You shut the **** up for a minute.
You saw Incubus? Jealous. I saw them a couple of years ago, and they were amazing. Surprisingly good setlist, and I lovelovelove Ben Kenney after not really digging on him for ages because of that show. Wish they'd have played some more morning view stuff though. Just a Phase would have made my year.
Ben has been growing on me as well. His vocal harmonies are badass and his playing is very clean and consistent - he impressed me live. I really liked the way Dirk played the short bass solo/fill in between the chorus and second verse in "Stellar" and Ben didn't do that, but other than that, stellar preformance.

"Just a Phase" was awesome live. I wish I remembered the setlist, but it was a great combination of Morning View, Make Yourself, and Light Grenades. They played "Megalomaniac," but I don't recall hearing them play anything else from ACLoM, which is good because I didn't like that album all that much.

Call me lame, but I really wish they would have played "Warning," "I Miss You," "Echo," and "Hilikus." Oh well. Watching them come out with the electric sitar was pretty badass.

During "Drive," they had just Brandon and Mike up on stage playing the first couple sections of the song and Mike just busted out this little improv blues solo perfectly in between a couple of chords right before the second chorus. So badass.

During the middle of the song, a fight broke out over on the stage-left side, and they just stopped playing. I guess they have a running policy that they don't play if people at the show start fighting. The crowd boo'd and the two guys fighting were kicked out of the show. I respect ethics like that. I might like to instill some sort of similar policy with our band.

What kind of idiot starts a fight at an Incubus gig?

I know death metal fans like to start fights about whose repressed homosexual tendencies are stronger but at an Incubus gig I wouldn't expect violent types.

I am sleepy after work, I'm thinking, cup of tea, work on Liam's art a bit, then bed.

Idk. I did expect some moshing, but that wasn't even there. It was kind of cool having the entire crowd sing along with every song they played.

Who is Liam?

FunkMetalBass 08-26-2009 09:51 AM

Brandon Boyd:
"Did they kick the spatulas out yet? Good. I mean I know this is an angry song and all....haha. Let's get back to playing."

Epidemechanical 08-26-2009 09:54 AM

me, silly

FunkMetalBass 08-26-2009 10:10 AM

You're Liam? How many project names do you have? Good God. You're like Mike Patton v2.0

gaslight 08-26-2009 10:11 AM

Haha yeah. It's taking me a while but I'm pretty happy with how it's going, I think you'll dig it or at least dig parts of it. I only have time to chip away at it little by little but it won't take too much longer.

They didn't play Stellar when I saw them (apparently they play a radically different setlist every night), but Ben's solo during Stellar on the Red Rocks DVD is soooo nice. His improv on songs like Just a Phase is awesome too. They played Drive like that when I saw them too - did they do the 'hold the wheel and drive' call and response between Brandon and Ben? I loved that addition! Finishing with Aqueous Transmission was so beautiful. Did get Favourite Things, but apparently they don't play much SCIENCE/FA stuff because Ben just can't slap like Dirk could. Fair play.

I actually really like ACLOTM, and we got a few of those songs - Here In My Room, Sick Sad Little World (Ben played the improv solo in the middle instead of Mike. Wicked awesome) and possibly some others. Light Grenades I wasn't so keen on, but I loved them opening with Quicksand straight into A Kiss To Send Us Off. Some of those Light Grenades songs work a lot better live.

Would love to see them again though. Excellent experience. If they'd played Summer Romance and Hilikus, I'd have loved it. Or anything from FA. But I know they're not the same band that wrote and recorded FA anymore really, so I'm not too concerned about that :)

They didn't play ANYTHING from S.C.I.E.N.C.E., which surprised me. I figured that, at the very least, "A Certain Shade of Green" would have been on their setlist.

They did that call & response bit during "Drive" as well, and it's fantastic. I can't believe how great their mic control is live - something I don't see from a lot of bands.

BenJammin 08-26-2009 12:09 PM

Light Grenades blew, except for, like, 2 songs.

fatbandit 08-26-2009 12:11 PM

Heard any of ben's solo stuff? Go on youtube and find his live version of Eulogy to see how awesome he is :)

Nah, I don't think they do A Certain Shade of Green because Ben sucks at it, basically. I'd like to hear them play Vitamin, or Redefine. Hm.

I love how they aren't afraid to **** with their songs though.

What I didn't like about ACLotM was the fact that it felt like old Incubus, but with Ben's basslines. On Light Grenades, it definitely felt like Ben took a much more active approach to writing with the band. The songs didn't feel as complex, but they just felt better overall. I dunno. To each his own.

Lyrically, LG was just phenomenal, but then again, Brandon Boyd is an extremely talented vocalist/lyricist, so I didn't expect anything less.

Yes. That's how I got into Ben was when I came across his solo stuff.

They play both those songs on the Red Rocks DVD.

It's true. Live they add in extended breakdowns and had a wicked freestyle Latin (bossa nova, I do believe is the technical style) jam randomly. It was swizzle.

FunkMetalBass 08-26-2009 01:16 PM

You should check out Ben Lesser's solo stuff. Blows Ben Kenney's out of the water.

;)

Wrong crowd, yo.

Hardcore kids from Portland on the other hand...holy ****.

I have never seen a fight break out at a DM show. One of the times I saw Black Dahlia Murder (not hardcore) years ago, who played with First Blood and Hatebreed, there were 3520746540321031 fights during First Blood (first band to play) and Hatebreed (last band to play).

Kids are so angry these days.

Stupid subletters broke my toilet. And sink. On the plus side, I'm finally in my apartment.

Hey Ben, didn't you promise to be in Montreal right now? where are you?

Cheers man

Efrim 08-26-2009 06:22 PM

My subletters are a bunch of weirdos. One offered me unfettered access to his food and beer though. Then he removed my jury-rigged quick fix on the toilet to keep it from running, and started talking to himself in the kitchen.

Sablate McNuff 08-26-2009 08:07 PM

Were you at least charging your subletters extra fon top of rent and utilities?
