Thanks to a non-stop work ethic and hard hitting melodic rock songs, Vancouver based TOURIST have not had to venture far from home to gain a growing popularity with fans and media alike. Their dynamic live show and local radio presence continue to win over new fans domestically, while their overwhelming success on the internet has netted new fans globally.
In early 2004, TOURIST was a semi-finalist in the M.E.T.R.O. Search 2004 in New York, and finalists in the Doniryeed Records talent search in Boston. The band's song Newradio has maintained a top ten spot in the rock category of Garageband.com since May 2004 as well as top 5 placements in numerous other music websites including Besonic and MP3.com. TOURIST is a winner of the 2004 99.3 CFOX's Vancouver Seeds competition where they join alumni such as Nickelback, Default, and Matthew Good. Famous J together with Converse Shoes and Broadjam chose TOURIST's first single
Everytime We Touch to support the release of the 1970 reissue of the Converse classic shoe. Thanks to a strong fan response, the song continues to be in rotation at CFOX, the fourth ranked rock radio station in North America. Everytime We Touch continues to find new successes and was recently added to the MyGlobalSound.com's “Back to School MX” CD
which has been distributed to over 8000 Florida college students. Veteran producer/mixer Mike Fraser (Metallica, Slipknot, The Cure, AC/DC) has just completed mixing TOURIST's forthcoming release at The Warehouse Studio in Vancouver.
TOURIST are first and foremost a live act and they continue to tour and open up for bands such as The Offspring, Billy Talent, Thornley, Finger Eleven, Clutch and more.
This group of talented and focused musicians combines experience with motivation to continue to drive its collaborative effort forward. Look for TOURIST's upcoming full-length debut release early 2005.

Dunner, Program Director/Music Director, 99.3 The Fox
"So you play live?...can you write great songs? - Tourist can.... this is a band that
understands the importance of great songwriting and continue to impress me with
every song they record."
Bob Mills, Program Director, Power 104 FM
"Tourist step up to the plate and hit the ball out of the park - these guys know how to
Rock!"
Tom Harrison, Music critic, The Vancouver Province
"...Tourist is like a supercharged U2."
Garageband
"... Newradio wins "track of the week" May 24, 2004 in the Reviewer's Pick Awards Five star material! "
" I really like this, and it makes me think of great current bands such as Hoobastank and A Perfect Circle. The vocals are great, and work
very good dynamically through verse, bridge and chorus. The mix is also very good; the track is heavy on guitars and they are at the front
of the mix together with the vocals - still the low end of the bass and drums are present. The hook reminds me of 80's U2 at their best, but
I like this band better! review by Simon Lindgren on Garageband"
Kings Of A&R
" Dynamic, emotionally sweeping blend of modern rock and edgy alternative. Sounds like a cross between U2, Our Lady Peace, Fuel,
Tool/Chevelle, etc. Lineup is experienced, both as songwriters and on the live circuit and are winners in 2004's The Fox Vancouver SEEDS
competition (past winners include Nickelback, Default, Matthew Good), who will include the band on their yearly compilation CD."

GimmeSlack12 11-04-2004 01:24 PM

True this does count up to 20 bands, but you know, I'm going to just extend the entry until November 10th. Your posts for entry have to be dated at latest November 10th. November 11th at 12:01am will not be accepted. At that point I will download everything and start. I will section off the bands evenly into categories based on when they posted their entry.

NOVEMBER 10TH DEADLINE
NO LIMIT TO HOW MANY BANDS CAN ENTER
ONLY ONE BAND PER PERSON IN BATTLE OF BANDS (BOB)
NAME THE SONGS YOU WANT ENTERED (3 MAXIMUM), IF NOT MENTIONED TOP 3 SONGS LISTED WILL BE ENTERED

Questions? IM me AIM: taintedchameleon

GimmeSlack12 11-04-2004 07:52 PM

As for the bands being entered I'm copying your Screen Name and Posting your web link in a word processing document and I will download your songs. As for the Screen Name TOURIST I am convinced that you just copied a website and posted it, I'm not sure if I want to enter that considering you have ONE post. As for DEEPGREENSEA you have one post, yet seem to be interested and therefore I have no problem with that.

So Far this is the list:

GimmeSlack12 11-05-2004 12:52 PM

Make sure everything is there by November 10th. After that I'll be listening to songs when I get to them. Your best bet is to have everything copasetic by the deadline.

thecoach004 11-09-2004 06:43 PM

Hey. I'm new to this site so I thought I may as well start off by posting some of my music. So I'll enter my songs Placid and Singing Silently. Both of them are just instrumentals I recorded on top of a drum machine.

Deepgreensea 11-10-2004 01:46 AM

GimmeSlack12, hi, I'm having problems with my website. The hosts have locked out my MP3 files. If I don't have it sorted in time, you can disqualify me. Cheers :chug:

100% scream free.

GimmeSlack12 11-11-2004 02:05 PM

As my rules were stated the entry deadline was November 10th, this being the last day to submit. Arakacian (Moldiver), you made it in time, Habitaband (Habitamatt) you did not and thus you will not be in the Battle of the Bands contest. Sorry.

I will post more info on how I will work this tonight. The final list as well.
*grumble* i only signed up this morning :/
I was hoping something like this would not happen, but earlier in the thread I had posted the rules. I'm sorry.

Habitamatt 11-11-2004 03:06 PM

No worries :)

Habitamatt 11-11-2004 03:37 PM

Would've been better if you posted that in the first post, i didnt see about hte date :<

GimmeSlack12 11-11-2004 09:20 PM

This all started as someone elses idea, so I didn't start the original thread. But I've seen these things fall apart way too many times and so I decided to organize it and so I set the rules somewhere in the middle. Its kinda messed up I know, but I'm determined to have rules and to have a winner this time, so that there will be another one. Hope its cool.

GimmeSlack12 11-12-2004 12:57 AM

Ok, here's the list of what I got. Deepgreensea you are in. Any problems with the list please email me at twelfthslacker@hotmail.com or Private message me, or AIM: taintedchameleon
I will have one cut down to 6 bands with the song that I feel is the best. Then the voting will begin as a Poll Thread that will take the top 3 vote counts, and then a final poll thread to decide the winner. This isn't about me deciding the winner, only narrowing it down. Good luck!

EDIT: Since there are 19 bands listed, I am adding Habitaband to make it an even 20. Sorry for the confusion man!
