From your description, I think I'll like them. I can give you my official reveiw/ opinion once I download those tracks. I'm pretty excited because if I do like them, and a new album is coming out this year... well lets just say I don't think I've ever bought an album with all new material the year it came out (unless you count The Who Then and Now).

EDIT: okay, right now I'm on Never Learned, and so far, I like it pretty well. The riffing is fantastic, but I find the vocalists voice a little annoying. I was dissapointed it wasn't as bluesy as I had previously thought. The singers voice sounds a little too metal for the type of music they play, but the guitarist is absolutely phenominal. Perhaps more to come later.

I don't know. It was almost finished in February, just some vocal work left, so hopefully it'll be out soon.
Then hopefully they'll tour again. I missed them last time, but I'm assured (by a reliable source) that they put on a phenomenal live show and the band are all really nice guys.


I almost had another demo, but the source I was downloading from went offline. Further searches on Limewire only turned up my own files :-/

Ach they've all expired.

Magus' 3rd album, [i]Wolf's Return[/i] has been released, and I shall update my thread accordingly.
The entire album has a darker feel to it than than its predescors. The album also has more relation to doom in some places(as they are often labelled), but is by no means a doom record. It's pretty much a straight up metal record.
For some reason there also seems to be alot of filler tracks which are only a couple of minutes long. They hold the atmosphere of the album nicely, but are a bit useless other than that.
In general, the songs are alot longer and tend towards the epic side. THere's also a fair mix of slow and fast paced tracks.
Uh..The production is a bit better which is a result from their rising success. A few more styles are incorporated into this album; power metal and traditional folk influences.
I like the album alot, despite having only listened to it a few times. It's has most of the Magus elements present of the previous recordings, but is alot heavier.
Also, I think some people may find the vocals a bit less grating on this record.
