Sail To The Moon-Radiohead
|
Gary Jule's cover of "Mad World" by Tears for Fears (used in Donny Darko) is beautiful. Jules' voice turns the song into a listless reflection; his saddness swells, yet he remains reserved and distant.
I learned the song on piano, but my little sister's light-up casio keyboard doesn't quite do it justice. |
xiu xiu- walnut house

Smiths - "Asleep"
hmm.... Xiu Xiu - Asleep? |
+live+ - dance with you ("were the goddess finaly sleeps, in the lap of her lover")
goo-goo dolls - iris ("i'll bleed just to know youre alive") blink182 -adam song (agree with Left of Center). skunk anasi - brazen (wierd choice i know) smashing pumpkins - ava adore (its sad in a ironic way) 3doors down - kryptonite ( its a personal thing - break up with your love\r and listen ) |
I think that "god of wine" by Thirdeyeblind is pretty sad. :upset:
i agree...i also support your love of 3eb. people who still like them are awesome...like me :naughty: The Get up kids - "NewFound Mass" The Streets - "dry your eyes mate" Ben Folds Five - "evaporated" Staind - "excess baggage" Something Corporate - "Konstantine" Plain White T's - "a lonely september" Thousand Foot Crutch - "this is a call" New Amsterdams - "proceed with caution" Counting Crows - "have you seen me lately" Coldplay - "the scientist" the cure - "pictures of you" <<insert random Smiths or Elliot Smith single here>> and go ahead and bash me for: REM - "everybody hurts" Radiohead - "how to dissapear completely" Linkin Park - "my december" Puddle of Mudd - "blurry" and this country song always makes me cry like a b*tch with a skinned knee: Cyndi thompson - "what i really ment to say" and i'll have to say "adams song" by Blink is sad...exepcially the end of the verse with "please tell mom this was not her fault" |
Joe Strummer - Redemption Song
|
so many to choose from..
hmmm.. in no particular order.. (and some are a bit more melancholy and depressingly beautiful than sad...but the feelings they evoke or more or less the same, and each has brought me to tears at one point or another (and another, and another, and another heh)) -cat power - king rides by -elliot smith - between the bars -ugly casanova - cat faces -songs ohia - just be simple (one of the the live versions, MUCH more effective than the recorded one) -tori amos - hey jupiter -tori amos - here in my head -tori amos - I can't see new york (brings me to tears nearly every freaking time.. the opening piano, especially...kills me..) -tori amos - putting the damage on -tori amos - not the red baron -wilco - misunderstood and finally: -ani difranco - school night: what kind of scale compares the weight of beauties? the gravity of duties? or the ground speed of joy? tell me what kind of gauge can quantify elation? what kind of equation could I possibly employ? you'll never know, dear, just how much I loved you. you'll probably think this was just my big excuse. but I stand committed to a love that came before you and the fact that I adore you is just one of my truths. |

I fell in love with it (and michel gondry's video for it - WOW) before I had a chance to see donnie darko, and when that part came on.....MAN.. I don't think richard kelly could have did a better job making that scene(s) work with that song.. heavy, heavy stuff. so yeah.. I think that's gotta be in first place for me....with all the rest in very close tie for 2nd.. :) |
Joy Division - Atmosphere
Nine Inch Nails - Hurt The Smiths - Asleep I've got loads more, but those instantly come to mind for me. |
Nine Inch Nails - Hurt
I went to sleep last night with that song on repeat. I woke up and heard "What have I become?" and it really set the tempo for the day. Suicide's a great idea. |
John Mayer - Split Screen Sadness
|
Radiohead - Street Spirit. It's basically a montage of a bunch of depressing scenes.
Radiohead - Creep. But only really when it's acoustic. There are a bunch other which are sad to me, but this is all I can think of as universally sad right now... |
Interpol-Obstacle 1
Especially if you see the video, in which the band accidentally kills a girl at the end. |
Blur - good song
|
Another sad song I think is "Lullaby" by Lit
|
"Last Kiss" is a cover song; it was originally written by some guy who really did lose his girlfriend/wife in a car accident. It was the only song he ever wrote.
If I could rep you, I would. No one ever acknowledges that, always giving credit to PJ. Word. |
Definitely. The original is outstanding.
|
Almost every song by Elliott Smith.
For example; The Biggest Lie or Happiness (these lyrics are so without hope, it makes me sad :( ) |
Although every song by Smith is a depressing/saddening experience. I'd say King's Crossing, a summation of the state of the world and his life. Especially the line "Gi'me one reason not to do it"
|
Definately "No Distance Left To Run" or "Battery In Your Leg" by Blur They're so amazing but really sad at the same time
|
What about that song by straylight run, "E on prom night"
|
yeah that song is pretty good....not really sad, but it's good. The title is sad, cause unless you are ms. popular at the prom with the guy everyone wants to be with, Existensialism is a big issue on your mind. I drove home from prom with year at 2 am....all the windows down, just singing to some old 80's pop songs....it was lame, I know.
I'm gonna have to say Konstantine by Something Corporate or The Tide and Your Evil Soul by The Spill Canvas The Spill Canvas is an amazing band and everyone should listen to those two songs and then go and get the CD....or buy the CD first, you wont be saddened |
A lot of stuff by hte Smashing Pumpkins. I know people have mentioned them a few times already. I'm suprised no one has mentioned Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton, seeing as how it was written to his son who passed away. It always makes me think of my friend who died and I'll admit I sometimes almost cry when I hear it.
|
I got dumped three days before my senior prom. I spent prom night at work. At the time, the first verse of Mineral's "Parking Lot" and the whole of "Slower" and "If I Could" were playing through my mind. They're still excellent songs.
|
Jeff Buckley - Hallelulja (cover of leonard cohens that tonnes of people have done)
|
Joe Strummer/Johnny Cash - Redemption Song (originally Bob Marley)
Amazing version of that. I actually like it better than the original. Joy Division - She's Lost Control. Not really sad, but very dark. |
Hammerfall - Always will be
