piano is'nt meant to be in rock you'll really only find it in old rock bands

radianteclipse 11-04-2004 12:11 PM

The Gathering has a couple really really amazing piano songs...some of the best being "Shrink", and "Like Fountains" (The one off of the Sleepy Buildings album).

Killseng 11-04-2004 12:22 PM

Avenged Sevengold-Warmness of the soul.

Actually, if you think about it. If the old rock bands were the only ones to use piano, seeing as they were the innovaters of rock, surely it means that rock IS meant to have piano in it seeing as its creators used a piano?

Paranoidd 11-04-2004 01:26 PM

My thoughts from your...uh...keyboard?

ivy 11-04-2004 02:13 PM

wen i liked evenescance (i was twelve, ok?) i also used to listen to HIM n stuff like that. some of their songs are keyboard-based. also lacuna coil n amaran

evilmenhavenosongs 11-04-2004 02:16 PM

^^^ listen to that guy, HIM are great, buy her some HIM. Or Icon And The Black Roses, possibly Charon.

Gittermonkey11 11-04-2004 02:40 PM

Queen and styx are the two best piano rock bands that come to my mind.

MildlyAmusingWankCushion 11-04-2004 02:45 PM

I'm positive she would like Ben Folds , or the Ben Folds Five which was the band he was in previously to going solo. He's a fantastic pianist and makes some great upbeat piano music which can be enjoyed by almost anybody.

LoveMuscle 11-04-2004 02:54 PM

Listen to Dope's ablbum Life, it has keyboards in it.

bowlingforpoop 11-04-2004 03:17 PM

borknagar uses a lot of piano in their songs

i dont know if that would work for your sister though.....

isn't "meant" to be in rock? who wrote a book saying what is allowed in rock and what isn't? i find that instrumments such as piano, keyboard/synths, flute, violin, mandolin, bongos, etc, make rock music twice as awesome.

3FingeredHoek 11-05-2004 10:12 PM

One Angry Dwarf and 200 solemn faces by Ben Folds Five.

Doop 11-05-2004 11:23 PM

School by supertramp has an awsome piano solo.

The_One 11-06-2004 12:06 AM

Muse.

enim 11-07-2004 05:06 PM

Well first, sorry for stalling out so long. I have been unable to access my comp for my then 5 minuets for a long time. (school+work=NO FREE TIME)

First off, props to Paranoidd who reminded me of Lacuna Coil, i totally forgot about them.

and many of those suggestions were good but she isnt big on the screaming guitars, and death metal (sarcasm). but seriously i think that the hardest type of metal she will go will be Lacuna Coil

thanks everyone

Listen to Piebald - I haven't tried it...real good piano rock

Johnny B. Good 11-07-2004 05:18 PM

What about the Doors they have an organ that tears it up

sonicst0rm 03-18-2006 03:16 PM

Check out Dark Tranqillity - Chartacter

features a lot of piano.

Det_Nosnip 03-18-2006 04:21 PM

I wouldn't call their music "rock," though. :)

DanD 03-18-2006 04:30 PM

Man Man, the main instrument in their sound is a piano, although they are nothing like Evanescence. They are more upbeat, and a little off of the wall.

Danger Bird 03-18-2006 07:58 PM

I remember this thread!

Joe 03-18-2006 09:46 PM

Me too.

Wow, as a musician, it's kind of embarassing that neither Billy Joel nor Elton John is in this thread. They're two of the greatest piano players without a doubt.

lak89 03-18-2006 09:51 PM

Dream Theater has some nice keyboard in it, maybe check that out

Joe 03-18-2006 09:53 PM
Dream Theater has some nice keyboard in it, maybe check that out
I assumed he was talking just about piano, not keyboards too. There are a ton of good keyboardests throughout metal.

classicrockman 03-18-2006 09:54 PM

"Wait for Sleep" by Dream Theater has great piano.
