Anyone read the interview with Waters in the new issue of Rolling Stone? I found it quite interesting.

MBS 08-02-2005 05:05 PM

I just listened to Echoes again. That is seriously perfection in a song.

WheepingGuitar39 08-02-2005 05:05 PM
That is a lie. Gilmour has gone record saying that he comes up with a bunch of licks and keeps the ones he likes, then pieces them together to create his solos. Dave also sings the guitar parts sometimes, then transfers the notes to his guitar, to avoid being "locked up" by any visual guitar style. Saying that he doesn't think twice about his phrasing is just wrong. Also I know he is very "emotional" but my main point was refuting the "I get the notes right, but the emotion is another thing". Chances are if complex phrasing = emotion like you said then people wouldn't be saying that because they are reading his notes off a **** tab.
it's those freakin bends man
Gilmour is the BEND KING
emotion = bend
lolol

What did he say?

Riva 08-02-2005 05:20 PM

Yeah, I'd be interested in what he had to say, also.

moaner 08-02-2005 05:35 PM

riva, would you put pigs (3do) explanation on first post?

Riva 08-02-2005 06:04 PM

Bugger, sorry I completely forgot. It's about two pages back, no?

All done.;)

zetabossio 08-02-2005 06:14 PM

who recorded the piano in the final cut. does roger play the piano?

Riva 08-02-2005 06:15 PM
who recorded the piano in the final cut. does roger play the piano?
I'm fairly certain it was Roger... let me check my CD.

EDIT: Michael Kamen is credited for playing it, but I'm sure ROger played a part in composing it.

Roger probably wrote the piano part, Kamen probably just played it.

pigonthewing82 08-02-2005 07:38 PM
I don't like playing solos exactly the way they are recorded. It's not the same amount of feeling in it then... It's much funnier to play your own way.
Yeah I do that a lot too. In fact I only know a couple key licks from the second solo in Comfertably Numb and Money, the rest is all improv.

Riva 08-02-2005 08:25 PM

A lot of people love covers which are tone and note perfect copies of the original. To me, if the artist doesn't add something special, it isn't worth recording.

That being said, the Scissor Sisters can go to hell.

Marzcho 08-02-2005 08:26 PM
I was improve a little bit on Time. Most people really dig it, but my old rhythem guitarist constantly whines about it. *sighs* he can't even begin to play that solo either.

I agree that in the first comfortably numb solo there isn't much need to improve. Like clown said, It's such a short, reconizable solo. Why change a good thing?
Well. I think that whatever you decide to do will be good.

ATM 08-02-2005 08:37 PM

So is a new Pink Floyd DVD coming out?

I heard something like that on the radio.

Scooch 08-02-2005 08:42 PM
So is a new Pink Floyd DVD coming out?

They're probably talking about "Pulse", it's been out on VHS for a while.

Riva 08-02-2005 08:44 PM
They're probably talking about "Pulse", it's been out on VHS for a while.
Yeah, we're waiting for it to be released on DVD, but Dave keeps delaying it for various reasons. :(

Well the DVD they were probally talking about was Pulse, but Pink Floyd's Live 8 preformance will be put on a complitation dvd (speacial features include on commercials cutting the solo in Comfertably Numb). I can't wait for that one.

The cover DT did of Hey You isn't bad at all either. I've heard other covers of that song, and it seemed as if those times the bands only goal was to reproduce it using their own style, and they turned out dry and bland. DT's still manages to hold on to some of the emotion the original had, compared to those other ones anyway. Still doesn't even come close to the original.

Unfortunately, it cuts off at the end.

DeusExMachina 08-02-2005 09:22 PM

I haven't downloaded that, but did you get it off a p2p server, by any chance? If so, chances are, it isn't by DT. There was a supposed DT cover of Hey You and Comfortably Numb circulating on the interweb for awhile, but they turned out to just be live versions by Pink Floyd.

Kingofdudes 08-02-2005 09:27 PM

That "hey you" is legit

Legit as in by DT?

It definitely sounds like DT, and it's also a very nice cover.

DeusExMachina 08-03-2005 10:44 AM

Yeah, I just downloaded it, it does sound like them. I really don't like his vocals, but it was cool.

eat_a_peach 08-03-2005 12:39 PM

EDIT: Nevermind :)

robo2448 08-03-2005 05:52 PM

I'm really obsessed with Pigs right now. Ever since somebody uploaded those live performances of it, I've listened to it all the time. Both the live and studio versions. What an amazing song.

Yeah I love that solo they put in it, in your live preformances of it do you have the one where sombody lights a fire cracker and Roger flips out.
