Hmmmm, you could try to get a special exception, but you'd have to talk it over with the person who wants to regulate the voting thread.
And who would that be considering k.s.e will be gone for over 2 weeks?

A_Perfect_Sonnet 03-31-2005 11:51 PM

^-not bad

edit: To runamok: I wouldn't have the least bit of an idea.

no, not tomato soup. man, I really wish I hadn't deleted that.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 04-03-2005 10:15 AM

The search for a drummer is endless. We've already got songs made up on guitars, and all we need is a drummer for beats, and me to lay down some lyrics and vocals.

/Small town bands :(

Rushfan2112 04-03-2005 06:36 PM

I can almost relate, APS, my guitarist and I(drummer/lyrics) have been loking for a right bassist and rhythm guitar and singer and keyboardist (maybe someone somewhere can double up?!) for almost a year now. We can't find anyone with enough skill, dedication, or a mix of both that we like....

its like impossible to find a good player round these parts our age...
Tptal;;y. This talk is gettin stale. Let's rejuviatevate it. Go!!! No seriously. Rejuvenuation is neat.
Not as neat as Bananas in Pajamas. And that's a scientific fact.

Disco Dragon 04-03-2005 09:19 PM

Bananas in pajamas, are coming down the stairs...

A_Perfect_Sonnet 04-03-2005 10:15 PM

Great, now that song is kind of stuck in my head, except I don't know the words, so it's just repeating the first 2 lines.

Having good musicians in your band is important but its more important to find someone you can work with.

TIP: Do not try and start off with something terribly complicated stick to simple things and make them more complex as you get better alone and as a group.
You're a drummer don't try to show off (which is a thing drummers tend to do) using complex rhythm will make the bassists job harder which will also make the singers job harder.

Finding a vocalist, try and find a good one that writes lyrics as well, the vocalist will perform better when singing own lyrics, this has to do with the emotion put into the singing

Bassists also would love to show off with the speed of the fret hand, for a bassist its more important to get the rhythm right than the notes right.

Rhythm guitarist, find one with a unique sound this will make simple things interesting.

Its easy to find a good keyboard player, most of the can play Beethoven so dont worry about skill, of course you cant pick anyone of the street and ask him if hey wants to play keys in your band but you need someone with decent kit and a nice synth, this will beef up your sound or make it really soft and melodic.
with a kayboard player you can use polyphony in your band when you've advanced a bit.

Also a second vocalist is a very good idea but make sure it is the keyboard player or a guitarist because rhythm and vocals is on of the hardest combo's there are not many people that can unless you get a female bassist they can multitask (lol)

also last advice: make sure you have access to a big amp or PA system for the vocalist, if the vocalist can't hear him-/herself it will be out and it will sound bad and damage the vocal chords, and inadequate amps will blow by using a mic.

good luck these are things i found which helped me a lot, I'm the singer in a gothic death metal band we'll have a site up soon with mp3's on it.

again Good luck finding the members.

Very last bit of advice remove the words Instrumental section from your entry its stated in the rules that musical guidelines are not allowed

Disco Dragon 04-04-2005 07:47 PM

So........... what do you call a gay dinosaur?

A tyranna-sore-***.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 04-04-2005 08:59 PM

It seems overdone. I'll give it a D+, your delivery could've been better.

Rushfan2112 04-05-2005 02:42 PM

"You're a drummer don't try to show off (which is a thing drummers tend to do"
Well hmph! I've never been so insulted. lol

"Finding a vocalist, try and find a good one that writes lyrics as well" I think we've decided, ever since the beginning, that I get to do the lyrics...just a general rule my guitarist and I came up with, he writes the music, I write lyrics, the other people are there to play what we write...We figure the spirit of the songer will but just as good as a song that is covered...he didn't write those lyrics, but he can still sing them with passion.

AS far as the other stuff, it's all around almost exactly what I've been goin for, but we just can't find anybody...

I mean, we are looking for skill and personality thats workable, not one more than the other. We just can't find anyone...

"Very last bit of advice remove the words Instrumental section from your entry its stated in the rules that musical guidelines are not allowed"

Thanks a bunch on that one, i Dont remember seeing the thing about guidelines...and typically when I write something I put those things in just as kinda a reference as to where I am in the song...thanks a million and two-thirds there!

And thanks for the advice as well, anything helps at the stage were at...and that definatly will do some good, Ill gather my guitarist and have him read that post...

Necroses-bass 04-05-2005 03:04 PM

dude if the vocalist sing his own lyrics life will be easier, trust me, i'm a vocalist myself and find its easier using my own lyrics. normally u choose to cover a certain song which really fits you. and if you write something and get the rest to play it its not a gd idea, the rest will get bored of it after a while, it restricts artistic freedom. but its all up to u

Rushfan2112 04-05-2005 09:12 PM

well i mean, if they come up with ideas, we'll obviously hear them out, but as far as the leading creativity, its me and him...

as far as the singer thing goes, i don't really buy it, i know plenty of good bands that their singer didn't write the lyrics too...however I am (by no means!) a singer. I sound like, well, lets not go there, but it isnt good...

Corupt2057 04-06-2005 10:19 AM

where'd that come from..?
funny though..

Necroses-bass 04-06-2005 01:17 PM

if you write the lyrics have sum private time with the vocalist and really explain what effect youre trying to reach and what techniques u want him/her to use.

And about the leading creativity watch out with that it can really piss off the other band members, which is the case with my band, our new guitarist doesn't seem to understand the idea of gothic and has a really old skool approach. He does have amazing ideas though which i use a lot in my music.

Btw what style do u play (wrong question to ask since most bands dont want to fit in a specific scene anymore). so change of words, who are your influences.

Rushfan2112 04-06-2005 02:53 PM

Well, our influences kinda vary, me, being drummer and lyricist, have influences in Rush...Neil Peart has like, the perfect job back there...other bands I like are Styx, Boston, Scorpion...but we don't sound at all like Styx or Boston...

My guitarist has influces more in the sounds of our band....Sabbath, Floyd, Zepellin....

Though, a two piece isn't nearly as good as those bands obviously!

And as far as a conversation with the singer, yeah, I've already figured I'd need to do something like that when we get a singer. WE used to have a guy who said he would sing (he didn't), and I used to explain to him verse for verse what my lyrics meant...

Lyrics for me are a stress releiver when I write them, and a very important part of my contribution to the band...If I couldn't write those I just wouldn't feel I was giving the same contribution

and as far as the creativity department in our music, I don't write the music, so I really can't say if anything will change when we add more members. But they can have creative freedom just like him and I, I imagine...no restrictions or anything, just as a primary songwriter, it's my guitarist....yeah....

A_Perfect_Sonnet 04-06-2005 07:29 PM

If your vocalist or other members of your band want to help write lyrics, work with them, that way it becomes a bonding experience and will (cheesy, I know) bring you guys closer together as a group. A happier band plays better together.
