Smoking marijuana does not prevent someone from living a positive life. It may prevent a "clean" life, but clean to me simply means abstaining from anything harmful to your body. Nobody leads a clean life, there are toxins and harmful substances in many of the foods we eat for god sakes.
Well, some things we don't know about, but with marijuana you KNOW you're taking in a bunch of smokey crap.

Brain Toad 10-07-2005 01:19 PM
I think straight edge is kinda dumb, cause contemporary straight edge isn't what it was originally about. The way I look at it, straight edge was supposed to be about not letting drugs become a big part of you. And plus, why is there a label for people who don't do drugs but also happen to listen to Minor Threat?
There is still people who live by the orginal ideals of straight edge. I'm one of them, although I don't like Minor Threat. Good Clean Fun preaches (in a humourouse way) the orginal straight edge ideal

But staying drug free and alcohol free is a step towards it. And the toxins in a drug is a lot worse then some of the toxins in food.

When you eat a hamburger you don't know you're eating fatty, greased up meat? Smoking isn't the only way to ingest marijuana. It's true that inhaling any smoke is bad for you, but when you're smoking a PLANT, it's very minimal.

So, are you taking any new steps? What's your diet like? Do you stay away from the computer and TV more? Are you reading more books and other writings that your brain can benefit from?

I'm not talking about heroin or other hard drugs, I know how bad those are, and I'm never going to do them. What do you think is better (gonna use the hamburger example again), eating a juicy hamburger that may have many artificial ingredients in it, or smoking a plant (and a natural pain reliever)?

lynch_me 10-07-2005 01:48 PM

We put put chemicals into the ground which are then taken up by plants and animals, and brought into our bodies. the end

Shtein 10-07-2005 01:55 PM

Chemicals should be the least important issue of this conversation. Addiction and obesity are dangerous side affects of both.

I'm taking more steps. I don't watch TV, my computer time is mostly reading stuff, mainly Wikipedia. I've been weighing giving up caffeine in favour of other drinks, but its iffy because of the price.

Neither is good for you in the longrun, but nothing really is. But staying away from drugs, in my mind, feels better and feels safer, not only because of the chemicals, but also the culture, the legality of it, etc.

pedro durruti 10-07-2005 01:57 PM

Addiction? Marijuana addiction is all mental, you can get addicted to anything mentally.

Good for you. You just feel that the risks, though minimal, aren't worth it, right? In my opinion, to put it in economical terms, the marginal benefit of smoking weed GREATLY exceeds the marginal cost.

What do you mean by culture though? Haha, you have the most files out of I think everyone in the punk forum, what do you care about the legality of it? It's so easy to avoid getting caught.

Culture as in coming to get the weed. If you don't grow your own, you buy it from someone, which can put you in the drug culture, which to me isn't a safe place. And legality dealing with police because of drugs and dealing with lawyers because of file sharing is different.

Its all personal opinion, you don't think the risks of drug use are that great, and I think they are. I rather stay away from these type of things, and you think they enlighten you. I don't disrespect you because of it, I disrespect the drug more then the user.

pedro durruti 10-07-2005 02:11 PM

Yeah there are some sketchy people involved in the drug market but everyone who I've dealt with was a really nice guy.

lynch_me 10-07-2005 03:29 PM

drugs suck ballllls

Anti-Prefix 10-07-2005 03:36 PM

The whole drug thing is two sided just like everything else. But as far as "sketchy" people in the drug business whom "lace" their drugs go. That is very rare and if they do it's to the point where you would not even notice unless you have done the drug a considerable amount of times.

My mind is who I am, drugs alter your mind. Therefore I would rather not do them because I like who I am. I don't want to be someone else.

That's all. But I respect everyone, drugs or not.

I have said what you said many times before. Straight edge wasn't originally as hardline as it is today. Members of Minor Threat drank occasionally and had smoked weed but it wasn't a big part of their lives.

Now no more talking about drugs, it gay mmk?

Anxious 10-07-2005 06:16 PM

Brain Toad 10-07-2005 08:12 PM

I just got a cold all of a sudden, and it's gay. Plus a cold added to having to nearly run (one cannot actually run wearing a jacket, backpack, and steel toe boots) to catch an earlier bus because my class was canceled.

I did only have one class today though.

shane italian 10-07-2005 08:22 PM

I've had a cold for the past few weeks.

AIRIC 10-07-2005 08:35 PM

I walked in the rain to a gay football game.
