I must say that gives me a lot of hope.
He is a good bassist and a smart guy.. he's just a shit-stirrer. I trust his opinion on basses.

i've always like how shecters basses did have to high action like other basses, but i played one at a music shop and the action was so low that notes on the first fret did work at all. I hope it was something wrong with that individiual bass and not the entire design.

PsychoTronn 02-16-2007 03:42 AM

thanks for the review, nice bass

CombatRock 02-17-2007 09:24 PM

As long as the Pickups go, they are the same between the Stuido, Elite and Custom, am i right?

Im on the verge of purchasing the Custom 5. From this review it seems like all the Siletteos are solids buys.

The problem with my Elite 5 is the pre-amp. It burned out after 7 months, and my local guitar repair guy had to order a new one directly from Schecter.
The Schecter rep he spoke with seemed to acknowledge there have been problems with it and it's covered under warranty. Hopefully the one they sent doesn't have problems.
-How's the action on it? Are there any dead notes anywhere?
The action is great as low as you could ever want or as hight as you like.It comes from the factory ready to go.
-Is the fretwork any good? I've played too many $500+ Ibanez in new condition with undressed frets that cut into your fingers
This is not a Ibanez, what it is, is a very well made bass that wont empty your pockets. IMHO to find a bass equal to this you would have to buy a Spector, and we all know wht that will cost.
--You mentioned the weight, but is it balanced? Will the headstock dive towards the floor if you're not paying attention to it?

-How's the Korean manufacturing...? Any visible glue seams anywhere?
:thumb:
I own the Elite5 that is a heavier bass than this bass, I have played this bass on a set, and no there is no headstock dive. As for Visible glue none seen, this is a outstanding axe at any price. If you want the quality bass, but don't want one of these be prepared to spend $1000.00 more

Very nice basses, chunky, growly tone. The bassist in my band plays one.

I got the 6 about a month ago, had to import it from the US which took ages..but it's worth, I love it.

I assume the two are going be the same apart from stringness so my few pennies:

Construction is hardcore, most solid bass I've ever played, not too heavy either. HOWEVER, the blend knob is very stiff in the middle 50%, with only the last 1/4 in each direction being smooth, which is annoying as it makes it difficult to feel the little resistance to let you know it's in the mid point, but it's not a major problem and probably only limited to mine.

Tones: huge variety, 18v preamp really shines through, only thing that comes up as an issue here with the wide variety is that you'll really need to try and remember where the dials go in case they get moved (which they inevitably will).

I'm currently having an issue with this and my sansamp, where the sansamp is managing to suck most of the growl out resulting in a weird hi-fi sorta sound with the mid up, but I'm working on it.

Back to the bass :P

Action great, scale great, 6er takes a bit of getting used to blahblahblah all that jazz.

EXCELLENT bass for the price (I paid the equivalent of £500 including shipping and custom fees, which is a lot less than the £645 Soundcontrol wanted to charge me for a Warwick rockbass)

I'd put this at least level with my Stingray in terms of quality and only slightly below my Yamaha TRB1005 (which I think I got the best one ever made, so it doesn't really count).

If you're thinking about getting a Schecter Studio, you need to be buying it.

5/5

One question, since it already has an 18v preamp, if i wanted to change the HZ's to active EMG's, where would I put the extra battery?

WhoDidTheElf 08-28-2007 11:57 AM

From what I've heard about it from EMG, it would run off that battery pack.

The preamp is active... I don't see how changing the pickups would require another battery

WhoDidTheElf 09-28-2007 12:39 PM

Since the pickups went from passive to active he was wondering if they needed another battery.

There's no such thing as active pickups, just active circuitry/preamps

iirc

WhoDidTheElf 01-08-2008 08:13 PM

Err I think EMG makes active pickups, and passive pickups, along with active pre amp.

amnestyslowend 01-15-2008 08:36 PM

Their is such thing as active pickups. They are electromagnets like an average pickup but with a stronger pull and an eq shape per determined by EMG.

The HZ series is passive while the standard EMG is active and dose require a batter. As for were to put it. You could route a new batter box or try and fit it in the cavity. But it is rather pointless to put an all active setup with an 18 volt pre amp it already has great headroom.

amnestyslowend 01-15-2008 08:38 PM

oh and I have played one and I don't like the EMG setup. Its to sterile for me and the color is horrible imo. It dose play rather well though.:thumb:
