I like 'War Pigs' a lot. The more I've listened to Black Sabbath lately, I've noticed that they sound a lot like Led Zeppelin. Has anyone ever noticed that or am I crazy?

Monti
sabbath make zeppelin sound light, but they both used to play more bluesy based styles

favourite sabbath song is probably the origional version of war pigs that is on ozzy's "the ozzman cometh"

ozzy - hellraiser

blizzard 10-21-2004 04:16 AM

Paranoid - the first Black Sabbath song i heard

JMetallica 10-21-2004 04:22 AM
I've only included the Ozzy-era songs, seeing as I'm feeling lazy and most people like the Ozzy-era of Black Sabbath.
I think thats because most people havent heard anything but ozzy era sabbath. :(

My five favourite Sabbath songs are: Symptom Of The Universe, Sign Of The Southern Cross, The Shining, Computer God and Children Of the Grave.... Mainly for the reason that they all have balls that are comparable to the size of large oranges.

daaf 10-21-2004 04:58 AM

i love sabbath but i don't like ozzys solo career

ArcLite 10-21-2004 05:02 AM

I like Sabbath better than solo, but I gotta say no more tears had some good tracks on it, highlight of his solo career in my opinion

moomoomoff 10-21-2004 06:29 AM

you can't beat black sabbath, sweet leaf, a national acrobat or iron man

dUSK 10-21-2004 06:48 AM

I bought a 2 disc cd called "The Best of Black Sabbath" last week. It's this best thing I've bought for ages:thumb:

acefrehleyjendell 10-21-2004 07:32 AM

i really think for anyone interested in sabbath should find a great song for what they like musically, for the usual slow but heavy riffs , listen to master of reality, for the more epic and ambitious, give sabbath bloody sabbath and sabotage a go, for power-ballads, listen to anything from after ian gillan left up until before dio came back, for the faster stuff, try heaven and hell, mob rules, and dehumanizer,

key tracks

black sabbath (black sabbath)
n.i.b (black sabbath)
paranoid (paranoid)
iron man (paranoid)
war pigs (paranoid)
electric funeral (paranoid)
children of the grave (mor)
sweet leaf (mor)
lord of this world (mor)
into the void (mor)
snowblind (vol4)
tomorrows dream (vol4)
supernaut (vol4)
sabbath bloody sabbath (sbs)
a national acrabat (sbs)
who are you (sbs)
looking for today (sbs)
killing yourself to live (sbs)
hole in the sky (sabotage) - kick a$$ riff, sounds sort of like slower powerslave era iron maiden, real slower.
symptom of the universe (sabotage)
am i going insane (sabotage)
dirty women (technical ecstasy) - lol i think tony was using too much on this album but still a good record.
never say die (nsd)
johnny blade (nsd)
shock wave (nsd) - one of my favs- killer intro, great lyrics, goes get a bit bowie-ish after a while.
air dance (nsd)
heaven and hell (hah)
die young (hah)
neon knights (hah)
children of the sea (hah) or is that on mob rules ???????
the mob rules (mob rules) - even though it says KILL OZZY, on the front cover-.
turn up the night (mob rules) really strange for a band that done somethinglike war pigs or spiral architect- but straight up rock.
computer god (dehumanizer)
tv crimes (dehumanizer)
I (dehumanizer)
kiss of death (forbidden)
psycho man (reunion)

sorry for the long post but i get worked up about sabbath and when i saw this thread -WOW- P.S. you can tell i'm not really a fan of much of the 80's stuff.

Brew 10-21-2004 08:21 AM

^Wow, I think I've found someone who's on the same level as me for being a Sabbath fan.

:)

acefrehleyjendell 10-21-2004 08:54 AM

thanks man, there hard to find these days coz most of em arent my age,
i dont think theres another 17 yo australian dude that likes sabbath as much as me, i used to just sit with my 'gibson iommi sg 400' in my room and play there entire back cataloge along with the lp or cd, until i dicovered that my ex bandmates finally accepted ''high pitched'' voices in there terms as cool and not gay (absolutly no offence whatsoever to the world wide homosexual community) and could appricate guitar that was real and not just computerised (with the exeption of never say die) so now we have changed musical direction and are now a real metal band that will put up a fight against any mainstream posers or even guys just like us, we have a point to prove to the world all because of the sound of rain , tolling bells , and the most powerful , soul crushing, bone rattling first chord of Black Sabbath, which i heard when i was about four years old, they have never been matched, nver will, and just like sabbath we will NEVER SAY DIE :thumb:

Black Sabbath #1 10-21-2004 09:18 AM

Black Sabbath is the best band ever, I love all their songs, no band in the world is better.

Black Sabbath from 1970-1978 that is...after that you cant really call it Black Sabbath, its just plain 80's crap.

Sabbath Rules!!

your not a diehard Sabbath fan then,as I have every album and would only call "seventh star" and "forbidden" their only weak albums. The other's are fantastic (espically the Dio and Martin years).

thats the REAL Sabbath thread we've had going on for awhile now, look on page 1 for key tracklists from a real Sabbath fanatic.

Brew 10-21-2004 02:17 PM

^Iommi has his new (well, old) album out now with Glen Hughes on vocals.

If I'm right, its the album they've been calling the 8th Star?

Was due out in 1996, but got shunned for a Mark I Black Sabbath re-union.

Fun Fact of the day - There have been roughly 30 different line-ups for Black Sabbath.

Led Guitar 10-21-2004 02:18 PM

snowblind is my favorite song.

InChains 10-21-2004 04:45 PM

Im trying to get into black sabbath, i know ill like them just from what ive heard, what cd should i buy first. preferrably from the ozzy era.

hmm im not sure, but theres no "bad" black sabbath cd, just find one with the songs you like.

Riva 10-21-2004 04:48 PM

Master Of Reality. It is their gateway album, and is one of the most popular.

Yes i got 8th star last week actually, i like it more than Seventh Star but overall it's not near his best, still worth getting if your an obsessive Iommi fan.

i will aggree with that, it was my second (first being Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath) and when i heard those songs it was what got me hooked and made me appriciate Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath more. My third album was Heaven and Hell, which at the time i was not aware had Dio on vocals, and LOVED that and soon purchased Volume.4 and Dehumanizer.

SGdudeSG 10-21-2004 05:49 PM

what album is sweet leaf on?

FrailandBedazzled1979 10-21-2004 06:49 PM

master of reality...not one of the album highlights, if you havent heard the rest you wouldnt understand hehe. Fantastic album.

rippa32 10-22-2004 12:54 AM

I was thinking about getting the Tyr album wat do u all think about that album.

FrailandBedazzled1979 10-22-2004 01:16 AM

Tyr is fantastic. All lyrics are based around Norse Myths, which i am very much into. Tony's voice is wondeful on there. Id say the key tracks would be: "the sabbath stones" "anno mundi" and "jerusalem" though every track is magnificigant. Probley their best produced album in terms of sound quality, Tony plays wonderfuly which is most importantly. aside from "cross purposes" it is the best with Martin on vocals.

rippa32 10-22-2004 04:34 AM

thanks for that

beyondthecircle 10-22-2004 01:05 PM

the new box set rocks. you can really see a progression in the musical ability of sabbath. Im not sure i like the synth in "never say die (or maybe its technical exstacy?," i think its overused. but, sabbath will always kickass. Sabatoge would rate #1 for me on the original lineup's discography.

IAJP 10-22-2004 01:09 PM

Black sabbath is the best black sabbath album.

rippa32 10-29-2004 03:46 AM

What does everyone think of the Dehuminizer Album.
