Also another good band that follows this style is 'The International Noise Conspiracy'
and 'Refused' on a heavier scale ;) Cool review! |
Ok ok ok I'll do the stupid review of the stupid CD again. And I'll leave out the weird factor. my opinions have changed on the CD now anyway. give me a day or two.
and a mausoleum is a bunch of tombs, I believe. |
non of the words are that uncommon, that's why the weirdness factor turned me off in this review
whata? "banked on memory/mummified circuitry/skin graft machinery/sputnik sickles found in the seats" "autonomous machete for hands" case closed. |
good album. bad review. hugheze eats coc k.
|
he uses an odd blend of decent vocab
it may not always make sense but the words he is using aren't that sophisticated |
A mausoleum is a tomb that looks like a small house or church. You can see them in any cemetery; they tend to stick out.

My favourtie ATDI album, I'd give it a 4.5/5 :D:D:D:D:)

At the Drive - In - Relationship of Command
Artist: At the Drive-In Label: Grand Royal Released: September 12, 2000 atdi is: vocals - Cedric Bixler Guitar - Omar rodriguez guitar - Jim Ward bass - Paul Hinojos Drums - Tony Haijar Track List: 1. Arcarsenal 2. Pattern Against User 3. One Armed Scissor 4. Sleepwalk Capsules 5. Invalid Litter Dept. 6. Mannequin Republic 7. Enfilade 8. Rolodex Proaganda 9. Quarantined 10. Cosmonaut 11. Non-Zero Possibility Arcarsenal Great intro song. it starts out with some macarenas and then the drums come in. a little later the guitar comes in with a cool riff, once the guitar hits a certain note. the song get harsh, fast and energetic. "i must have read a thousand faces" gets stuck in your head real quick, when cedric screams "beware" it just adds to the mood of the song 5/5 Pattern Against User first ATDI song i heard, probably my favorite. the words in this song sound totally different then what they really are. like when they say "pattern against user" it sounds like something totally different, this is like this on a lot of songs well some at least. because the lyrics to ATDI are very complex, and close to impossible to understand. Cedric really shows how good his voice is in this song hitting a lot of various notes very well 5/5 One Armed Scissor This is the most popular song by ATDI, its a really good song too. it starts out slow, then the chorus comes in, "cut away" "send transmission from the one armed scissor. " The instruments all fit together great just like in every other song. This song shows how far ATDI could have gone musically, with how they can change there music back and forth and still sound very good, the song ends with some ambient noise ... 5/5 Sleepwalk capsules probably the harshest song on this album, the lyrics pacifier pacifies, highchair crumbles unannounced" i think this song could be about a baby dying i am totally not sure, but it sounds really good one of the best songs on this cd. towards the end of the song it gets harder and more harsh and stays like that until the end 5/5 invalid litter dept. slowest song on the album, and the longest, the song is a little over 6 minutes. at first the song sounds horrible, but once you keep listening to it, the chorus of the song the verses of the song. they get to you, this song was about deaths in a certain city in mexico. 5/5 mannequin republic stars out hard, and it really shows there musically abilities. then cedric comes in singing almost rapping...kinda. this song is very fast at the beginning and mostly through out the rest of it but it slows down at certain parts. very good song. it doesnt sound like most songs on this album like the instruments sound different in my opinion 5/5 enfilade it starts out with some random phone call ****, that makes no sense what so ever. then the drums come in slowly, which gets the bass dropping in with a pretty sweet line. and cedric's voice comes in soundy almost like someone talking to you while there drowning, they even used some bongos in this song. soon later its the old ATDI, really nothing great about this song, but it fits good with the cd, this cd would be nothing if it was missing this song, or any other song 4/5 rolodex propaganda good song, it features iggy pop saying "manuscript replica" i would have never though iggy and ATDI coming together making a song, it sounds real sweet though 5/5 quarantined starts out with thunder, then a really awesome bass line drops in, anticipating the rest of the instruments to come, which they do. this song is kinda weird, like cedric's voice stands out more and the bass is more hearable. which is a good thing, this song is more of the softer side of ATDI. 4.5/5 cosmonaut pretty bad *** song, its a song that would sound really bad *** live. which i saw on a concert i downloaded but the real thing is always better, anyways this song sticks to hard sounding ATDI, cedrics lyrics are very hard to figure out on this song, well except on this chorus but that can be diffucult at times. 5/5 non-zero possibilty ok i was wrong i forgot about this song, this is the actual slowest song on this album, it has piano on it all the way through. i never really listen to this song the chorus gets very repetitive and the there is like a minute or more of just ambient noise. this is probably the only low point of this album 3/5 i give this album a 5/5 if they kept making music like this they would be rock gods. but the mars volta will always be there to take its place hopefully. this cd is the most energetic i have ever owned or heard. it tops any other ATDI album. |
killer music. the vocals are ok, but i dont like the lryics. The sound of the band is really well put together, but the lryics are just babble to me. There was no forethought, or time, or anything put into the lryics. I have often thought that the lyrics were generated by those lame 'band name generators'
|
no time put into the lyrics, ( i know this is like 2 months late) but atdi was all about lyrical bliss, just because ced. sings odd lyrics that may sound like mumbo-jumbo doesn't mean they are... if you ever saw the invalid video you would know how heartfelt the lyrics are, so dont be ignorant of your observations

My observations were not ignorant, I read all the lyrics, and to me (in my opinion,) they are randomly generated. Thats how I feel. I do not know what it means to be 'ignorant of my observations'. I was aware of my observations. I dont like the lyrics. I never said he didnt like his own lyrics. i said I didnt and that to me (in my opinion) they sound like mumbo-jumbo. Just because I write heartfelt lyrics does not mean its not babbling random nonsense. |
...
download the invalid litter dept. video and then read the lyrics, he obviously used some gayass GENERATOR thang and why are you saying u didn't like the lyrics when u have a tool avatar and maynard is the ****tiest writer ever |
r0und3r Patton has some messed up lyrics also..ATDI's lyrics take awhile to get use to..but once you do they are some of the most amazing

download the invalid litter dept. video and then read the lyrics, he obviously used some gayass GENERATOR thang and why are you saying u didn't like the lyrics when u have a tool avatar and maynard is the ****tiest writer ever
That is irrelevent. I like maynard's lyrics and Patton's, i just dont like atdi's lryics. Dont take it personal atdi come back, its just my opinion. Its not really that I dont like lyrics that are hard to understand or that dont make sense, I just dont like atdi's lryics. Your post doesnt make sense. Your saying i should like atdi's lryics just becuase maynard is a ****ty writer? if you want to say that i just dont understand the lyrics or that they go over my head is one thing, attacking another artist that I listen to just because I have a different opinion is a little childish dont you think? I never mean to claim that they actually used a name generator, thats just how much sense the lryics made to me. I have listened to all of relationship of command, and the tunes were awesome, i esp enjoyed quarantined, but i just do not dig the lyrics. Patton's lyrics are different, but not as weird, and 90 percent of FNM's songs are pretty easy to figure out. Maynard is a little harder to understand, but at least he sings in full sentences that even if I cant understand the whole meaning at least i can make sense of the sentences. |
5/5 Album. I had a few months of this was all I listened too.

Most of what the kidnapper says doesn't make much sense but it's not exactly just a "random phone call", since the song is about a kidnapping. I find this the easiest ATDI song to understand. |
5/5 Album. I had a few months of this was all I listened too.
Nice Maddox avatar. |
Awesome album! 4.5/5.
|
if youre an atdi fan....get in casino out. its better than relationship. for those that are just getting in to a legendary band, they put on one of the best live shows ever. period. dl a movie from kazaa of them performing one armed scissor...its funny how the 2 fros run off at the end, showing the separation in the band.
 on Conan, right? that was hillarious, first Omar hops behind the amps, then Cedric follows quickly. by the time Conan gets to the stage, he's practically shaking hands with Sparta. but both of them hopping away so fast reminded me of two little spastic men with mushrooms on their heads running from a monster. |
Mushrooms on their heads... What video game is that from? Earthbound?
Again, this album is awesome. |
Mushrooms on their heads... What video game is that from? Earthbound?
Again, this album is awesome.
i was thinking along the lines of Mario. |
Rolodex Propaganda is my favorite song on here. In my opinion it's also the strangest.
|
Invallid Litter Dept. and Quarantined for their emo-ness.
They used to irritate me a few years ago when I saw One-Armed Scissor on Channel V:p |
I got this album now, but I've already heard most of its songs and you can see my comments on them sprinkled throughout this review thread. So let me end with this:
G------------------------------------ D------------------------------------ A------------------------------------ E--777757-57757----333323-23323--- |
What riff is that from, YDload?

Best tab ever |
That's the bassline for the heavy part of "Invalid Litter Dept." and it's awesomeness. :)
|
Thanks RollerQueen. I figured that out myself, and the meat-and-potatoes of the intro to "Quarantined" as well. I figure if it involves the fifth and seventh frets for the most part, then it shouldn't be too hard to find out.

good album i like'd it
