I finally got around to checking out these casual threads. But it's bed time. Nighty night mx.
|
Every one is alseep. where is joe when i need him. :(
|
I'm awake.. sept not on aim.
Talent quest judging was fukced as. We played awesome, crowd loved us and they gave first to some chick that sang 1000 miles out of key and with a backing tape that had singing as well. She even forgot some bits and stopped singing while the tape still went.. I don't know what the judges were fkucking thinking, maybe they didn't notice her NOT SINGING!! Hopefully we still get into the final to play something like YYZ. |
Haha dude yeah talent stuff is fucked. I think its more of a pity thing than a talent thing...
|
I hate judges, they never do a good job, thats where bribing comes in. :thumb:
|
 Well, I played a bit of bass this morning, but now I have to go to work! I work as a supermarket cashier :( oh well, it pays the petrol for uni. Anyone have an exciting job?
|
I'm listening to Johnny Cash. I am so rad...
And on a further update, I jsut want to let all the late nighters that I no longer have a comp at work. The nazis took it away... so yeah. Bummer, considering that last night went by slooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow. joe |
Not I. In fact, my two jobs are both pretty dull. I get to lord over the students in the computer commons during the weekdays, and answer questions/reset passwords/etc. at the Computer Help Desk at the hospital on the weekends.
The nice thing about the hospital gig is that it's REALLY quiet most of the time, and since its the weekend and I'm there all by myself I can bring in my bass (sans amp) and practice. So its all good. |
That's cool, I'd get fired if they saw round here with my bass. Legal Nazis.
|
I’m actually in school right now, the teacher is right next to me, haha-but I’m still on MX! I swear, I spend more time on here in school than I do at home. I just finished a frickin’ history paper that is due next hour, so now I’m day dreaming about my new Ibanez BTB406QM. Ooo I can’t wait. :thumb: I have to work this weekend, on a sidenote…this blows. I work at a resturant/bakery, and I’m being trained to be a waiter. I’m gonna screw up so bad. I’m so not looking forward to it. Least I have a new bass to get me through the hard times!

Casual 10.. Bass Zen
Well here we are, 10 weeks into our casual thread. Sorry if I haven't been very prominent in the past few casual threads... Things are pretty wild around here I suppose.
My dad is in the hospital right now. (this is a good thing) See, we don't have health insurance... the next part in treating and diagnosing my father's cancer is he needs an ultra sound... to determine what stage the cancer is in. Which will determine what type of treatment plan he'll have. But because of our lack of insurance.. no one will talk to us about getting an ultra-sound. I've always known that the American health care system blew ***... I've been the victim of it since I was 18.. That's the last time I had health insurance. (now almost 25) and I'm one of those people who needs health insurance because of my mental health, and also because of my crappy immune system.... but now with the case of my father, it's life and death. And I certainly don't like being in this situation...It just brings even newer light to the system that I've already deemed abso****inglutely ____ (insert your own words here) SO... we lied. We took my dad to the hospital and told him he couldn't swallow anything thicker than water (which actually isn't too far from the truth.. he's been living on soup, pudding, protien drinks, etc) So they were FORCED to admit him and give him the **** ultrasound! This will also push the medical card issue... he was denied it the first time because we have too much money in the back.. money that is being used to buy a house.. and we absolutely must move as our house has been sold. In other aspects of my life... I have something very interesting going on... A few weeks ago, while working retail at my store, an older man called.. he needed back ground music for his grandaughter, who was making a demo CD. Now, we had all the songs that he wanted (basically we are talking Karaoke backgrounds) but they were all on separate CD's.. which would cost him alot of money. So I told him that he could go directly to the company's site and order a custom CD. He didn't use computers... so I gave them the phone number. A week later, he called again, and said that the company wont take custom orders over the phone (wtf?) so I found him another company who would do it. A few days later a Pizza and huge bottle of Mountain Dew was delivered to my work for me  Then he comes in with music to a song that was not available in karaoke. So I took the music and made background midi of it. Now what is happening is he asked if I wrote music, which of course I do, so he asked if I would write a song for his grand daughter for the demo CD. He's got a lot of connections... his grandaughter might be singing at the Kimmel Center (the major philadelphia concert venue).. and basically if this works out, I might have a semi song writing career happening... (he even promised me the rights to all the songs I make) and he said that when my band got together, he would have no problems hooking me up with his connections. :) I've written the song, I need to record it now... It's country... (not my favorite genre) but it's good. So.. I now must go pack some boxes. Have at it. LR |

|
I hope everything works out with your dad, and with that guy with the connections. As I told Coffee, don't forget about us little people on your way to the top :thumb:
I've got a gig near philly today, which is pretty cool consider we're based in harrisburg. I get to spend 2 hours in a van with the band, which is going to be.."intresting" to say the least. I spent a lot of time this past week playing World of Warcraft stress beta (which is awesome btw) and generally ignoring the real world. Struck me yesterday that next week is my last week, and I have a pass or fail paper due monday, already failed one class, dropped out of another and have a final in the last on tuesday. Yay for stress :upset: Least I've got this band to look forward to. Hope everyone has a good day today. A lot of people need it :thumb: |
^^^ what kinda music your band play? good luck with that esp! vans rule! well my band has just split up, i want to wipe everything from the website and i need a catchy phrase to basically say that dunce (band name) is no longer...
any ideas? im quite glad we split up, i hate my band members, just it gave me something to do on sundays. But this year i have loads of work to do so we are breaking up. We have £50 left from the band to share and we are selling the mic, stand and cable for £30 to another band (hopefully!) so now im looking for a new one! i want something like a funk/metal band (north east england, i live in durham. anything around that, just want some decent musicians to play with!) heres my post from casual 9, i was the last poster so no one will see it: im happy today, im usually really miserable with school, people, etc. but im in a good mood im currently watching blue peter... no idea why! I found out last night that matt freeman also plays double bass! I wouldn't mind seeing what he plays on it! Dont worry LR these things work out , as in the word's of Buddha , the universe will unfold in a way of the best. And the man only spoke of truth. Good Luck!

Good question, I've been asked this numerous times and last night we (me + lead guitarist + drummer) talked about it last night. We've pretty much decided that we fit no real genre right now. The drummer is pretty adamant on the idea of not being labeled either. But it is hard to label us, since we want each album to be different. And not different as in going from screamo to hardcore to punk, but going from punk to jazz (I've got a lot of work to do this one though :upset: ) to classical back to rock etc...We're working on a reggae piece. So, I hope that answers that question. We play music, simple as that :thumb: |
nice man! that just gets you 1000 respect points from me! ;) :thumb:
what do people use for artificial drums? fruityloops or something? i want a good one but free and easy to use, and how would i record it into a recording? (ive got a soundblaster live!) |
Sounds like things are on the up, LR! Best of luck with everything, as ever.

I thought of the same thing for my side project :) It's nice to write from all styles of music.. In my main band we are getting ready to go into recording of our first album :P We already have 2 tracks down on our website www.difficile.net if interested :thumb: |
To slef: PAGE ONE!!! :D  :chug: :upset:
To LR: I hope life is good and stable. Best wishes. |
^^^cool man :thumb:
I want a band like that... my day has just been ruined... my baby (minidisc player) has died today. that means no music when im out for weeks and weeks. I may have a funeral in my garden. :P :( |
Thanks guys! And guess what? Good news!
So The cat scan of my father is still clean (meaning the cancer is no where else) and also his lymph nodes are clean (which is abolutely wonderful as well) ... lymph nodes are a part of your immune system and you have a lot of them... when cancer spreads to the lymph nodes, it can be very deadly. But ALSO.. so the doctor looks at the ultrasound and goes "I don't know what that other doctor saw, but this isn't esophegial cancer... it's in your stomach." FYI, Esophegial cancer is a very difficult cancer, and is chemo resistant. Stomach cancer is very easy to cure. :) wOOt LR |
How do you mix up the throat the stomach?
The news gets better and better! *Drinks an ale in celebration* |
Wow LR, that's really encouraging! My dad just had colon cancer surgery earlier this year and it had spread to some of his lymph nodes, so they took those as well and he's going through chemo as we speak... he's almost done, though, and doing really well.
*does a little dance of happiness with LR* |
That's great news LR ... I'm happy for you.
