This is probably the Deftones second best album....behind ATF. It's also probably the most beautiful and experimental one.

And BTW, the song Knife Prty isn't about a knife, it's about a shooting gallery. IN the beginning of the song, Chino says, "my knife, it's sharp and chrome". A chrome knife is another name for a syringe. The words "come see inside my bones" are referring to injecting yourself using a needle, and "I can float here forever" is referring to being high on drugs.

BTW, White Pony is a grade of Cocaine.

I like the album alot. Passenger kicks so much ***. Maynard is a vocal god.

its actually (in Chino's words) about a drunken night on the tour bus, where various members and roadies were randomly storming around parading knives.

I remeber hearing this a few years ago, and it stuck in my memory for being one of the weirdest inspirations for a song. Although any interpretaion for a song that is positive is a good one, li......wait, this isn't tool lyrics.

But it applies for all lyrics in general i say.

If you want to get even more anal about, haha, it's actually about Abe's knife collection when they were on the tour bus. But yeah man it's all good. Deftones are my favorite band of all time. I love all their s.hit, it's amazing :thumb:

I disagree. They were one of the best shows I've been to.

Amazing album, this is the album that got me into the band that is now my favorite band of all time. It's Deftones, just for the sake of clarity.

And they are so awesome live, I've seen them twice and they were progressively better shows. The thing is, Deftones could blow a performance (although they usually don't), but there's this aura around them and it's just amazing.

^^ True, true. A Deftones show is amazing. I've seen 'em 3 times.

White Pony is them at their best. I think the band missed the heavy overtones of Around the Fur, explored on White Pony, but tried returning back to heavier form on their self titled. I wish they'd further experiment with what they began with on White Pony. Maybe the new album will be a conglomeration of White Pony and the Self Titled disc.

Great review. Great album.
This is my favorite album from them, but all of their studio albums are indeed excellent...

... but God, do they blow live. Distortion++ and Chino's vocals live are a cacophony of awfulness.
Im guessing there's a good chance you are refering to the Wembley Arena show. If so, that one was the biggest case of 'sound guy should be fired or probably it was his last day' situation. Even then, Chino and co still put on a good show, even if the sound was terrible

The last time I saw them was while Chino was having major vocal problems. His throat was swollen, couldn't put himself up to screaming which, mind you, is about 65% of their songs. Needless to say, I was a bit disappointed.

Lumiere 12-26-2004 05:02 PM

Chino's voice is ****ed up beyond repair at this stage. He is now FORCED to sing properly - certainly not his strongest point.

Which is probably why their eponymous record sucked so bad.

I've seen footage of them live, but I've never been to one of there shows. I saw a video of them doing Digital Bath, and it was absolutely terrible. I also saw them do "Change" on Letterman, and that wasn't anytihng special either. On the other hand, I've seen videos of Feitciera, My Own Summer, and Lotion (My favorite Tones song) and they were absolutely jaw-dropping.
