i have no copy of I&W at the moment :( but i'm getting a new one for £5, probably this week or next week.

Jev 05-07-2006 05:25 AM
He's secretly got a copy of I&W under his bed.
Maybe.
Or maybe he found mine and stole it

GenuineImitation 05-07-2006 05:56 PM
I sure hope that banner got on the DVD :D

I swear my dad was singing parts of Metropolis too.
I dunno where he's been listening to it though...
I hope the banner makes it on also.

I got my dad to headbang during The Root of All Evil.

ghettoeddo 05-07-2006 07:36 PM

i remember the intro TROAE.
it was absolutely orgasmic. props to DT for one of the greatest intros.

and who's their lighting director? he's fantastic, really

Haha that's awesome.

Yeah TROAE sounds so great live.

A7X_Theater_88 05-08-2006 07:49 AM

Do they ever play the glass prison live? because it isn't on any of their live DVDs.. that is one song i would love to see live, it has such a wiked intro

Lord Abortion 05-08-2006 09:24 AM

Yeah, apparently they played it on Gigantour last year.

Jev 05-08-2006 09:26 AM

I always thought they played it quite a lot. I had a live video of it but deleted it.
Myung was wearing jeans

Hollywood Rose 05-08-2006 10:05 AM

What's your favorite DT album?

Lord Abortion 05-08-2006 10:07 AM

Images and Words.

Jev 05-08-2006 10:08 AM

Mine would probably be WDADU at this moment. Not very many people like it but I love the riffs, the melodies, the bass, guitar, keyboard and drum solos. I even love the singing.

Prince of Darkness 05-08-2006 10:18 AM

It's not a simple question.

It's between SFAM, Awake, Images & Words, or Train of Thought.

Not easy.

Jev 05-08-2006 10:22 AM

Indeed I had a difficult choice seeing as there's about 5 I could consider my favourite.

Roo_bass 05-08-2006 10:55 AM

At the moment Awake is my favourite album, Labrie's vocals sound great as does the rest of the band. Also it has "Space-dye Vest", "Scarred", "Lifting Shadows Off A Dream", "Caught In A Web" and "Lie"; just a whole bunch of awesome songs.

Clunge 05-08-2006 10:56 AM

Hohoh, I've converted someone to the DT cause .

GenuineImitation 05-08-2006 01:37 PM

Congrats on this accomplishment.

Lets drink to it :chug:
Do they ever play the glass prison live? because it isn't on any of their live DVDs.. that is one song i would love to see live, it has such a wiked intro
I believe they play it alot. Just because it isn't on a DVD, doesn't mean they don't play it. Portnoy makes sure each city never gets the same show twice. The cities where they filmed the DVD may have had TGP a year or two earlier.

Lord of Sword 05-08-2006 02:08 PM

I think Mike's leaving it for another DVD. They usually try and have unique setlists for every live release aswell as gig, and he has to save something for future DVDs.

As for my favourite album, probably SFAM or 6DOIT, I just prefer the sound and feel of those albums. Awake and I&W would be close behind though, then 8va, FII and ToT.

MRDuCran 05-08-2006 02:23 PM

I used to have a perfect quality video of The Glass Prison live.
It's probably on youtube somewhere.

Hollywood Rose 05-08-2006 02:54 PM

Yeah I like I&W too.

Jev 05-08-2006 03:15 PM

Oh I have a live in paris bootleg with TGP on it also.

Chu 05-08-2006 07:49 PM

I love Awake.. Mmm riffs :)

Petrucci's solos don't often do much for me, his riffs are where it's at, and Awake is riffalicious.. I don't care about any other instrument, they just add to Petrucci's classiness.

But his solo in Lie just gets me, every time...

In YtseJam, is the first solo uber-guitar shred or keyboard shred? Cause that first bend also gets me in bad ways, sitting on the bus and YtseJam comes on.. I just can't help it :x

What after it speeds up?
Keyboard

It took me some time to notice but they all solo after each other.

marc man 05-09-2006 02:30 AM

Yeah, this is my first time posting in here and I would just like to say that Dream Theater are'nt just great, there one of the best bands of there time.

It take quite alot of skill to be able to play songs like houner thy father and it takes even more skill to make it as long as that.

Only have Ytse Jam on my iPod, so I can't tell you what time the solo happens at..
But it's a helluva 80's sounding bend, it's so good, the shred after it is so fast and flat (as in, no vibrato/bend), I'll assume keyboard, but you never know with Mr. JP, he is a machine after all.

Lord Abortion 05-09-2006 04:44 AM

It's a great song, but I prefer the WDADU stuff that gets done on Live at the Marquee...because it's James.

Jev 05-09-2006 09:23 AM

Charlie's vocals don't sound too great on Metropolis. Glad they got James.

Beat this. I live about 5 minutes away.

I may take pictures of the high school he went to if you guys are curious.

Nah, its a keyboard (they play it on Live In Tokyo.) Thanks for the vids you posted a few pages back.

Charlie is a good vocalist, but he makes me cringe at times. I agree that LaBrie makes WDADU sound better.

He dosen't sound bad on the WDAD Reunite bootleg

I agree. He sounds better on the bootleg than the cd. I think he is good, but some times his voice annoys me.

nowitzki 05-09-2006 07:07 PM

GenuineImitation banned, I'm shocked!

The Fonz 05-09-2006 07:15 PM

'sup thread.

So in one of my classes we have to make a silk screen shirt, So i'm gonna do the majesty logo. Sweet, amirite? I'd do something more, but it has to be just black, and simple. no grey, no nothing. black. lol.

Random topic: What do you guys think of DT lyrics, any lyrics. I remember listening to "the spirit carries on" and i was :amaze:.

Edit: the point of the smiley would be better be represented by :droppedjaw: or

Deth 05-09-2006 08:09 PM

I like the lyrics that aren't stupid like "Honor Thy Father". For the most part I think they are well written.

ghettoeddo 05-09-2006 09:57 PM

NOO GENUINE!!!!

i'd like that picture of his high school when you get back prease :]

NP: octavarium
the ending solo is...perfect. i can't put it without sounding cliché...it's just so damn epic.
i love the medicate section too. definitely one of their finest songs. ever.

Jev 05-10-2006 02:36 AM

Agreed. Mp's lyrics as a whole are pretty meh.

Enlighten Me 05-10-2006 03:17 AM

Does everyone in the band switch off writing lyrics?

badtaste 05-10-2006 04:26 AM

Anyone heard the Ytse Jam piano version? It is simply amazing. That is one of piece I would like to learn before I die.
