Even "Goblin Girl?" "Conehead?" "Sex?" How about the "Them Or Us" album? All that irrelevant crap on "Lost Episodes?"

Sure, he wrote a ton of great music, but there's no reason to make claims like this. He's written his fair share of stinkers, just like everyone else.
How about i do like conehead and goblin girl, sex isnt my favorite but i dont think it was horrible. i thought all of his stuff was artistic and had its own meaning to him and if it was good enough for him to produce then it is good enough for me. I was just saying i like the guy and his music and he is a profound musician/artisct, sorry for having an opinion that doesnt agree with yours.

I just get tired of people acting like he, or anyone else, can do no wrong. He was just a guy.

Best song: "Charva"

My dad likes Frank Zappa, and I must say I quite like some if his stuff.:)

But I didn't know he was dead.:(

My Music Technology teacher's real big on him. He was telling me about the 'black page' arrangement, so called because it had so many notes in such a small space that the page looked almost like it was black.

He was also telling me that Frank would fire his musicians if they played a single wrong note.

Apparently, at one show he wasn't happy with the crowd response, so he had his band play the funeral march for the rest of the show while he sat staring darkly at the audience.

Most of that stuff's probably just rumours though.

I just recently got Freak Out!, and it's excellent. Previously I'd only heard Hungry Freaks, Daddy, and Titties and Beer, and liked them.

Good FA, too.

Just thought, does that include Miles Davis?

biggest bump ive ever seen

umm, im not sure whether this really fits what you want, but try Joe's Garage. The first act is fairly composed and planned, but in the last act especially and in act 2 it gets a lot more...drawn out, and a bit freer(?) i think. personally i like his compositions more than his free form stuff, i.e. i like little umbrella's more than the gumbo variations on Hot Rats, so the first half of Joe's Garage suits me better.

hopefully that helps, I only have Joe's Garage and Hot Rats though

I love bumping threads. I've never listened to Frank Zappa like a dumbass. What's the best albums here people?
Hmmm ya I only have Pt. I of Joe's Garage so I didn't want to mention it as a complete album. Thanks for the rec. Haha ya on the bump. I had to use my supermod powers to move it from the archive forum over to here.
parts 2 and 3 do drag on for me, i dont think ive ever listened to the whole thing in one sitting or even the whole of act 2 or 3. from the bits i listened to it just descends into him soloing for minutes on end, which is the part of his music i dont like. but the first act is actually heaps, heaps good.

and snackary id probably try hot rats, it seems to be everyones most liked.
