoyed the timbale-esque grooves.

I have to say though...your left hand traditional was making my hand hurt. The way you held it vertical from the top look like it makes a lot extraneous motion... but it's music...a sound is what matters... it just looks so painful.

puppet.master 11-19-2005 07:36 PM

damn good video man

Really? I found that his right hand was the one putting me off.. haha.

Good playing but he/you raise(s) his/your right elbow up high, which I don't suppose is such a terrible thing, just makes me feel awkward.

Jezen 11-19-2005 08:01 PM

That's funny, because when he plays it relaxes me and I really feel the groove. Everything is so smooth. Shhhhh......

moogoogaipan 11-19-2005 08:03 PM

^^^maybe both of his hands are in need of technique reshaping. Who knows... i've decided to quit being so strict about technique since most master classes i've attended have said that it's all about sound..not about technique.... unless of course you're going to damage something....

Mista Bob 11-19-2005 09:23 PM

Wow, great video! Very nice playing.

What sorta snare were you using in that video? I love the sound of it. Similar to what sorta sound I wanna go for (I'm currently snare shopping).
Oh and how do you have it tuned?

Plan B. 11-19-2005 10:07 PM

Chinas are 16" AAX and a 20" A Custom on my left.

http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=348074

Here's an old thread with some pictures of the kit, and how I had it set up at the time. I don't think the cymbal set up was the same though, the HHX was probably a Vault, and there was also a big A Custom Projection crash on the right.

The main snare is a 5.5x14 Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute w/ Nouveau lugs, it has a Evans Genera with the built it muffling ring. Tuned medium/loose, with snares cranked tight for sensitivity. Note the snares were off for about half the video though, haha. The aux. snare is the one that came with the kit, I think it's a 5x14, with a coated single ply head on it, can't tell you much more about it because I don't have it anymore. But it's definately tuned quite high, I wanted a big contrast between the two despite their similar sizes.

About the technique, I haven't watched the video in a long time, but I'll review it tomorrow after practice.

Yeah, I think a lot of people think that what is good for them is good for everyone but that may (and most likely isn't) the case. My drum teacher's pretty cool with that because he lets me find my own way sort of, as long as it's effective and not bad.

I was just saying that this video made me personally feel a little awkard, but that's because I'm a bit of a lazy drummer. Haha.

[UEAK]Clowd 11-19-2005 11:38 PM
Very nice! It's always great to see a fellow traditional gripper!

I just swiped that cowbell groove... thanks for that!

The only advice I would have (if you're not already doing it) is to get a huge mirror and put it directly in front of your kit. It's surprising how quickly you can fix "the look" of your playing, not to mention enforce good technique. I think a lot of us have these weird little habits (not you specifically) that we don't even know that we do... like I used to play with my mouth hanging open, and make these constipated faces during fast stuff. Once I got a mirror, the problem fixed itself.
LOL! Thank god I'm not the only one.

Half Life 11-20-2005 12:17 AM

Wow man that was great. It's a bitch to watch with this dialup but I still took a peak. Your playing on that Aux. snare really makes me want to get off my *** and buy that PDP one I had my eye on so long. Great stuff :thumb:

filth and fury 11-20-2005 02:04 AM

really great man, you gots to tab that cowbell groove.

Tim 11-20-2005 02:28 AM

Very awesome. What kind of cowbell is that? or other bell is that

cjcdrums 11-20-2005 02:31 AM
Clowd']LOL! Thank god I'm not the only one.
LOL... Only one of what?

Jezen 11-20-2005 02:39 AM
really great man, you gots to tab that cowbell groove.
Yeah I have asked him the same thing before. I love that groove!
LOL... Only one of what?
Only person to make retarded faces I think.

cjcdrums 11-20-2005 02:43 AM

Heh heh... Thank god for mirrors.

That's all I've got to say. :D

RichHunt 11-20-2005 03:24 AM

I played almost the entire day of drums at church (playing at church and then a practice for the carols night coming up in a few weeks) in traditional grip.

Fun! I'm not as good at it as you are though, but getting better! Love Traditional grip, just feels cool.

TreMitchell14 11-20-2005 03:30 AM

That was great. I usually hate chinas but you made them sound good.
