he probably has all the hookups though so he could get you more and in tons of different colors.
True. He'd probably make me pay for it, though. He get's a discount from Sevens, though. Unless it's left over or in our garage or something, it's not free.

Hmm...I have a bit of a problem because I don't know what to do here.
I want to take some artwork by Nick Blinko (Rudimentary Peni) and sew it onto my jacket...not just sew on a patch; I want to have it so the thread actually makes the lines. So I need to find some way to temporarily transfer the design to a black denim jacket in a 100% accurate way, that won't come out quickly but I can still wash it out or something.
If nothing else, I'll have to take tracing paper, pin it onto my jacket and sew over it and rip it off later...but that's a last resort.

Golan 05-17-2006 06:46 PM

Just ask, the idea that you are interested in paint may be enough to get you it.

What colour is the patch material? You could use a felt-tip pen and sew over the design. I think the tracing paper idea would be hard and impractical, it'll rip off too easily in the middle of sewing and you would lose yourself.

ratsinthecity403 05-17-2006 06:58 PM

There is no patch...and I can't use a pen to draw the design on because it's really high detail and I can't get that accurate. Example:
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000001V1V.01._AA240_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

That's pretty much why I don't want to use tracing paper though. And it might get stuck and not rip out from under the thread well.

That would look pretty cool.
Just trace the picture on with a pen and sew over it, as said before.

Holy Jesus in High Hells! You want to draw that out on a jacket WITH THREAD?

I don't completely understand. Are you planning to embroider?

Because it can be done, but the image you want will be very difficult. My mom hand-embroidered this image of elton john http://img.timeinc.net/time/magazine/archive/covers/1975/1101750707_400.jpg and it looks sweet.

Basically, what she did was she drew on the image by hand, labeling the colors, and then just... sewed. However, that image you picked seems extremely difficult to duplicate by hand.

The only thing I can really think of is print out the image onto paper. From there, sew the paper onto the material. Then sew over the paper. The paper will either be completely covered up, or you can like... rip it out when it's done. Not sure how that would work out.

I can assure you that doing that will take a very, very long time.

coheneran 05-17-2006 07:29 PM

I hate to disappoint you dude, but if you want to have that much detail and only use black, white and grey, the final product will probably look like a jumble of strings and knots, unless you are very skilled at sewing. You could try just the general outline though, and some of the more prominent shapes that are on the inside.

Flagjacket 05-17-2006 07:35 PM

What the **** is that supposed to be?

Anarcho Poser 05-17-2006 09:07 PM

That will be tremendously difficult and time consuming.

The only way I could think of is to, as has been said, sew it through the paper, unless you can find some sort of temporary iron-on paper.

I was going to hand embroider something once, but I decided it was going to take a very lot of effort -- effort which I wasn't ready to put forth.

Zorg 05-17-2006 09:19 PM

I cut up my too small Joy Division shirt and safty pinned the Unknown Pleasures design around my arm. I probably look like an idiot and dont' know it.

Not sure if I can get pics tonight. Tomorrow for sure though.

POINTLESS5448 05-18-2006 05:15 AM

mullets suk 05-18-2006 02:58 PM

So i wanted to make this in to a stencil: http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j73/h-drix/knife.jpg

I dont know what i should cut out to make it in to a knife. Do i cut the inside out or should i cut in between the two lines?

In the end im hoping it will turn in to a "Kill Your Television" picture and the knife going in to a TV.

ratsinthecity403 05-18-2006 04:08 PM

cut the inside out, that shoud work.

And yes, I realize exactly what I'm getting into with my jacket project. I don't plan to finish it too quickly. The image is really bad quality too, I just can't find any good examples.

if u want it to look right ur gona need to make like 2-4 bridges to connect the knife to the outline of it

asdf 05-18-2006 08:56 PM

I had this image in my head all day.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/asdf23/image.jpg

No big concept. I was just thinking about how odd it's going to be that theres's going to be people knowing only of ipods and MP3 players. Vinyl, Tapes, CD's... a thing of the past.

skavid 05-18-2006 10:00 PM

My god, I wish I could do anything that involved art as well as this guy:

AIRIC 05-18-2006 10:01 PM

Wow I know that is amazing. I saw that a few months ago.

Anarcho Poser 05-18-2006 10:01 PM

Yeah, that dude's pretty sick.

iam2000pounds 05-19-2006 12:16 AM

That's crazy.

nitzguy 05-19-2006 10:48 AM

jesus!~

coheneran 05-19-2006 10:52 AM

I saw a guy do something like that (3D imaging with chalk) in Edinburgh. What they do is draw a distorted image (the one I saw was a strange elongated image of the Earth, as if it was being stretched) then they have a weird lense set up on a tripod, and you look at the drawing through the lense and it looks three dimensional. But this guy's pictures are amazing! Some of them look too real to be true.

when you say tht do you mean something like this:

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j73/h-drix/knife2.jpg

only the bridges being a little bit bigger. i drew in the bridges quickly in paint.

Actually, I think that's the same guy. His name is Julian Beever and I know he did an Earth drawing. That must be his secret!

Ah. Is he English? He got pretty mad at me for walking on his drawing. Damn arrogant fool! What did he think was gonna happen when he drew it on a pavement?

yea thats exactly what i meant.cause then it will just fall apart and be 2 different images so then u just go back and paint where the bridges were back in.
