Diatonic Dissonance™ 11-18-2004 02:23 AM

Never heard any.

LumpyCustard 11-20-2004 06:40 PM
In no particular order:

Limelight
Cold Fire
Totem
Red Barchetta
Earthshine
Vapor Trail
Roll the Bones
The Sprit of Radio
2112 (the whole thing)
Xanadu
Cygnus X-1 (part 1 and 2)
Rivendell
Lock and Key
By-Tor and the Snow Dog
Yyz
La Villa Strangiato
Red Sector A
The Big Money
Closer to the Heart
Nobody's Hero
Something for Nothing
Subdivisions

That's just off the top of my head.

All the members of the band are virtuosos who just have an amazing synergy with each other. I'm partially influenced by Alex Lifeson as a guitarist myself. That man can do everything. Classical, electric, acoustic, lead, rhythm, effects. He's one of the most innovative guitarists of our time.
Thanks man, its helped me a lot.
IM A NEW RUSH FAN!
nobody's hero is an awesome song. im gonna go out right now and buy every single album of theirs in existance.

thickasabrick 11-20-2004 06:52 PM

i am a big fan of rush, not a lot of people know them at my school though..which is odd because they are amazing.

Rattlehead 04-19-2006 08:18 AM

reply to thread title: they sure do.

i have moving pictures(not too fond) and 2112(fuk yes, the greatest album created. every song owns there. lessons, something for nothing... and of course the masterpiece, 2112).

^^taking into consideration that i prefer the 2112 kind of stuff to the Moving Pictures kind of stuff, what else do you think i should get? is there anything else like 2112?

Hemispheres ftw!

Rattlehead 04-19-2006 08:31 AM

cool... any more? lists?

Duman 04-19-2006 08:37 AM

Try 'A Farewell To Kings' too.

Rattlehead 04-19-2006 08:42 AM

cool. grrrr...Rush is terrible for torrents.

BludgeonySteve 04-25-2006 09:11 PM

I don't see what people have against the singing. The early stuff is rocking and the newer stuff is beautiful (the album Roll the Bones for example. If you're one of those "omg leik rysh wood b good if their singing dint sing like a ****ing chipmunk" you'll love this album).

snailboy 04-25-2006 10:31 PM

Someone I know told me Rush is similar to Placebo. I didn't believe them. True?

PepsiMetal 04-25-2006 10:33 PM

I'm not even going to ask how a 2004 thread was bumped.

I like rush, pretty good, but I'm not a "fan" of the vocals, although they're not bad as most people say.
I know It's all about the fingers, but where one of mine go, the rest go! The only way I might be able to finger-play is with the index and pinky, but my pinky's too weak.
Cliff Burton usually played with his index and pinky too. So yea, go for it. :D Although you'll need the rest of the fingers sooner or later probably.

I love Rush. Geddy's vocals don't actually bother me; I find that if I like a band with not-so-great singing, but I love the music enough, I can look past it to enjoy the music.

2112 Overture is such an amazing song, it's so epic.

My two favorite Rush songs are Limelight and Closer To The Heart. My friend showed my a video of them doing Closer To The Heart live, it was nuts! Geddy is so amazing on bass. Plus Neil Peart is an absolute beast behind a drumkit.

ghettoeddo 04-25-2006 11:59 PM

can anyone recommend some songs where neil peart shines? i've heard so much about him and i took a gander at 2112 and "the best of rush" CD's but his drumming to me, isn't particularly spectacular. it's much better than most, but im stil trying to see his awesomeness.

Jude 04-26-2006 12:03 AM

La Villa Strangiato has awesome performances on the part of all band members, not just Peart.

ghettoeddo 04-26-2006 12:13 AM

which album is that on? or is that an album? im really not too well versed in rush

Rattlehead 04-26-2006 11:55 PM

i love Geddy's vocals. i love that strange vibrato/tremelo that he does on songs like "Something For Nothing".
YYZ is an unbeleivable instrumental, has anyone heard Dream Theater's cover of it? Mind Blowing!
Man, I hate when Dream Theater do covers. They always sound EXACTLY like the original, but faster.

And to the man who asked which album La Villa Strangiato is on, that would be Hemispheres.

thunderzstruck 04-30-2006 09:12 PM

think we could just do rush threads in here?

I love La Villa Strangiato...

and as for drumming... check out a couple of his drum solos...

The solo on Rush In Rio is called O Baterista, and the solo on R:30 is called Der Trommler, if you're interested. Perhaps you could download them or something. They're fairly similar, just with different structures and a few different parts, but they're pretty good.
