I like my Rap, so it's nice to see it pop up on the occasion. Personally I would have used different songs for 2Pac and Nas, but that's just a matter of opinion. Adding Edan aswell! very nice.

I was suprised to see no Jurassic 5 in there.
I cannot even stand the sight of that guy.
couldn't have said it better myself, i have just recently gotten into rap, personal favourites being Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Dead Prez, and Nas, but there is a lot of good rap out there, just that mainstream rap is giving it a bad name

I was going to put some in, but uploading all of those songs was taking long enough as it was.

I used to like some rap and still do.... But now that the mainstream is all urban its really went down, like monica on clinton down! Its all about the money, use of vulgur language and exploitation of women is used to luer young unsuspecting listeners and steal their dollars.. Also "gangster" rap as they so call it, pretending your from the streets, and got your street cred to be "cool" Is all a scam its part of the scam.. Just like Lil John he was a rich boy who went to college, but whos to differ... I can only listen to the old stuff I orginaly listened to any new rap that comes out I block out..

anyone who doesn't should be killed... seriously...

Dancin' Man 05-10-2005 05:23 AM

Awesome. These were supposed to be all R&M but people were so unwilling to write them I have been letting others come in in hopes that it will catch on as something to do.

Aesop Rock and Nas are probably my two favorite rappers right now. East coast must be my thing.

Otherside 05-10-2005 05:42 AM

Here's some NWA:

Adam Jones is GOD 05-10-2005 05:48 AM

I find the odd rap song that i like, but a lot of it just doesnt strike a chord with me.

However, i am a sucker for turntable artists. Thats where the majority of my hip hop attention goes to.

Dancin' Man 05-10-2005 08:19 AM

Everyone should check out Madlib. Rap without rap. It's iunstrumental beats but they are very, very cool. I'll upload some when I get home.

3rdplanet 05-10-2005 08:28 AM

I like Atmosphere and Non Propethes, The Roots are **** good as well.

I dig Trip-Hop much more though.

Don't know if that is related at all, well Trip-Hop does have a founding in Rap/Hip-Hop.
no problem :thumb:

for all of you intrested here's a song from The Roots.. it's off Illadeph Half Life.. probably their best album in my opinion... and this is a good song...

enjoy ;)
The roots are excellent in every way possible, i will second this one. I am also glad that rap is the featured genre this time, it does get a lot of negative hype because of the popular artists around right now (hmm, sounds like metal's problem too ;) ) But even in the whole mainstream of rap today, i would like to mention that outkast gets shunned a bit, even though its quality as well.

However, you can't beat the classics like NWA and Public Enemy.

Some rap, even if it is very cheezy and corny can be entertaining, like the Digital Underground and more notably their only really well known song The Humpty Dance, if i can find the cd that has a bunch of DU stuff burned to it i have lying around here, ill upload it. Although intellegent rap is always the best stuff, some of the other stuff can still be quite entertaining.

Arucard 05-10-2005 09:17 AM

Hyrogliphics are my faverouiter rap act, closely followed by Aesop Rock. Even though Lil John is Gangster Rap, i like him alot.

NJMetalMeister 05-10-2005 09:51 AM

hell yeah, i consider lil jon to be like the death metal equivalent of rap. i mean after all there is double bass drum parts in put yo hood up

Steerpike 05-10-2005 10:01 AM

I've been meaning to give rap a chance this summer. My family isn't exactly the biggest fan of it. Mostly because they haven't heard anything to convince them it's any different from the MTV bull****.

I'll download a few of those tracks when I get back from lunch.

Kosta 05-10-2005 10:18 AM

I listened to nothing but hip-hop untill I was 14. My favorites include Tha Alkaholiks, Quasimoto, Lootpack, Mr Lif ,Digable Planets, A Tribe Called Quest, Edan, Deltron 3030, Hieroglyphics (I still wear my Third Eye vision shirt with pride), DJ Spinna, Shabaam Saadiq, Black Star, Cannibal Ox, EPMD, King Tee, Defari, Souls Of Mischief, Blackalicious, Rjd2, Aceyalone, The Demigodz, Declaime, Polyrythm Addicts, Apani B Fly Emcee, Zion I, Warcloud and the Wu-Tang classics.

Rap music kicks ***.
Can you define the difference between Hip-Hop and Rap for me?
Hip-hop is

1) the subculture.

2) the style of rap music that is often progressive, but, has a very old school approach to the music itself.
who doesn't :p
I don't. Slug is terrible.

Lil Jon is gangster rap? I beg to differ. He's crunk. The most horrible sub genre of them all.

Arucard 05-10-2005 10:23 AM

I didnt know Crunk existed.

Kosta 05-10-2005 10:25 AM

So I can, just, like, you know, post some cool recommendations? I'll probably edit this post with some cool Aceyalone.
