Yamaha APX series.
Also, sup lod. |
If you want an acoustic that plays more like an electric, buy an ovation.
If you want an acoustic that doesn't sound like shit, put some heavier strings on your electrics and man up, you pussies. Light strings and thin necks are two factors you want nowhere near your acoustic tone. They will ruin it and you'll have a muddy bass with tinny highs and no sustain. |
i just use 10's on my acoustics and they sound lovely, one's a takamine EAN40C and the other's a gibbo advanced acoustic so you don't quite need to spill blood to get a good tone! but take your pick of guitars around the same price as the yamaha apx's, they're all decent.

Joe Satriani is playing in newcastle tomorrow, if you havnt gotten a ticket yet, get one, should be about £30, definitly a cool show
|
Oh for fucks sake, Acoustic Lod? Fuck that. I'm really not a fan of acoustic guitars, but I think that's because I've spent years around people that think they're musicians because they can play the same 4 chords that make up every Oasis song.

Decent yes. Great? Not really. Acoustic guitars live or die by things like the lightness of the bracing, and the lighter the bracing the better the tone because of the free vibration of the top being balanced out by the strengthening effect of the bracing. Most guitars are braced for 12s, so they'll sound best with 12s, thinner with 10s, and you'll eventually warp the top with much higher than that. As the tension pulls the bridge plate forward. There are lots of techniques to improve this, by lightening the braces enough to improve vibration, techniques like Babicz guitars distributed string anchors, or the Neutral tension bridge by Rick Toone, even carbon fiber lattices in the tops, married to extremely thin soundboards by Jim Redgate. All of them aim to be able to use stronger strings on lighter soundboards so as to increase volume and response. Its an essential part of acoustic tone - If your strings aren't matched to how heavy the bracing is, you'll lose response and volume, along with parts of your nice even guitar tone. You can get away with other things, but the design itself lends itself to matching the gauges to the bracing of the top. There are also other things, like neck angle and saddle standup, all of which can help with directing the strings energy into the top. |
well i'll rephrase that then, the gibbo sounds awesome even with 10's (elixirs) on them. i shall be using it on some recordings very soon so i'll post it for all to hear when completed.
i'm aware of the mechanics of it all, the gibbo was strung with steel hawsers when i got it, restrung with my usual 10's to no loss in sound quality to my ears. altho i'll check, i'm pretty sure i've got 10's on there unless i've got brave.. |

Which does the Lod think I should go for:
Option 1: Buy 46" TV that will be my living room TV when I get my own place, but will pretty much take up a wall in my room currently. Option 2: Buy 40" TV that will fit better in my room, and will remain my bedroom TV after I move. |

I play guitar... play PC/360/PS3 games... hang out with friends in and outside of work. Though I don't see where you get me deciding on getting a new TV such a trivial thing. My old one is like 5 years old, 32", only 720p, and a crappy 60Hz refresh. In comparison to people I know I hold on to things for a while. |
