Bosphorus Traditional Series may be you kind of thing, ditto Istanbul Agop Trad series.

This guy's got the right idea. He's sexy as well.

Mike Goes Numb 09-05-2007 08:08 PM

Holy jesus phil, those are gorgeous.

Edit: The 13" k custom dark hats sound pretty good. 14" byzance dark hats sound like sex, hopefully I can try them out sometime in my shop.

Drum Phil 09-06-2007 01:23 AM

They're visually and aurully pleasing in every possible way.

Orally? Oh wait, i guess that would be when you are saying it, not hearing it.

Firefox says that it is aurally.

I'm looking for a cymbal pack for practice at home. I play heavy metal. I was having a look at the Sabian AA Metal X Box set (20 Ride, 16 crash, 14 Hats), and the Zildjian ZHT Rock cymbal pack. I could get the Zildjian pack £40 cheaper than the Sabian. Does anyone have any experience with these and could offer their opinions?

Thanks.

It depends on how each set sounds to you, but each has its pros and cons.

The Sabian set is a pro set, being AA, however, being Metal X, it may not be versatile. You may play heavy metal now, but it's always nice to have the option.

The Zildjian set is B12 alloy, which isn't a bad thing per se, but the general consensus is that B20 alloy gives the richest sound. Being of 'Rock' stock, they may, or may not be thinner than the Metal-X's, and so may be more versatile.

Personally, I'd really recommend getting pro level cymbals, one piece at a time, but that's just me.

Mike Goes Numb 09-07-2007 04:29 PM

Oh, so Phil, I assume the dark hats sound just as sexy open, yes? I'm hoping so.

What do you guys think of the 20" Zildjian Oriental China?

drummguy731 09-08-2007 10:14 PM

Classic or Trash? The Classic has an amazingly warm and trashy sound. It's a huge sounds that swells up and is almost a soft kind of china. I absolutely love mine and recommend checking them out.

Daven 09-09-2007 09:42 AM

Sorry, its the Thrash China.

MeaninglessPhoto 09-10-2007 11:25 PM

I have the 18". Its quite trashy and loud and semi bright but more dark. So the 20" might be darker and louder with a longer decay.

I would look at the Sabian XS20 set, it is similar to ZHT price wise. If you're going for AAs they are considered "pro", i.e. higher price and quality, but they're good cymbals, thjough personally as someone already said I would go for something more versatile, e.g. the AA 'normal' set (AA medium thin crash, medium ride, regular hats) or AAX set (stage ride, stage crash, stage hats), and they will still be amazing for playing metal. I think there may be also an "AA rock set" with AA rock hats and crash and some sort of ride, but I could be wrong, it has been known (!).
Sorry, its the Thrash China.
The china trash has a very short decay from what I remember and a very 'trashy' sound, if that at all helps

i use a AAX stage ride (20") and a AAX stage crash (18"). the crash would be great for metal, but i dont really see the ride being used for metal, imo. you could deff use it for metal, but i wouldn't.

bobby__johnny 09-18-2007 05:48 PM

i love my 16" AAX Stage crash

oliv_da_skinmasher 09-19-2007 12:42 AM

I'm not as keen on the stage stuff. I much prefer the studio ones

I just found a shop near me selling Bosphoros, Istanbul Agops AND Mehmets! Awesome!

the_pure_drummer 09-20-2007 12:27 PM

Recently cracked my B8 crash. Ive had it for 3 years and i batter it shitless. But i have good technique i think it's just wear of a poor cymbal that cracked it. It's about half a cm long the crack.

Looking for:

Thin crash
Medium Decay
Open's up pretty easily and well
About 16" or 17".

Ideas?

I want it to explode!

ant_182 09-20-2007 12:33 PM

17" A Custon crash, for the explosion, projection?

Drum Phil 09-20-2007 12:56 PM

17" AAXplosion.
16" K Custom Fast Crash?

Even though they're hard to find, my Amedia crash is paper thin, has a decent decay, and opens up pretty well....its is fairly dark, though. And its an 18".
