Dead Kennedys - Too Drunk To Fuck

From the beginning there is a nice sounding guitar riff, drums and bass come in at about 00:05, the lyrics come in at about 00:09, they're not that bad, they sound sort of warn, and they sort of remind me of the misfits. Theres a solo that kicks in at about 01:10 which fits in pretty good with the song, it lasts for about 10 seconds or so and then it drops to a lower solo for about another 10 seconds. all in all its not a bad song, the lyrics are kinda humorous if you listen to them, I give it a 7/10.

Pick one of these
I like a wide variety of music

KMFDM - WWIII kind of hard rock
Dope - Move it also kind of hard rock
Sublime - Burritos ska
Dropkick Murphys - Time to go punk
ohGr - Shite kind of techno I guess

(I'm no good at classifying music...)

Dropkick Murphys - Time To Go

Starts out with an acordian..I think thats what it is anyway. That plays for a while, then the rest of the intruments come in with that still playing the tune over the top. The singing comes in and its really annoying. It sounds like there's 2 of them, both with horrenously annoying voices. Average solo towards the end. I have heard better DKM songs than this but it wasntthat bad 2.5/5

STIFF LITTLE FINGERS - The Roaring Boys Pt. 2

First of all this is a quite long song for being a punk song. You can easily label the song in two parts. Let's go for the first part: It starts very slow. Some piano and the vocals. Then enters a trumpet and the bass. Cool slow bass with slides pull-offs and that sort of things. If you like slow songs it's an ok part. I'd give it a 6.5...But, after 2.2 minutes prepare yourself for a kickass song. It starts with a flute and a violin doing a very catchy "riff". Then the drums kick in with some yeah's and so by the vocals. And then guitar, bass and vocals kick in properly. The verse vocals and music are very good in my opinion. Every now and then the flute and violin redo the riff and every now and then also the guitar does some tiny solo. At If you don't mind a 6 minutes song (whole song) with a 2 minutes slow intro and if you like Flogging molly's style you'll love this song as much as I do. First part is not that good and that's why I'll give it an 8.5/10

My choices:

Mad Caddies - Silence (Ska-punk)
Dead Kennedys - California Über Alles (Punk)
Bigwig - Numbers (Punk)
Ignite - Bullets Included No Thought Required (Melodic Hardcore)

Against All Authority - Walking Revolution (Ska-core)
The Filaments - Western Double Standard (Ska-punk)

welly welly well boyos and ladies, looks like i finally get my death wish

ok, so this song, considered by many to be the dead kennedys 'chicken al la king"(pardon the retarded phrase)
this song, the 8th track of their groundbreaking 'Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegatables"
ok, the songs starts out with a drum beat that seems to drive the entire song so well, this could well be the part that most people see as the songs enternal organs that make it run so effectivly (again, cept retarded metaphor)
then comes a surf like guitar lick thats very east bay ray like if you will, hence: one string turning to power chords, jellos vocals are amazing in this entire record, so paranoid and yet so dominating and smug at the same time, it seems he is THE grand poet of underground music ( my opinion)
anyway, this song is about how jello sees a resemblance between hitler and jerry brown, something like that, this comes from the third riech song "Deutschland uber Alles" or Germany over All, my own translation oohh rightt, anyway
yea
damn good song

Sonic Youth - Dirty Boots

This is a nice, very well done rock number. I don't really know what genre to put this with but it's good music anyway, and that's all that really matters, right?

The song opens with a sort of ambient guitar riff, and as more is added the song builds and progresses, climbing to its peak, and descends with a guitar solo that can only be described as pretty. The singing goes really well with the song, and despite how heavy or the song gets, the singing never becomes too easy or too intense to match the music. I've never heard this band before, but I'm definitely going to have to hear more. Overall, I give this 8/10.

alright, the first thing i notice is this song is quite rock n roll, and quite '77 in sound.

riffs are nothing special, bit of palm muting, bit of....non palm muting.

the vocals are sung by a guy and a woman, with the guy singing the majority of them. the girl has the standard, sort of whiny 77 style voice (think beki bondage)

overall, while there is nothing particuarly standout about this song, it is done well

i reccomend it to all of you

The intro is really jaunty with cool guitars and what sounds like some sort of piped instrument. The vocals kick in pretty wuickly. The lyrics tell a story about a private eye and the voice isn't very good but the music is excellent and it all fits together really well. It's quite sparse with mostly just drums, clapping and bass with singing over it with little guitar bits. The verses repeat a couple of times with some really cool musical varitaions. THere's a solo about 2:30 that's just as cool. The lyrics are quite depressing but the music makes it into a really happy song. I really liked this song. IT was bouncy and fun but the music was a lot better than the vocals or lyrics. 8/10

This intense fusion of Alternative/Hip-hop is a song that everyone must hear. Carrying along his music with only a very basic synthesizer, Wesley Willis informs us of the many joys of eating at McDonalds, and the true reason that McDonalds is a place to rock. Jesus Christ, I don't think I've ever heard this much talent so amazingly crammed into a simple 2 and 1/2 minutes. Listen to this song, you just might cream yourself.

This is an average nice song. It starts very slow like some rock and roll ballad, the guitars letting notes sound and a nice bass line. Then the song starts with a very nice although easy guitar “solo” and the lyrics enter just after it. The chorus is nice and catchy, and at the end of it a tiny bass line to arrive again to the little guitar riff-solo. Another time the catchy chorus and another time the solo, this time longer and nicer. Then a slow bridge similar to the intro that goes even slower while the singer says whoaaaa. Just now the chorus another time, repeated again a little bit faster and a nice little tiny outro in retardando...Typical catchy pop-punk song

first off, RATM is one of the greatest rock bands out there nowadays, even though they broke up, i guess you could still call them a present day band, but oh well, onward with the song
this song kicks ass, it starts out with a guitar riff thats so simple its mind blowing because its so hard to recreate properly, then a drum beat comes in, and then the rock out measures, then comes the more quiet verse,
heres where he delivers the one of the most powerful lryics ive ever heard:
so raise your fist and march around
dont just dont take what you need
then the chorus which is also mind blowing
back when i was a kid and this song first came out the only part i new was 'the santa maria, the pinta, the maria' even though i slaughtered it as a kid i loved this song, and everyone who ever was up to date with current rock music this song is a keeper,
but for most RATM fans this album was a huge let down because some people thought they sold out or somthing
ANYWAY, this one i like because i used to know a ton of songs from a lng time ago then just picked it up and got the political meaning of it all, not that the deeper meaning is anything new...

anyway 9.5/10 9.5 because its too long on the verses and the entire song is too short, but i wouldnt really change anything about it

also check out all of their other cds, there all pretty good

You know, I've never actually checked out the Pixies before this, and god ****, I was missing out. Very nice song, not too upbeat but just right, awesome to listen to and easy to get hooked on it. It's a good break from listening to alot of fast, energetic, punk and rock bands that I mostly listen to. What great dose of rock.

Generation X - Dancing With Myself (5:59)

I've never listened to this band before, so this is an entirely new experience for me. A musical journey if you will. I can't put my finger on who the singer sounds like. I don't know, good vocals anyways. The song sounds like a mix between 70's punk and 80's pop music. But it's not like a song that you'll hear in some crappy 80's movie, it's very catchy, upbeat, and good. However it starts to get repetitive, but then around 2:45 like a revised chorus begins, more "dancing with myself" but a guitar solo and some "uh uh oh oh"'s are added. The rest of the song is pretty much like the first three minutes, and begins to fade out 20 seconds before the song ends.

This band seems the like the band everyone got into at once, and no wonder they are really good. It starts off with a good little guitar riff. Vocals come in a bit later, there are two main vocalists, and they have a good punk grimy voice. They switch off for the verses, and one takes the chrous, and then there is a group part. The muisc parts of the song are really good, very hardcore punk sounding, and the vocals are very good as well. This is a very well done song, I like it. It's pretty short as well, doesn't drag on. I dig it. 8/10

There's a drum intro that makes the song sound like it's going to be really heavy so it surprises you when it goes into this chilled out section with a really cool bassline. I really liked this section. AT about 0:30 the tempo changes and it speeds up. The drumming here is really cool and it sounds like it's building up to something before there's a slight pause and then the intro drums before the vocals kick in. This section is still quite slow but is much heavier. THe lyrics are good but the vocals are a bit grating and at times it sounds like the singer should really be living in a dustbin on Sesame Street. They just sound a bit too forced and constipated. THen it goes back into another instrumental section which is much better before going back into another vocal section where the vocals are even worse. Hoarse vocals like this don't work with this tempo of music. The song then goes back to another instrumental section which leads right up to the end of the song. Musically this song is great, vocally it's terrible. Thankfully the verses and choruses are relatively brief so they don't spoil the song too much. 7/10

alright then, i heard the reverend horton heats cover of this song first and liked it, so i thought i would check out the original.

very catchy little bluesy style song, basically just about someone in prison - how he got there, what it's like

the riff, fairly basic palm muted country type of thing

you cant really say much about this song, its the same riff throughout, with a simple solo, but its a very cool song

This is a pretty cool rockabilly song with elements of country and Johnny Cash-type storytelling lyrics, about, as the title states, cocaine. Very funny lyrics, and it still manages to be a really cool song, and that doesn't usually happen with songs like this. I wouldn't expect just anyone to like this song, but I think it's worth a try if you like rockabilly.

Misfits - Hybrid Moments

Starts off with a short and simple drum beat, reminds me of Uk Subs' Stranglehold intro. The vocals and everything else quickly jump in after a couple seconds of the drums. This is a Danzig Misfits song. I've never liked the Misfits that much, and this song isn't making them sound better to me. It's pretty melodic, and sounds like a pop-punk song, so I don't think this is an average Misfits song. It's short, basically ending at 1:30. I give it 4/10

This songs starts off with both guitars playing harmonics. Then the drums come in, followed by the bass. The drums get faster and one guitar stops starts playing muted notes, also progressively faster. This is a really nice intro, and it kicks in great into the well suited hardcore-ish 3 chord verse. When the singer begins, the guitar begins muting again. Then the drum beat changes and a guitar lick is played. The cycle begins a new. Afterwards a guitar solo, or rather a mess of random notes comes in, but it sounds great with the ascending bass line. The 3 chord verse then comes in again, followed by the muted guitar notes. Then that solo thing. It ends with the sound of the power going out.

The chorus of this song isn't catchy, like what is expected of this great pop-punk band. However, it's still a very cool song with a good intro and interesting guitar play.

There's no quiet build-up to this song, it goes in fast straight away. There's about 10 seconds of fairly generic but still entertaining music before the vocals start with two guys shouting "JUSTIFY!" and "JUSTIFY YOUR ACTIONS!" but it sounds like he's shouting "JUSTIFY ERECTIONS!" which makes the song a lot more entertaining. The music continues in the same vein, fast and fun and the lyrics are okay as well but nothing special. At about 1:07 it goes into a slower ska section with some a really cool horn bit before going back into the pop-punk stuff until the end of the song. This song is okay. It's not great but it's still good song. And it's message of finding a reason for boners is great. JUSTIFY ERECTIONS! 7/10

Sham 69 - Tell the Children

this song is pretty cool, it starts with a horn section with a smooth but simple bass riff behind it, kind of jazzy, and the kick drum sarts a solid beat, which is cool. it then goes into a palm muted verse with snarlyish very british sounding vocals. the chorus is your standard Sham 'everyone sing along' chorus, which sounds cool, and the horns perpetuate throughout the song at various intervals. also, at some point there is a scary electronic voice telling 'all the children in the red light to report to the c urfew zone'. chorus isnt as good as some other Sham songs, and wierdly, this song made me want to listen to 'questions and answers' instead, but yeh, its a cool song.

Minor Threat - Straight Edge

Starts with a guitar riff that is used just about all the way through the song, the drums kick off in singnature Minor Threat fashion, fast and hard. Ian comes in with the vocals shortly after the drums, first off talking which turns into shouting about halfway through the first verse. During the change in vocals the guitar riff changes slightly but is not very noticeable but changes back again in the second verse. The Structure of the song is verse 1, verse 2 then then the chorus with the the title of the song being shouted just like in most Minor Threat songs. Very short, only about 45 secs long, but I still love it. 8/10.

Reagan Youth - New Aryans

The songs intro is really cool but quite weird alternating between heavy and futuristic. The drumming is particularly cool. The vocals start at about 0:12. The vocals are fairly standard and each line is followed by another short blast of screeching guitar that gives it the song quite an aggressive feel. The lyrics are anti-white supremacist and fit the song well but are pretty basic. The song goes back into a quick blast of the intro before back into the vocals.
This song is fast and furious and gives the listener no break from the action. ABout half-way through the second verse the music changes and gets heavier and more monotonous like its building to something before it goes back into another intro section then a different biut with "NEW ORDER!" being shouted over the top of it. Personally, I think Joy Division are better but whatever floats your boat. Then it returns to the intro section completing the cyclical nature of the song. IT's a good song but it's not great. Fun to listen to but perhaps a bit repetive and short. 7/10

THE TOY DOLLS – Sod the Neighbours

The song starts funny with an interruption from the neighbours in the place where Toy Dolls are playing. Someone says: Sod the bloody neighbours and they start singing the TV theme of the show Neighbours, maybe you know it. Then the music starts. Some guitar feedback, then the bass, and then guitar and drums together. Awesome bass throughout the song, it starts doing a catchy and speedy line and keeps doing a similar rhythm but with lots of hooks. The song is full of guitar and bass little fills and sounds awesome. What to say about Toy Dolls’ guitar, maybe the best in all punk. And the bassist in Absurd-ditties (album from where comes the song) is the best I’ve heard in all Toy Dolls discography. Song is catchy and the vocals are not as they use to in this band. So to people who don’t like Olga’s vocals give this a chance. When you’ve listened about a minute and a half of the song you realise it’s a very good song. Then it comes the awesome part. First, the guitar solo, veeery good as always, with some tapping, very nice. And then a bass solo! Strange thing I must say. It’s not very difficult but sounds really good and it’s catchy, with energy and speed. Song continues a little bit more and after a chorus and an ending bass little riff it ends with the neighbours knocking the door. I’m sorry if this is too subjective but this is one of my favorite songs ever. And almost all the other songs on the album are that good, only bad point I can find is lyrics, but they’re not bad, just average.

Bigwig - Numbers

Begins with a sloppy sounding pic slide, I'm thinking it's totally pointless and they should have just began the song at four seconds avoiding that pic slide all together. You can tell this is going to be a fast song right after the singer yells "Go!" This is my first time having the pleasure of listening to Bigwig, and this is a very good song to start off with, so all of you who haven't heard them yet go download. I'm not going to go look at the lyrics but from what I hear I can make out some politicalESQUE words.. "fuck this war", "fuck this country", you know, that kind of stuff. These guys have to have some hardcore influence. There's a good breakdown around 50 seconds and it sounds like some effect was added to the vocals. Excellent song 9/10

Im Going to this again. so,
The Specials- Too Hot.

Not one of my favourite specials song. its pretty slow, and repeats the words " Too Hot" Alot. They talk about rude boys in the song. same beat thru out the song. gets a little faster at the end. 5/10

I suggest
The Heatskores- hardcores step brother
Big d- cant be caught
The Sly Caps- This Boring Life
SuperTramp - School

Big D and the Kids Table - Can't Be Caught

Starts out with a catchy little intro. Throughout the verse and the entire song there is a decent, skankable beat. The chorus has great sing a long lyrics and a nice horn line. The song climaxes (fun word) about 30 seconds before it ends, with Dave Mcwane semi-screaming about being stuck in your town. and thats basically what the song is about. Being stuck in your old surroundings with your same old boring life. 8/10

My suggestions:

Tsunami Bomb - Take the Reins (Punk)
Aquabats - My Skateboard (ska-punk)
Sweet - Ballroom Blitz (classic rock/glam rock)
The Toasters - dont let the bastards grind you down (two-tone)
Strike Anywhere - Chorus of One (melodic hardcore/punk)
New Mexican Disaster Squad - Vultures (melodic hardcore/punk)

The Toasters - Don't Let The Bastards Grind You Down

This song really starts off very well. Thats what made me give it a higher score. But for some reason the song just seems boring. Even with the organ(sp?) solo in it. I think they could have made it better and I've heard much better songs they have made then this. I expected alot better. 6/10

For The Listening

Toots and The Maytals - Reggea Got Soul (Trad Ska)

Daft Punk - Around The Word (House)

The Ghouls - We Are The Dead (Horror Punk)

New York Dolls - Looking For A Kiss (Proto Punk)

Johnny Thunders and The Heartbreakers - I wanna Be Loved (Proto or 77 I don't know for sure.)

You're not supposed to do a song you've already listened to. And just some advice, describe the song better and maybe find out information about the song, so like for that song you could have said it was a cover.

New York Dolls - Looking for a Kiss

As most of the bands I review in here, I've never listened to the New York Dolls before. The song begins with who I imagine is the singer saying "When I say I'm in love you best believe I'm in love L-U-V" followed by a short pre-vocal intro. You can tell they are proto punk, there are elements of punk we hear all the time from bands anywhere from 1977 to present day, but it's not quite punk. I can't explain that well. Anyways, I looked at one of their album covers and I asked myself if those were girls. It turns out they're all guys who crossdress for whatever reasons, and I'm judging from that I'd say they're looking for a kiss from a man. Haha, probably not, I didn't look at the lyrics and I haven't been paying attention to the words. Ok, the song is very steadily paced, not too fast or slow, which is one of the reasons why it isn't quite punk. This is a good song and I'll definitely be downloading some more, I give it an 8.5/10

My Recommendations:
The Vulcans - Asibiso Jungle (Ska)
Slow Gherkin - Weasel (Ska)
The Rude Pressures - What'd I Believe? (Ska)
Leftover Crack - Clear Channel (Punk)
