Apparently i cant get a sound clip.
Heya. I'm looking for an all-around china, medium sustain and fairly trashy but not excessively so, but nonetheless I want it to definitely sound like a china if you get what I mean.
Current other cymbals: 13 a custom mastersound hats 16 hh med thin crash 17 a custom projection crash 20 k custom dry ride I was considering maybe a Zildjian A china (high or low), or oriental classic china, in something like 16 - 19" size. Any ideas?

18" China boy Low. It's a wonderful china and it's awesome for riding.
Any thoughts on the 19" Wuhan china. I've found one for £45 that I can pick up locally, so I can also go try it out :) But any thoughts/comments about it and its suitability? |

Wuhan = China-ness. You may already be aware, but the 19" Paragon China was modelled on Peart's Wuhan. If you like the sound of that, chances are you'll like Wuhan. And you get to try it out anyway. |
Reccomend me a bell. 6-10", darkish and musical.

Ta!
Not a problem.
Reccomend me a bell. 6-10", darkish and musical.
Doesn't the Stagg Dark Metal Bell or whatever it's called sound like that? If it doesn't, the name is misleading. |

thx for the link ollie rep+
Ok sorry. I play blues with my band, and I was looking at the K/Z Dyno beat Zildjian 14" hihats. What do these sound like for blues? I bought the Dyno Beats cheap from a kid, but I want to get one 14" Zildjian K hihat. Will this combo work for blues, and some funk? :chug: |

Personally, at least for the moment, I seem to be favouring darker sounding cymbals, so I'd be thinking K's, K Customs, HH, HHX, Bosphorus, Istanbul, or Dream Bliss. I didn't mention Paiste because, excellent though they are, they're more expensive. If that weren't a problem, I'd consider Dark Energy, Traditional or even the new Twenty range. And I didn't mention Meinl because I didn't think of them until I thought of Paiste. Obviously, that's just me. It also depends on the gig I suppose. More electrified Blues-Rock (a la Gary Moore) may call for a more cutting sound. Basically, I've probably been no damn good use at all. Maybe I've given you some ideas. Oh, and chances are you couldn't go far wrong with some New Beats. You could even try and score some Hollow Logo ones from eBay. |
The K/z hats should work well for blues. I would also look into some of the following for rides:
Zildjian - K, A, lines, perhaps the A medium ride, K normal ride, but it really depends on the sound you want. Try a K custom normal ride, they are surprisingly versatile (a lot of rock drummers use them even), maybe? From sabian you could look into the HHX rides, or even HH rides. Or AAs. I wouldn't so much advise the AAX or A customs just as they are cleaner sounding but they would also be fine. They also have this nifty little feature which gives you a sample of what some guy at Sabian thinks would be good for various genres including blues and funk, which might be worth a look. http://www.sabian.com/english/cymbals/Genre_Setups.cfm Don't know so much about Paiste and Meinl, signatures might be good but they are really really expensive. Try looking second hand as things are much cheaper that way, and if you ever need/want to sell you should be able to get about the same amount you paid for them provided the condition is good. Above all, I would advise trying out things before you buy more than anything else, as not only is cymbal sound quality subjective but also different cymbals feel different to play, and can be played in different ways. |

Yes it is. But i have one of those. I want more bells. |
Im looking for a china. A BIG one.
I want the china to have a "melting" warm sound to it with not much in-your-face trashyness. Sorry if my description sucks haha. |

Does anyone here own 13" Meinl Classic Medium Hats?
I'm thinking of getting some off ebay as aux hats but any soundclips or a description would be great. |
Before anyone says, meinlcymbals.de is down for some reason.

I noticed that yesterday :-/ It was dead annoying. |
I've not tried the hats, but I used to have (still have somewhere actually) a meinl classics ping ride... If they are at all similar they will be fairly to very bright, high-pitched, if a little quiet compared to pro cymbals, pretty good, esp. as an additional "toy" as it were and are pretty good value for what you get.
|
Thanks Damo. Im gonna try one out then.
|
Try the 19" K too.
|
I want to start investigating what hi hats I'd like to upgrade to sometime in the future.
My current cymbal set up is as follows: 8" Sabian B8 splash (stacked) 12" HHX splash 12" Wuhan china 14" ZXT Rock hi hats 16" Paiste Innovations china 18" Paiste Sig Fast crash 18" K Medium - Thin Dark crash 21" HHX Groove Ride Obviously looking to replace the hats. I like dark cymbals, and I'm looking versatile hats, not too tight and crisp but also not too washy either. I'd like a good set of hats that'd blend well with the rest of my set up but I don't know where to start looking. |
Mike - Try looking at some Zildjian K hats, probably 14" ones; there are lots of variations but I would start with the regular ones, they are lovely cymbals. Another possibility is HH and HHX by Sabian. The hhx would probably be slightly more projecting, but i've not tried them and am going mostly by their marketing hype on those. HH are nice hats (i've tried the 13") but not really my thing so much - try the 14" probably that will be not so "fast" sounding which is what I assume you mean, and a bit washier with a fuller sound.
A good place to start would be the sabain and zildjian websites which have sound clips of their cymbals, but bear in mind that they don't sound identical to the real cymbals, and are also recorded in different ways so it is hard to compare accurately the soundclips from sabian and zildjian. Nobody stocks paiste or meinl or anything else near me so I can't help with those at all. http://www.sabian.com/english/webmayhem/soundcheck.cfm http://www.zildjian.com/en-US/products/configurator/default.ad2 paiste and meinl have soundclips too but not all on one page like there, but google them Hope this helps :) |
Bosphorus Traditional Series may be you kind of thing, ditto Istanbul Agop Trad series.

Ks. Maybe the 14" Light Hats?
|
13" Meinl Byzance fast hats?
|
From the sound clips I've listened to so far, I really like the HH Dark Hi-Hats. Any other suggestions in that realm of sound?
