Ben is a more than worthy replacement.
|
Definetly.
|
The new bassist is definetly a good replacement but i just liked the old bassist's style better - Still cool though...
|
Count me in as a huge incufan. Mike is one of the best if not best guitarist that are still active. And their new dvd rocks my socks right off me feet. Good stuff.
|
The fact that you like incubus is cool, but you are an idiot.
alrite, ur cool im only stating my opinion about todays music. if u think punk guitarists are good then good for you. |
alrite go listen to ur ****ty music fag
okay |
thanks

i like incubus a lot pre-Crow Left Of The Murder. I liked there funk-metal sound, there new stuff sounds more indiepop-emoish to me. i bought the new cd listened to it like 2 or 3 times and gave it to my brother. I just prefered the funky kinda strange Incubus from Fungus Amongus.
|
Fungus Amongus is definately my favorite Incubus album at the moment.
|
easily, incubus is in the top 5 of mainstream bands out there!!!!
|
i keep hearing people say ACLTM is not funky or as good as previous albums. First of all their new bassist is way more funkier than their old bassists. Jose drums more groovier and funkier than ever before, and is flawless. singer and guitarist show their more mature songwriting and musician skills. Overall, ACLTM is better than any of their previous albums, its almost flawless.

"funky" ACLTM is not, at least in my book. I just dont feel the funk heh they gotta put some stank into it. Im not saying there new bassit isnt good but I too prefer Alex, he was and still is one of the main reasons i picked up a bass 5 years ago. |
i thought this was pretty funny...
"I began playing drums in 1990, pretty much when the band started to form. Before that I had been playing air drums for about two years and got pretty good. It was an impressive sight, and actually made me look like I knew how to play. I have never had any formal training in my 9 years of playing, which has its positives and negatives, but I think for the most part it’s been okay. Unfortunately discipline is not really a word I would associate with my drum playing. I learned how to play my instrument by studying my favorite musicians (Stuart Copeland, Tim Alexander, Chad Sexton, etc.) and by listening to many styles of music, which I believe is key to expanding your playing and technique. I basically would listen to my favorite bands and steal as much as I could from the drummer and incorporate it in my playing. So yes, I am a thief!" -Jose Pasillas on how he became a drummer |
yes incubus is freaking awesome!!!
i dont really like their songs that have all the weird noses and sounds and stuff, gives me a headache :upset: |

First of all, ACLOTM is not funky, not by any means. Ben Kenney tried steering away from that, as I read in an interview, because reproducing the same funky lines as the Incubus of old would him not putting his own mark on the music but being a fill-in for Dirk. Ben can play circles pretty much around anyone he chooses to; watch the Alive at Red Rocks DVD if you have any doubts. Jose's drumming: funkier? That's arguable, considering he probably did his craziest drumming on SCIENCE (Listen to "Calgone"). It's hard to put ACLOTM against other Incubus albums because they're all in logical progression from each one to the next, as well as distinctively different from the last. |
incubus sucks *** why are you wasting your time talking about them
|
just like you wasted your time posting against them?
anybody that thinks incubus sucks....see them live..or watch the dvd...it'll change your mind...unless your music taste reaaaaaaaaaally sucks |
Yeah they are even better live then on cd.. and the atmosphere at their concerts is awesome..
|
incubus is the way to go
|
just listen to brandons amazing vocals in drive, mikes awesome guitar playing in sick sad little world and the oddysey, chris' djing in battlestar scratchilactica.none of this could be achieved without a steady drum beat and sick bass lines. you cant really say the new bass players playing is less funky and hip hopish seeing how he was in a hip hop band.
i cant agree more |
you cant really say the new bass players playing is less funky and hip hopish seeing how he was in a hip hop band.
You can't automatically deduce that Kenney's going to be funkier or as funky as Dirk just because he was in a hip hop band. In fact, most of his bass lines on ACLOTM are rock-driven (listen to Megalomaniac, or Sick Sad Little World). |

You cant really decide which bass player is more funkier or more rock driven yet.. you have to let kenney sink in a little with the band untill you can really compare the two.. |
everyone always talks how bands like incubus abandon there old sounds of science for diffferent types of music.
but fair enough i reckon---theve already made the awesome album of science they dont need to keep pumping out the same old stuff so they try something new. and i reckon it paid off in everyone of their albums even though i must say make yourself was my favourite. awesome band |

Um....no. Seriously, are you sure you were listening to ACLOTM? Because Ben's basslines don't really have a funky sound to them at all....certainly not anywhere near as funky as Dirk's stuff on Are You In, Battlestar, and pretty much everything else pre-Make Yourself. This isn't to take anything away from Ben...guy is a brilliant musician who I think is exactly what the band needed at this point in their careers (no way in hell do songs like Sick, Sad Little World or The Odyssey get made w/Dirk on bass). Most of his basslines on ACLOTM aren't terribly groundbreaking, but I firmly believe it's because it was his first album in the band and he was still finding his place, so to speak. Just listen to what he does live....IMO he's vastly improved the basslines to Just a Phase and Are You In, and the Drive remix is awesome as well (albeit not that complicated). The bass solos he was doing early in the past tour were just nasty. I think a lot of people write him off because he doesn't have Dirk's style and you can tell he's a former guitar player from his basslines, but that's definately not a bad thing given the direction they've been heading as a band. I've been comparing him to the bass player from the Stone Temple Pilots (one of the DeLeo bros?) for a while....very melodic and flawless in their playing of scales. So back to the original point of the thread, yeah, they rock and are severely underappreciated by the music "elitists" out there who dismiss them based soley/mostly on their radio hits, most of which happen to be among their worst songs, IMO (Wish You Were Here, Warning, Nice To Know You, Stellar). Anyone who doubts their skills needs to listen to Sick, Sad Little Word, The Odyssey, Follow, and pretty much anything off of SCIENCE or Fungus Amongus (keep in mind they were like 15 when they wrote the FA material...makes it that much more amazing). I'm really excited to see what they come up with over the next year or two. I urge everyone to check it out...between the score they're writing for a surfer documentary, a new Time-Lapse album, and their next Incubus album, I'm pretty confident their best work is still to come (and this is from someone who still believes SCIENCE is their best album to date). And if you haven't figured out by now from the length of this post, yeah, I like this band A LOT. |

I wasn't distinguishing between either of the two bassists. What's your point? |

similar thing with Chili Peppers. their sound matured with age. |
incubus are a great band and are most definately under rated. sure science was a kick *** album, but so is theyre most recent one (crow left of the murder). it might have a different sort of feel to it but it sure is a great piece of work!

incu-band
Not sure if this is the place to post this but im freaking out-i need to start singing and writing again, I have this posted in another area in the forums so if anything sounds weird just ignore it because im just adding to what i typed there. ;)
Any of you with Incubus influence located in Florida or know anybody in the area they plays any instruments besides a singer? The band I was in just broke up after 3 years and I need all instrumentalists besides a singer. Everyone in my area is like screamo and hardcore and I prefer a more sophisticated and open minded sound.(sounds bad because i wont play other peoples music but its just being played by everyone here and no one is going anywhere with it)Any help would be great and i hope there was no one offended here who likes the screamo or hardcore deal. Thanks michael onewaymule11486@netscape.net |
Incubus is heading into a very awesome realm. They're not afraid to do what they want. Each album can stand on it's own, and each album is awesome in my opinion. Each member is extremely talented and they write good songs for all situations. Fussing rock, jazz, blues and hip-hop with the ability to do live jams can't be a bad thing. Probably my favorite band right now...
