adb 04-27-2011 12:43 AM

case study on the marketing of lipitor

illmitch 04-27-2011 12:45 AM

sounds pretty dumb

have to read an article about the ovids heroides 7 and how ovid parodies and imitates virgils aeneid and various poems by catullus and then summarize it to one page its dumb as fuck

Bitchfork 04-27-2011 12:59 AM

how long is the article?

illmitch 04-27-2011 01:02 AM

just 17 pages which is shorter than the other article i had to read for the class

its dumb as hell though, arguing that because ovid uses one single word, he's making reference to the use of that single word in another poet's body of work, and that this single word and the implications of the other poet's usage of it alter the meaning of the entire (almost 200 line) poem

basically it's reminding me why i hate academia

adb 04-27-2011 01:05 AM

lol reading

my article is like 4 pages

Bitchfork 04-27-2011 01:05 AM

And you guys thought I was pretentious

illmitch 04-27-2011 01:06 AM

i really like latin and greek, but hate classics academia for the most part, unless it's linguistic in nature

literary criticism in general is for the birds

illmitch 04-27-2011 01:07 AM

bitchfork you [i]are[/i] pretentious

Bitchfork 04-27-2011 01:08 AM

I get a free week off basically since I'm in all Soph/Junior classes and Juniors have ACTS tomorrow and Thursday. No school on Monday, school today was me skipping and I probably won't go on Friday because I have plans with a guy and since the school I go to doesn't notify your parents if you're absent (unless you're there for like 1 period and then you leave), I'm probably just going to spend the day at his house.

:o:o:o

illmitch 04-27-2011 01:12 AM

the writer has a lot of points that are questionable/straight up wrong tbh

Bitchfork 04-27-2011 01:14 AM

elaborate

Bitchfork 04-27-2011 01:14 AM

oh and while you're here illmitch how do you say feedback in arabic?

Bitchfork 04-27-2011 01:16 AM

and silence too.

illmitch 04-27-2011 01:16 AM

kinda hard to explain, but basically

the heroides are a series of poems written by classical heroines who were abandoned by their men

the one this article is analyzing is written by dido to aeneas, about whom the aeneid was written, so the writer is comparing the poem to the aeneid

he makes a reference to a line where in the text dido says "where will you have a wife who will love you like this?" and says it's evidence of dido "refer[ring]...to aeneas' future marriage with lavinia, of which dido can have no knowledge, but readers of the aeneid know very well"

i guess maybe he's correct, but it seems like dido is actually saying that aeneas WON'T have a wife in the future, which completely destroys the writer's argument

Bitchfork 04-27-2011 01:19 AM

I'm kind of siding with the author on this one because even though it's pessimistic in technical terms, the character seems to be hinting at the fact that he will find a wife somewhere in the future; the writer simply seemed to be trying to put in some irony, some foreshadowing and other shit like that.

illmitch 04-27-2011 01:19 AM

do you mean feedback as in commentary/response or as in electronic

silence is sukuut or samt

Bitchfork 04-27-2011 01:22 AM

electronic
kk thanks
:x:X:X

illmitch 04-27-2011 01:22 AM

"Barchiesi has remarked upon the close parallels between [the first person singular verb uror] and Vergil's description of Dido at 4.68, uritur [third person singular]. He notes that the shift from the third to the first person figures the shift in genres from epic to elegiac epistle."

I FUCKING HATE ACADEMIA

illmitch 04-27-2011 01:23 AM

cant find a word for electronic feedback, i dont have a technical dictionary or anything
