Agreed.
With that, I am off. |

I actually had The Mantle by Agalloch in my clutches for a month or two. It's definetly mood music. You'd listen to this album for 6 months and when summer hits the dust would just eat it up. I honestly feel Opeth are a warmer band, but thats opinionated.
Opeth play the death-metal parts with more oomph in my opinion |
more oomph?
Opeth is Nature/Season music. every album has a different season feel for me. np: Arcturus - Star Crossed |
Just bought Morningrise... this better be good!
:Shakes fist: |
Just bought Morningrise... this better be good!
:Shakes fist:
It will. Advent owns. |

I know that now  |

As does To Bid You Farewell. |
I've said this before, but I love the acoustic work on Morningrise, but other than that, I really don't like it much. The electric guitars are boring and cheesey-sounding in my opinion.
Just bought Morningrise... this better be good!
:Shakes fist:
You'll like Black Rose Immortal. It's such an epic song. |
I've heard a lot of people say Black Rose Immortal is a good song but i've never heard it. Can someone send it to me? ObsoL33T@hotmail.com if you can
|

The acoustic work on Morningrise is great. To Bid You Farewell is one of my favorite songs. I don't really mind the electric parts though, I think they're pretty good too. |
I love the bass sliding part in Advent. It rapes.
K I have a dillema. There's a talent show, and auditions are on Tuesday. I was originally going to play Portrait of Tracy by Jaco for it, but I realized...it's wayyy too hard for me. lolol. Anyway, I decided that I'm either going to drop out, play Deliverance (I'd be doing bass and vocals and there'd be backing tracks going over the PA since nobody likes death metal) or Death's "The Philsopher." Here's the dillema: besides Philsopher having somewhat difficult bass parts during some of it, I have to learn all of the song on bass and vocals. I know all of Deliverance, vocals and bass, but there's a 3 minute timelimit on each act. The problem with that is there's 9 acts including me, and I doubt a few will make it. So do the math. If all 9 make it and they all stick to the 3 min limit, 9*3 = 27 minutes. I doubt they'll all stick to the timelimit, so let's say two of them go for 10 minutes each and I do Deliverance, that's 34 + 18 = 52 minutes. So I dunno which I should do. For the record, I'm not exactly on the coordinator's good side either (she's my music teacher and I screw off in her class all the time) so that could count against me, if she decides that she's gonna pull the plug on me during auditions or the actual performance. |
3 minutes? What the hell is up with that?
You could always try to take the best parts of the song, and make it 3 minutes...even though it's kinda unholy, it's still Opeth. Or, you could bring in your own powersource, so if your teacher tries to pull the plug on you, you could just keep jamming. :thumb: |
Nah, it's not the powersource, I'm basically taking a backing track and having them play it through the PA and I'm playing over the PA as well.
Chopping Deliverance up into 3 minutes would be horrible. heh. |
Or, since you're doing vocals, you could always just do the vocal parts...
I dunno, somehow Opeth and 3 minutes go together like Michael Jackson and a girl. |
The Philosopher is so fun to play.
Yeah, don't butcher Opeth. |
Say you're playing something else. It's not like anyone will stop you as you're playing.
|
Say you're playing something else. It's not like anyone will stop you as you're playing.
If he goes on for 13 minutes in a school talent show, yes they will, and he would deserve it. A three minute limit is a little harsh, but don't get out of control like that. The average person at a school talent show doesn't want to hear Deliverance, either. They will hate you. Trust me on this. |
Yeah, play a condensed version of something like Death Whispered a Lullaby
|
Or a good Damnation song, like Windowpane or In My Time of Need. :p
|
Death Whispered a Lullaby is a great Damnation song.

Why do you hate like every good Opeth song? DWAL would be awesome. It's pretty catchy, good song, not TOO much over the limit... |

DWAL would be awesome. It's pretty catchy, good song, not TOO much over the limit...
I just don't like the chorus to thats song, Godheads Lament is good, but nothing amazing, and I don't like the clean vocals that Steven Wilson does in Bleak. :) |
and I don't like the clean vocals that Steven Wilson does in Bleak. :)
WHAT!?..I love Bleak that is like one of my favorite songs... it's not all about screaming your head off all the time... it's what is best for the song in how they see fit... and I love what they did so....there it is plus I love PT so that might be why I love this song even more but still I like what they did. |

Steven's singing on Bleak annoyed me at first. It sounded off from the rest of the song on the first couple of listens but it really grew on me. It's now one of my all time favorite Opeth tracks. I later got into Porcupine Tree because of that song :) |
Bleak was amazing live. It got a huge reception.
Another quote from Mikeal - "We're thinking about stopping being a progressive death doom band and becoming a boy band." |
Opeth as a boyband.... that would be very... odd...
|
He said they couldn't do it though because they're ugly.
*Wearing brand new Opeth shirt * |
Another quote from Mikeal - "We're thinking about stopping being a progressive death doom band and becoming a boy band."
 You know there's gonna be a bunch of tr00 Op3th l337 fans saying "OMG OPETH IZ @B@NDONING TEH TR00 METUHL!!!!" It's great to see they have a sense of humor. |
Gotta mention to you guys......does anyone here listen to Devin Townsend's stuff? Not even talking about Strapping Young Lad, but his solo work.......specifically his album Terria, I must recommend to you metal junkies. After a couple listens all I could think of was "Opeth on Prozac".
Worth checking. |
I've been meaning to check his solo stuff out, just never have...
|
So...Opeth concert last Wednesday the 9th.
Into Eternity openned. I had never heard any of their stuff but they sounded pretty damn good. The singer has a killer power metal scream. A good openning band to say the least. Then Nevermore hit the stage and started blowing the place up. Excellent performance on their part. Loomis' solo and lead work was flawless and Dane sounded great as well. The highlight being when they played the title track off This Godless Endeavor, something I wasn't expecting them to play. It sounded so sweet that I had goosebumps through the whole song. Finally Mikael and crew hit the stage, openning with Baying of the Hounds. I don't recall the exact setlist but its the same as or similar to the ones others have posted. Anyway, it was amazing. Everyone was spot on playing wise, except Lindgren made a minor error in the beginning of Bleak...Oh well. Sorry I'm not better at elaborating on the show, but down to the point, it was stellar. Best concert I've been to yet, and all three bands contributed to that rating. |
Yay....I can't wait for Nevermore tonight!!
Already got my Opeth dose a month ago or so, now it's time for my Nevermore. |

I finally decided on The Philosopher or Flesh and the Power it Holds (both Death songs), heh. I'll probably do Philosopher because it's shorter and won't hurt my hand as much.
I would do a song like In My Time of Need, but I can't cleanly sing. At all. I'm a baritone or a bass, I dunno, but my clean singing is horrible. I can barely sing the clean parts in Deliverance right :P Oh well, regardless I wanna do DM. I got a long night, tonight, heh |

Although doing Portrait of Tracy would be badass (it's challenging and the middle to end can get a little tricky). Ha, but good luck with that, man. pwn those ****ers! |
