I used to think like Squirrel but I think I'm the only person in my maths group who passed all three papers. It isn't (well, it seems very unlikely) because the class is so bad that they just can't grasp the concepts even after they've made serious attempts to.

Squirrel 08-16-2007 10:18 AM
It's a mix of the 2; if you're smart you can do well whatever the teacher's like so long as you work hard; if the teacher's good and you're smart you can do well without working too hard, but if it doesn't come naturally to you and you have a bad teacher you face a real uphill battle.
True, but i dont think reading a book, asking for help, asking another teacher/sibling/older friend, using the internet etc is beyond anyone.

This for sure.

It's pretty much that at the end of the day, most kids would rather just give up and take the "easy" way out and accept a fail or something.

It comes down to whether you think from today to tomorrow, or whether you think from today to years from now.

If you're the first, you think, meh, if I don't study, what'll happen? I'll fail a test. Doesn't mean much

If you're the latter, you think, fuck, if I wanna' be anyone in this world I've gotta' study.

Pastorius 08-16-2007 10:43 AM

I dunno man, studying doesn't make you a someone really in this world.

Squirrel 08-16-2007 10:46 AM

But not studying makes you a nobody.

Surtr 08-16-2007 10:47 AM
I dunno man, studying doesn't make you a someone really in this world.
I meant that if you study, you'll probably do better, and you'll probably pass the test, you'll probably get a better grade and you'll probably get into a Uni.

Versus

You don't study, you do worse, you fail the test, you get an awful grade and you don't get into Uni.

You're more likely to be a someone from the first option in my opinion.

Pastorius 08-16-2007 11:09 AM

Normally the biggest bigwigs don't have an excellent education, but it's a safer bet to stay in education.

Exactly.

You've got an easier path and technically better odds of leading a more successful life by staying in Education.

Butler and I actually can blame the teacher for crap results. He gave us the wrong coursework, and limited our results to poor.

This is true, the entire year failed ICT because of this.

The_Passenger 08-16-2007 12:10 PM

Christ, the teacher must have been pretty crappy to be incompetent enough to hand out the wrong coursework.

In fact I struggle to understand how they managed to do it.

Dr Hooch 08-16-2007 01:43 PM

wish where does one go for name changes and postcount resets now?

The_Passenger 08-16-2007 01:48 PM

Is there a reason why you keep doing that?

And if you're going to get your postcount reset why not just make a new account, like you have before?

just curious

Dr Hooch 08-16-2007 02:22 PM

no idea, probably form when it was deleted that time

Why do i keep doing that?

Because the people that need to know i've been here for like 4 1/2 years do already and those that don't i don't want to

Dr Hooch 08-16-2007 03:03 PM

That's mah thing, yo.
